What a bus driver told me....

Like I have said before, I think the Disney transportation CM meet tri-annually in a secret location to decide what outlandish rumors they will spread to guests.

It's not just the bus drivers, we all go to the meetings.

My favorite part is when we draw fake concept art. After the meeting, it's handed out and everyone has the job of either scanning it and emailing it to someone, or leaving it conspicuously on a desk somewhere.

I think bus drivers get an unfairly bad rap around here any more. They are out there en masse getting people to and from their destinations and a lot of times they are sharing good information that people enjoy.

Invero, you deserved better.

Yeah, some of the stuff doesn't hold up but who else gets hammered around here like the bus drivers?

We had possibly the greatest bus driver on the ME back to the airport on Saturday. It was actually a Mears bus, so it didn't have the ME video. The driver kept everyone entertained with jokes and stories for the ride. I'm kicking myself for not remembering his name, as he deserves some major props. It's employees like that that make Disney what it's supposed to be, and he isn't even technically a Disney employee.

I think his name was John. Sounds like the guy we had on our trip back to the airport. Although, he was on an ME bus, but he wasn't driving. He was sort of MCing the trip. He was very entertaining and it made the saddest part of our stay better.

I don't really think the employees have a clue about what is really in the works at WDW.
Some of them do... just usually not the bus drivers.

To be fair, Disney doesn't share anything "in the works" with the cast that they don't want the public to know already. Understandably.

I don't think the Villains Park is happening. They've got to build NextGen portals!

As for the Marvel thing..when Disney bought Marvel, that rumor was often floated about and I believe it is false. Disney has looked at the possibility of adding Marvel characters to other theme parks but they are very limited as to what they can do in Florida.

I remember one time coming back from a park back in 2001, the bus driver was named John. He was awesome. I'll never forget what he said when a baby was crying nonstop. And he said, "Give that kid some meat!". I laughed so hard. And now everytime I hear a baby cry, I say that. No out loud. But, I'll never forget that. He also had some good tips too. No made up rumors or anything like that.

The same stories tend to come around year after year, which makes me suspect it could be one, or just a handful of the drivers.

Please don't ruin it for me.

I am also one of the folks who likes to imagine the bus drivers have a quarterly meeting in a dramatically lit conference room in TDO and decide which outlandish tales they will tell people. It's almost comforting to think that's how they work.

I stopped using Disney transportation years ago by renting a car, or at least the buses as the monorails and Bay Lake ferry is generally a good time. But nothing can beat the ridiculously unscripted and laughably untrue things I was told by a Backstage Magic plaid-clad tour guide about a decade ago. The bus drivers got nothing on a few select tour guides.

In all seriousness though, you do kinda wonder why management doesn't crack down on the bus drivers. It's widely accepted that at least some of them are regularly spouting outlandish rumors and untrue statements to their paying customers. It would seem a little pow-wow is needed with this CM group to reel them in and break the news they've got an fairly bad reputation for that behavior.

Unfair as far as their info goes or overall job performance ? I've never read a post bashing job performance. Nobody's saying they do a bad job, just getting a laugh at some of the info they pass along/make up. I for one appreciate their work (all cm's actually) and feel bad for them on those late nights when a platform of people are screaming wanting to know where their bus is.

As for the topic at hand, I can just see them sitting around on break or at lunch and saying "get a load of what I told one busload....."

Agreed. I don't think anyone has bashed them for doing their job. Their job is to drive a bus safely around a big resort property. They all do that just fine.

Their job is not to "entertain" the passengers with made up stories and wild silly rumors they heard from a fellow bus driver in the break room. For that, they deserve some skeptical attention.

In all reality, that is all that Disney is doing as well. Re-themed Barnstormer, moved Dumbo (but did double capacity), added 1 new ride (LM) and food places and Belles Meet n Greet. The closing of Snow White Dark Ride will cancel the new Mine Car Ride, net (although the Mine Car Ride hopefully will be better).

Looking forward to it when it all opens!!:sohappy:

I always have to read a post with that subject line! It's like having a direct line to the head of Imagineering!

I heard about this park idea a long time ago like 8 years ago and thought it was just a random thing for a cast member who knew nothing to say. But now that this has come up again, then I guess it's still in the works? Ok then....?!

Well, I personally think that circus-themed land it was a mistake to begin with. And the 7 dwarves mine train will definately be better as far as I can tell! A new meet and greet is better than a dark ride that pauses every 10 seconds

Thats still what it is: something for the cast members who don't know anything to say.

I mean, anyone with even the slightest understanding of the current workings behind WDW would know that a 5th gate is entirely out of the question at this point.

If the bus drivers read these boards they would know how little credibility they have. Oh well, I bet he gets a big reaction from guests who aren't in the know.

I think this board's credibility is about the same as Disney bus drivers in some of the far fetched, unsubstantiated things you read here. This place is like the National Enquirer.
