What are your feelings on WDW's Space Mountain

As I have stated many times before gut SM and put in a roller coaster that would put RnRC to shame. SM was a great coaster when it was built in the 70’s now it is rough and not very thrilling. Not to mention that there is a ton of wasted space in that building.

I am jealous of Disneyland Paris' Space Mountain 2. WDW's is the original and deserves some respect. Disneyland Paris is only 13 years old, yet their Space Mountain has already been upgraded. DLP's original was even an improvement over WDW's.

*I find Space Mountain enjoyable
*Space Mountain has a good, well done design
*Space Mountain should be made more thrilling
*Space Mountain is a classic
*WDW should build more attractions like Space Mountain

*Space Mountain is enjoyable for the typical familiy (2 adults, 2 kids)
*Rides like Space Mountain attract more guests to WDW than attractions like COP------(Unfortunate, but true!)

im torn. i really have always enjoyed the single line of riders in the wdw version. to me it makes it more thrilling to have open space on both sides rather than one side only.

i would be in favor of a major overhaul rehab only if they could keep the single file riding position. i guess this would eliminate any loops. i really dont think they are neccesary.

I voted for most of the positive things, but I think the most important thing to note that I voted on is:

Space Mountain should get a IaSW-type rehab (replaced with copy of existing attraction)

Much like the refurbishment in DL, I am all for a modernization of the ride. Here's my justification:

• The track is loud and shakey - it creaks a lot and sounds like a wooden coaster that's about to fall down
• Some of the effects are becoming outdated. While they ultimately are timeless, we do have the technology now to advance them.
• Likewise, we have the technology to create more ambient sounds and better quality sounds.
• The chain-lift scene is straight out of the 70's. All you see is ome tacky lights and manakins (sp?) while you're riding up. Some sweet animatronics and build-up lighting could be put in.
• Whatever else they can come up with - they are the imagineers, not me!

So I'm all for a modernization of the ride, but without any sacrifice of the novelty.

I think the theme/scenery needs upgrading before the actual coaster does... the "hi-tech" theme isn't as high tech today as it used to be... that would be my only wish to improve the ride.

I do like the fact that DLP's goes upside down, but so do a lot of coasters.

I dislike Space Mountain as it stands because it's a rickety old roller coaster that if you saw it at a state fair (which is really the only place you will find mouse coasters these days) I wouldn't want to ride it.

It just doesn't feel worthy of the name "Space Mountain" these days. Personally, I just find the ride too rough - and not in a fun, thrilling way, but in a "ouch! my back hurts from all the rickety vibrations" sort of way.

Something needs to be done, that's clear. Or I guess we could just turn the thing into a museum of what a 1970's coaster was like, LOL.

I agree. Sure I like what is currently there, but we have the worst Space Mountain on the entire planet right now and WDW deserves better. Of course I don't know if most people can handle a super thrilling attraction in a "kiddie park" :zipit:

I enjoy SM but would love it if they updated it to say, more like Paris. Paris' SM reminds me of RnRC. A much more exciting ride in my opinion. But then again, I love the "classic" feel of the current WDW SM. So, whatever happens or whatever they do or don't do to it, I would be happy.

If you're jealous now, just wait two more months until Disneyland's new Space Mountain opens. Disneyland's Space Mountain has been closed for just over two years now, and the rumors slipping out of Disneyland now are saying the new ride is going to be totally stunning.

The WDW Space Mountain really needs help. It's stuck in the 70's, and not in a good way. And now even the early 90's overlay in the queue with the TV's is looking dated and corny. The ride is rough, the effects are aging badly, it's barely dark in the dome, and the whole thing needs to be brought into the 21st century. I do like the Matterhorn style rocket cars though. But why don't they have onboard music like Paris and Anaheim?

In the words of my usually gracious Mother (a native Southern Californian who grew up at Disneyland) during her first ever trip to WDW in 1999, as she stepped off Space Mountain... "Well, that one kind of stinks!".

I must first admit taht I have a sentimental attraction to this ride, it was my 1st coaster. However, I do think it needs an update, but I do not think it needs to have loops. I like the general concept and think it should remain the same (dark coaster with hairpin turns and unexpected drops), but they could do more to make it more exciting (note not thrilling) perhaps using props, lights and sounds to create an illusion that you are going faster and that you are flying and definitely a more effective "launch". I just think it should still be something that kids can experience as their 1st roller coaster too. Hope this sentiment makes sense.

Sorry Lee, but I have to disagree with you on this one. SM is the first of its kind, and should not bbe removed. Although I do think it would be cool to add on to the existing building and put in Mission 2, but that would be to expensive and crowds would be horrible in Tomorrowland.

I really enjoy Space Mountain...but, everything needs to be updated at some point. As it is, it's a great ride...and I've got no complaints.
