Hey don't take it the wrong way, I was just replying to the original post on how we travel and you made a big deal about virgin! I've flown in all classes and don't feel embarrassed that I now choose to fly not in economy, it's all part of the holiday to me. I didn't mean for you to get your hackles up, I was just giving another view point.
No worries,my hackles are never up,( unless someone says English pavilion at Epcot ) Hey am only jealous, unless I win the lotto I'll be in the back singing the Mickey mouse march. If anyone here on this site can get me a better deal with Virgin than TC or Thomsons flying from the UK,then I'll be as mad as the hatter.;)

One of the benefits of virgin is that we get the frequent virgin 10% discount which is also off the park tickets. I know I'm lining mr Bransons pockets but someone's got to make a buck!

Southwest! The "bags fly for free" always wins out and they have the lowest fair. They are no frills but our flight from Houston is so short it is not a problem. Beats a 22 hour drive any day.

US Airways. We fly out of Charlotte NC, they offer so many scheduling choices and are usually the cheapest. Probably because their hub is located here.

Southwest is the preferred. The price is always lowest or next to the lowest (competes with AirTran for us.) But when you throw in the free bags it always ends up being the best deal. I pack heavy anyway and we always take 1-2 bags down empty for souveneirs so free baggage makes a big difference. My father in law is retired from United, so it pains my wife a bit but given that she doesnt' fly for free anymore and the fact that we are going to WDW she looks past it :) I also find Southwest to be a fun, relaxed atmostphere. They are professional but far from stuffy and we have a good time.

United (used to be Continental before the merger)

Why

1. Newark is a United hub, so there are many flights out of EWR
2. I have lots of frequent flyer miles with United
3. I am a President's Club member, so I have access to the lounge. I can deal with small seats on the plane. It's the waiting in the airport that gets to me.
4. Again, with Presidents Club I get free checked luggage, priority check in, and if available, the priority lane through TSA
5. United flies out of terminal C in Newark - much better than termals A and B

Delta - We use the Delta Amex and the Northwest Visa before that and always fly using frequent flyer miles. Free baggage check too.

Southwest for sure. I like that I can cancel if I need and I can use the funds within a year from purchase with no charge! Also if the price goes down, I can rebook and use the funds too!

We fly Jet Blue. It's not always the cheapest option -- but if we book long ahead of time, it's pretty close to the cheapest. In exchange, we get the TVs in every seat back, more leg room even in the standard seats, a larger-dimension carryon bag allowance than some airlines offer, and if we want to check a bag, the first checked bag for each person is free.
Do you find JetBlue to be cheapest when they have just released their schedule? I remember finding really good deals with Southwest years ago when there was a fresh set of dates, but now I have to wait for the "sweet spot" 6-8 weeks out.

Yes -- the way they structure it, once they release the schedule a few months ahead, the first x number of seats sell at the lowest price, the next x at a higher price, etc., through about 4 increases. We booked as soon as our flights were released -- it would cost us at least 150% of that price if we bought the same tickets today.

We live half way between Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Pitt is always cheaper than Clev by quite a bit. Air Tran is our choice. Always had no hassle trips and yes, we use a carry on and a large personal (tote) item and only check in one bag. Up until this trip, Air Tran has always offered a direct flight which landed us in Orl at 10:30am and a return direct flight that left at 7:30 pm. This year, we get in and leave at about the same times but we have a connection to make. Air Tran is always (at least our experiences) on time or early. Two years ago, Allegiant Air had direct flights from Youngstown Oh to Orl International and we tried them. Plane was old, no frills and poor flight times. They no longer fly to Orl International, they go to Sanford now.

AirTran, we fly direct out of Milwaukee, drive from Madison the night before and get free parking at the hotel for the week while we are gone. It has become a tradition now.
