Finally, after 5 months, we're telling the kids today! We leave in exactly one week. I've got a basic idea of how we're going to tell them, but I thought maybe some of you would have some fun ideas. We have 3 boys (15, 13 & 9). My DH is so happy that I can share the details with the kids and leave him alone. He's been quite a sport.

Almost two years without the Mouse! I can't wait :sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:

wow! i realize we're complete strangers, but I'm so excited for you!!! what an awesome moment to share with your kids!

we're going in October and we have it on the countdown...my 6 year old son wants to look on this website all the time to see where the countdown is! :animwink:

How exciting for you & your family!! There are a lot of really great ideas posted here. You'll have to let us know what you ended up doing to let them know about WDW and how they reacted. Have fun!!

I always wanted my parents to do this to me, they were actually going to do this when we go in September, but they couldn't figure out a way for me to get 10 days off of work w/o me being suspicious.

My wife and I did almost the same, but we waited till the morning of the trip to tell them. I got it on video and at the airport parking lot at 4:30 in the morning. It was the most hysterical thing you ever saw, we had to tell them 4 times before they got the idea. Good luck, and for a good memory get it on video.

I can't wait to read what you did & their reaction(s)!!! :)

We surprised my girls (twins) at Christmas ... they are 14, and have been begging to GO BACK to Disney (since the moment they left, in 1997!).

We put Disney Dollars, Tour Books, & a Stuffed Piglet & Tigger in a Huge Wrapped Box, with an Envelope (for each of them) on Top. We told them to READ OUT LOUD, and noted who should read first. One's note said "We know you've waited a long time for this ... " the other said "... just hang on for 100 More Days!" They were shaking like leaves, totally confused, and bursting with excitement. When they opened the box, I had a Note (on top of the goodies) that said "WE'RE GOING TO DISNEYWORLD!!!" They were ecstatic, to say the least! :)

HAVE FUN TELLING THEM!!!!!

WE LEAVE FOR DISNEY IN 12 MORE DAYS!!!!!! :sohappy:
I've had that done to me & I can't wait to hear your kids reactions. have fun and post about your trip soon!!

"One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. "Oh, no," I said, "Disneyland burned down." He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late."

Last year we went to WDW in October. We didn't want to tell our 2 girls (8 and 4) because one of them is always sick when we go on holiday - I think it must be excitement! Anyway, we planned a day out in a local place and then at breakfast said, 'Oh I don't feel like going to folly farm, let's go to Disneyworld' The only problem was, they didn't believe us - we had to tell them about 5 times!

Have a camera handy - the look on their faces was amazing!

The hardest thing was trying to pack the cases without them knowing! I would pack in the day when they were in school, and then hide the cases and bags.

I think this was really a ploy to expose all our ideas. I believe the thread maker works for Universal and our ideas will be shown in there next commercial.

   That's too funny!!!! You never know who could be lurking about! I just saw one of those Disney bashing commercials this morning.

I am also very curious how they told the kids. The OP's kids are very lucky.

Sorry so late. Yes, we told them! First, let me explain that this trip was actually my 40th bday present from my DH. He told me in November that he wanted to do this trip, but was smart enough to let me plan it. Soooo, we decided to tell the kids on my bday (yesterday). We wrapped up a big box with lots of stuff in it. On the top were Disney things for me (t shirts, snoglobes, books, etc). At this point, they didn't suspect a thing. The next layer was things for the kids (t shirts & hats). Now they're thinking, why are we getting presents on mom's bday. The next layer was things sent with our paperwork (luggage tags, autograph book, water bottle holder). The two older ones had figured it out but didn't let on. Next came the brochures and tickets. Finally, Patrick (9) said "Are we going to WDW?" Yessssss! We are going to WDW! "I can't wait until summer!" You don't have to, we're going next week! He started jumping up and down and the look on his face was priceless! We came home and turned on the Tivo and watched all the shows on the travel channel that I've been recording these last few weeks. We're so excited! Thanks for the tips and all of the interest. There's nothing better than a great suprise!
