What Disney characters do you want to see more of?

Went to Disney the other week and ive noticed something while crusing the world. they only focus on a limited group of characters -the original gang -Mickey, Goofy, Minnie, Donald, and then Grumpy, and all of the princess characters. and its the same ones on shirts, mugs, hats, etc. And i was just curious, which characters would you like to see more of that Disney lacks on...my personal favorites are the characters from The Black Cauldron (Gurgi), Dopey, Pinocchio, Peter Pan. IVe always wanted a shirt or something with just Dopey on it, but im always coming up empty handed. I know the Black Cauldron was a movie Disney really doesnt promote anymore since it was the first PG rated animated film, and Pinocchio and Peter Pan are classics but are rarely seen on gitfs...just wondering if anyone else felt the same about bringing out more characters

Live-action characters

I'd like to see some live-action characters--Mary Poppins & Bert, Swiss Family Robinson, Bedknobs & Broomsticks. Would it really be that hard?

On the animated characters, I'd like to see Alice, the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, & the Cheshire Cat; Merlin from Sowrd in the Stone; the Pooh characters (in the parks, not just at character meals); and the Beast from Beauty & the Beast.

I'd like to see more variety with the character meals. I think there are too many Mickey and the gang character meals. A Peter Pan character meal would be great.

Of course more villans, seems like there stuck in a rut with the same ones; Cruella, Snow Queen, Maleficent, Frollo, Hook, and Jafar. Where is Mr Oogie Boogie, or the villan from Mulan, etc...?
I also would like to see more Robin Hood respect in the parks. Seems like the most successful Disney film of the 70's should get more park time other than the rather infrequant character appearences.
As far as characters to meet and greet the Three little pigs, Donalds nephews, and more rare characters in general should appear.
We have been to the parks pretty regularly over the past few years and while Disney has loads of characters out they seem to be the same ones over and over.

I agree totaly with this. I would suggest a classic Disney movie meal, where characters like Dumbo, Thumper, or from the Rescuers, Pinochio, Jungle Book, and of course Robin Hood could come out in combinations. This would also give Disney a chance to give characters who have dissapeared from the parks a chance to come back. Like characters from the more obscure Disney flicks. They could throw in Steanmboat Willie Mickey with four of the afore-mentioned just for people who have to have that Big Five fix.

Starting September 30th, Mary Poppins and Bert will be doing sets in Town Square right in the front of the Magic Kingdom. So, you'll be able to find them there. Alice and the Mad Hatter do sets every morning near the Teacups along with the Tweedles. The Beast can be found in France with Belle in Epcot. Pooh Characters can be found in the UK at Epcot or at Pooh's Playground.

Plus, you need to remember who you're marketing to. Kids and families who are experiencing their first time in the Magic Kingdom don't want to see Merlin or any rare characters because chances are they don't know who they are. They want to see Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Goofy, etc. Hence the reason why the Princesses and the Fab-5 are so popular everywhere.

Within the past 2 weeks I have seen Mary Poppins on the Carousel, Alice and the Mad Hatter riding the teacups and hanging around the International gateway at Epcot, taken pictures with Belle and Beast, Friar Tuck, Remy, and Stromboli, who I saw a young kid correct their parents in both naming the character and saying which movie he was from. Obviously, there are rare characters and yes even young children know who the characters are. Also, Merlin used to be used in the park for the Sword in the Stone ceremony, which I believe would still make for a great magical moment if Disney ever brought that small show back.

I totaly agree but how many kids know Fowlfellow, Gideon, Brer Bear, or even Gaphetto etc.... the list goes on? Yet these characters are always there. I am not saying get rid of popular characters. I would just love to see the less popular ones rotated in and out with characters that have long since dissapeared. Plus I understand that not all families can make it to the parks often, but there are a ton of people who make Disney a regular stop. I think both groups can be pleased with a little rotation.

Any other character changes coming up soon? Isn't there normally some changes each fall? Who else might be leaving or coming back? Thanks for the great info!

We've seen Mary Poppins in UK at Epcot every year we've gone there since 1997. It will be nice to see her in MK with Bert. My DW's favorite Disney movie. "Spit Spot."

A classic Disney character meal would be awesome. I would love to see Robin Hood - that one is definitely overlooked! A Peter Pan character meal would be great as well. And speaking of Peter Pan is he gaining a little more popularity lately? I was shopping on Disney.com and came across Peter Pan PJs for boys. I don't think I've noticed much Peter Pan stuff lately for boys!?!

I think Daisy just gets the shaft! As I posted before she is my son's(2) favorite and she is nowhere to be found... We saw her one time in front of the hat at Disney Studios and the lady told us the line was closed and to come back, but DAisy never came back to taht spot, and we came back every time that was listed on the times sheet.... Mickey gets Minnie so Donald should have Daisy with him, or maybe she has another duck on the side somewhere!!! The professor perhaps?

Hmmm...
From a marketing perspective - it would be more advantageous to include more characters, other than the fab five. Those guys are already money-makers; so to broaden the awareness of some other movies/characters would be fiscally beneficial.

They still have the Sword in the Stone show at DL and it's quite popular. Children know who Merlin is whether they're familiar with the Disney film or not. There's no reason he couldn't be brought back to WDW.

Personally, as someone who grew up in Florida during the Seventies, I wish they'd bring back the Florida Orange Bird. There's OB merchandise in Tokyo, but he really needs to be brought home. Hey, I can dream, can't I? :animwink:
