Trip Report We're going to Disney and this old lady is gonna party!

Hi all, I have the unexpected joy of being able to write (my second ever), (pre)trip report because I'm getting old!

I wrote my first report from our August trip when we got to preview GE as AP before it opened to the public. I thought it would be the only report I got to write till November of 2020 when my husband wants to go back and have a big family trip with all in attendance.

Well I woke up this morning and realized 🤔 I will be 60 in 2 weeks and had no plans for the big day!
So after only about 5 minutes of badgering, my husband agreed a quick, down and dirty trip to celebrate my birthday was in order!

Who will be going?
Just the 3 of us from August-(yes it was Halloween in August).
Youngest kid Seth, myself Cindy and husband Gary.
IMG_4085.JPG

Not attending my birthday blowout is my daughter Aleisha and new son-in-law Julio, as they just got back from honeymooning in France 3 days ago!
Sorry blurry pic of them in their wedding finery, and what I call my (grandthing) Queen Hera!
IMG_5697.PNG

When-we will be there Nov 20-Nov 22 (quick blitz for sure)! But, still very excited!

What I have so far is our room, we will be staying at the Boulder Ridge Villas, as that was the only thing available at late notice for us to use our DVC points. But, I was super excited today when initially I looked, I could only find a room for each night at 2 different resorts, and then an hour later, 2 consecutive nights opened up. We love Wilderness Lodge so that worked out great!

More details to come, hopefully, with some dining and FP bookings, wish me luck!

Your reactions and descriptions of your son’s attitude made me laugh. I’m frequently saying to my DD “after 14 years you still don’t realize that your mamma never changes a no to a yes?” Or to take the possible win with a maybe because if she continues to bug me about it it’ll turn into a definite no...
I have found that reaching really deep down and scraping up a little humor, is the only thing that keeps him breathing and me not getting put in jail. When he was maybe 9 or 10 he threatened to call social services on me. I gave him their phone number and explained that the way it works is they will take him away and I get to stay here. (No, he didn't make that call because he is actually very intelligent)!

I have a friend who unlike you doesn't understand why none of her kids listen to her. Every time they want to do something she says no, or if they are misbehaving she threatens to do something, and then about 10 sec later gives in and doesn't follow through!
I have tried to explain the living h--l she will be in when they are teens if she doesn't get a little tougher..... 😲

So true. I’m the mother who walked went into the local wading pool in work clothes to pick up my wet child because I had given her a “if you do this again we’re going home warning”. My neighbors (who had brought her there with their child) were in shock/awe because they were incapable of following through with any limit they set for their child.

A few months ago I was at the bus stop and there was a mother with two kids and she said to her son that if he did not stop bothering his sister she was bringing him home (he was around 4 and the sister a year or so older). This was said multiple times. Before the bus arrived. And on the bus. Even at 4 this little boy knew they were not going home...

I thought of you (and the child rearing exchange) this morning - shortly after I replied I had to leave and drop my car off to get the winter tires put on and the annual tune up service. I always leave it for the day and take a tram back into town. While on the tram I realize that I am hearing a kid (3-4 years old) who’s father has told him to stop bothering the nice man. The kid is in classic limit pushing stage and hats off to poor dad preventing the kid from hitting other passengers in a rush-hour crowded tram all the while keeping his own balance, his kid’s arms retrained, the younger sibling’s stroller from not moving and not waivering from the message that the behavior was not acceptable. It made me realize a hormonal teenage girl is a breeze 😉

As we headed out of EPCOT we had a little problem finding the ride share area but a very nice security guard overheard us and was heading in the same direction and walked us out.
Our Uber driver was there within one minute. I know there are people who don't want to talk to their drivers but this guy probably said one and a half words the entire trip. A little uncomfortable I think.

Anyway, we got dropped off right at the entrance of AK and as we ended up with a little extra time before we had to meet our tour group, we stopped for a few photos on our way in. The pace of all of this worked well for Gary. He didn't have any joint problems/complaints all day. I have noticed lately when I set the commando pace is when he starts to have more leg and foot pain. (I know, duh).

Adults being silly with magic shot. We clearly didn't understand the photographers directions!

Young adult refusing to cooperate with AP entrance picture, that will teach him when he sees this! 🤣

In the open area in front of the tree of life were these fun and amazing creatures. I was so glad we got to see them. I had watched a video on line regarding their creation and was hoping they would be out and about.

I try to be fairly cognizant of my environment, but was clearly off my game here. I didn't see this bad boy till my husband said "Cin look here"! I turned and this fun whatever it was, was right there interacting with my husband.
IMG_0281.JPG

And then a second large animal showed up and I asked if I could get a photo and both of the puppeteers said yes. But I didn't realize there were people approaching on the other side and were probably there before me. I apologized profusely and the mom was super nice and didn't call me a jerk for jumping in front of them. (I dislike very much when people jump in front of me)!
IMG_E0522.JPG

Speaking of rude reminded me of something I forgot to put in my report that occurred on our first night.
I'll be judged for this but....
When we were ambling out of the park, when Gary's legs were bothering him, we walked through Adventureland. I don't know if something was letting out or what. But, there were a ton of incredibly rude (actually fairly aggressive) people headed into Adventureland 6:15-6:30? It was dark and they were walking 8-10 people wide and were not giving any space for those of us heading out. After maybe 3 or 4 times of me actually getting pushed backward as someone hit my left shoulder I just dug in.
I suppose I should have moved over or just stopped and let the masses rudely push past, but I stiffened up my left arm and I think a few people were surprised that my 5'1" (on a good day) self had had enough. My son is nicer than I am and told me to knock it off. I did, eventually.

Anyway, back to AK. After our encounter with the friendly magical beasts we headed back to our meeting place for our tour.

Good for him, and I had a similar thing occur when we left Disney on the DME that I will relate later in the TR.

Now for our It's All About Me, It's My Birthday, Nights of Adventure VIP Tour!
They send you an email with the tour information that gives you instructions to meet your guides on a trail headed toward the back of the Tree of Life. We eventually found it. It is right past the Starbucks.
We checked in and were given a lanyard that had a VIP tag on it. It actually served a purpose, because when we went on the rides they use fp access and count the number of tag wearing people coming through. I think there were about 15 people on the tour.
IMG_0296.JPG

We had 15 minutes so they recommended a bathroom stop and we decided while we were running there to grab a small snack. Included with the tour is a "heavy snack", we weren't sure what that meant so we grabbed some fruit at the Starbucks before we headed off.
We found out when we came back that we would be eating at the Satu'li Canteen. Still wasn't sure how a heavy snack fit in that, but they asked for allergies and we told them Gary is allergic to shrimp. (We love Satu'li, so were very excited).

The first stop was everyone's favorite place to see animals, Kilimanjaro Safari! I did really really badly with taking pictures of all of the aspects of the tour/of the things we did. But for some reason took about 80 pictures on the safari. I promise only a few will be put on here.

Our tour guide was excellent! Very informative, so all of these animals that I have no clue what they are isn't their fault!

And a fun game we can play is, what is the blurry animal in the picture that I wouldn't know even if it wasn't blurry?!
IMG_0299.JPG

Isn't he cute!!!!!
IMG_0303.JPG

Not so cute.
IMG_0435.JPG

No clue, and honest to Pete, I thought I paid attention.

Even I know what these beauties are!

Doesn't that just remind you of the Jungle Book song Elephant March?!

Next up our tour continues as we head to Pandora!

After our safari, they walked us back through the market place area, turned right and headed past Festival of the Lion King.
We had a bathroom break there and headed towards Pandora. The first ride they took us to was Na'vi River.

This is another time where child rearing comes into play. In our tour there was a mom and her son, I believe just turned 7. While we waited to start she let him in the dirt off of the trail, climb on the rocks, swing on the fences, etc. Little annoying.
But, as you enter Na'vi River there is a bridge (which surprisingly for Disney) does not have a railing. The mom lets this kid climb on the wet slippery rocks, and if he slips, will fall a short distance into shallow water, but there are rocks in the water. I was one second from saying something and my husband reminded me, he's not our kid. The VIP gave me a "what do I do" look. Just then the line moved forward and we were off of the bridge.
Later the VIP guide, walked beside me and we started talking about the incident. She told me she didn't know what to do, because if she said something the parent could turn her in "for being rude" but she was aware if he was injured she would also be reprimanded. I agreed not a good position to be in.
We went on a VIP tour in Disneyland a few years ago and I loved our guide. She was quite experienced and as we went through the parks, if she saw a kid doing something potentially dangerous, climbing, etc., she didn't hesitate to say something.

Anyway, the only picture I got here was of the ceiling, of some incredibly cool lights in the queue.
IMG_0344.JPG

After this we rode Flight of Passage, which is still one of my family's absolute favorite rides.

They then took us into a side/back door of Satu'li Canteen. There we found all of the foods that you normally can order off of their menu laid out on a long board/serving tray on each table that sat 5-6 people. Things happened rather quickly from here and I didn't get any photos. (And I am very annoyed with myself because it was beautifully laid out). But, by the time I thought of a photo, nothing left to see.

Read next paragraph.

Guess who we were seated with? Yep, super mom and the little darling. This was a very sophisticated woman, (you could tell by speech, dress, etc. and she made it a point to tell me they were staying at the Four Seasons ) with incredibly poor manners. The food was laid out family style and Seth had run to the restroom (for 2 seconds), and she didn't wait at all, nor ask "do you mind if we start"? Nope, she grabbed the tongs and began to load up her and her sons plate as if they hadn't eaten for a week, and wouldn't be again. I actually put some food on Seth's plate to ensure he had something in case she didn't slow down. (This is Seth's current favorite restaurant in Disney). Gary had been given a separate bowl due to his shrimp allergy of chicken that he said was excellent.

Aside from the hunger games style dinner, it was excellent food (and of course) plenty provided. The desserts offered were both the Blueberry Cream Cheese Mousse (both Seth and I had that), and Chocolate Cake, that Gary chose.

We finished dinner then headed out of Pandora to make our way to DinoLand. We saw this guy on our way out. Check out the Christmas decorations in the background. Garland of carved animals, Santa, etc.
IMG_0346.JPG

Next stop was to ride Dinosaur. Gary bailed on this. I'm not super excited about this ride, but glad I did it, since I have not been on it
for several years. That is our tour guide to my left. She is looking to the left, because supposedly there is some Easter Egg there to see. She said she has not found it yet. I'm not looking at anything (coward that I am).
IMG_0347 (1).JPG

From there we walked towards Finding Nemo, and they offered another bathroom break. We then continued on to Expedition Everest. Gary once again bailed and Seth and I rode. It had become dark by now, and I found it to be a very different ride in the dark. Seth agreed with me and we both thought it was fun. The family in front of us was also on the tour. The were very friendly. Before the ride the brother was bragging on his bravery, after-not so much! ;)
IMG_0461.JPG

After Everest we walked across the path to Rivers of Light. If we had chosen to stay there was VIP seating with the tour. But, we decided to bail. Gary had never seen the show before (both Seth and I had), but Gary said he was getting a little tired and didn't want to stay. So we slowly made our way out of the park and bought a few trinkets on the way. Gary had seen a popcorn bucket shaped like a drum that he really wanted, and someone told us it was for sale in Asia, so Seth ran and got it for him while Gary and I took our time.
IMG_0629.JPG

IMG_0630.JPG

I found 2 things I really liked. This first is a drink/sippy cup. The lady started to put soda in it, but I asked her to please not do that, I would just take the soda in a paper cup. I am glad I did this, because a friend told me her daughter got one with soda and they still haven't been able to properly wash it. And how about it lights up! I thought it will make a cute decoration.
IMG_0494.JPG

The other item, not even sure how you use it, is supposedly for a hot beverage. The reason I say that, is the handle is towards the back of the mug, not at the side. I have no problem seeing me wearing that cup of hot cocoa!
IMG_0498.JPG

In summary of the VIP tour, we enjoyed it. The guides were awesome, the meal great (ignoring our dining companions), and there were a fair amount of rides. If you break it down to cost per ride and the meal (Disney comes out ahead)! 🤣
We like to try different tours, etc. But, I probably wouldn't do this one again. A few I would spend the money to repeat is the Wild Africa Trek, that was an awesome tour. The Day of Thrills coaster tour was good. But, when we did it, it included lunch at the Brown Derby, I think is has been cheaped (word)?, down to a quick service lunch for more money.

After our shopping, we headed out of the park and I voted for an Uber, but Gary and Seth said lets just take the bus. It's free. I get that from Gary, but Seth?! Maybe, just maybe, a sense of fiscal responsibility creeping in? :joyfull:
Anyway, we went to the bus stop and apparently just missed the WL bus. :( We waited perhaps 20 minutes. At first it was only us and another family. Then the line filled up. This was one of those nights that your faith in humanity is restored. It was a very crowded bus.
We went way to the back, last row. I saw a mother with young children make them all double up and have one of them give their seat to another lady. I saw a young girl, maybe 18 or 20 stand up and offer her seat to an older woman. They were small but heart warming gestures.

We got back to the WL, stopped in the store to grab a snack and that's when I broke down and bought the Mickey pickup truck.
You can see it in the next photo beside Cinderella's Castle. At the beginning of this TR I had a pic of the beginning of building the Lego Disney train station. I've started to put a little scene together with both here. Not quite done yet.

And as I pretty much hate decorating for Christmas, my friend sent me this today to help me out.

Friday November 22-Day 3
Last Day

We got up bright and early to get ready for the day and pack up our gear to take down to the airline check in center.
But first, one last coffee on the balcony watching the sun rise! Ahhhh.....

IMG_0356.JPG

We made it to the airline counter and a very disorganized family was in front of us. They were digging stuff out of their suitcases on the ground (which I have done before), but wouldn't move off to the side. The wife ran down with the stroller and a big dress to stuff in the bag. And then the dad realized he didn't have their flight confirmation number, called his wife and wanted us to wait till she got it for him. Luckily the attendant there asked him to step aside till they could find their documentation. Sheesh!
We got checked in rather painlessly after that and were on our way, a very great distance to a 7:30 am breakfast reservation at...Whispering Canyon Cafe! The plan was to eat breakfast relatively quickly and head over to the MK to try to catch a little of the EMH.

We checked in and they told us to cool our jets in the lobby, they would call us in shortly.
Mr Grumpy Gills, aka Grumpy Gary cooling his jets.
All ready to go with his requisite Steeler hat (Go Steelers!) and pin laden lanyard.
IMG_0359.JPG

My view from our table, pretty cool!
IMG_0362.JPG

We ate pretty quickly and I didn't take a picture, but had some mighty delicious pancakes!
This is MT, probably the coolest waitress ever! She brought me a birthday cupcake and insisted on holding it up for a photo, with the pin that Gary got me of the Wilderness Lodge Gingerbread House. She was our waitress a few years ago and we also loved her then!
IMG_0363.JPG

We loved her and she loved Gary!
IMG_5585.JPEG

Then we were off using one of our favorite transportation systems to get to one of our favorite places in "the world"!
Look @Darstarr, half of a palm tree!
IMG_0370.JPG

Can't wait to see this approach when all of the construction is finally done.

As I stated in my pre-trip report, when we decided to book this impromptu trip there was about 2 weeks to plan everything. At that time there were no FPs for 7DMT but I stalked MDE like a crazy woman and got us a FP for 1pm, with a 3pm flight. (Next to FOP this is my absolute favorite ride).
And remember, it's all about me you know!
Bus is scheduled for 11:40. The bus that makes Gary act like an anxious nut if we cut it too close.
Then I got one at 11:30. I called DME. I begged, can we get on the 12:10 bus? Why, she asks. I say, "please don't judge but I have a 7DMT FP". Silence, then she cracks up and tells me I have to verbally say over the phone if I miss our plane I can't hold them accountable. I say "sure". (And you all know I did not tell Gary any of this). 🤣 I eventually work it down to an 11:10 am FP. I'm thinking I am a genius.

Till that morning, and I start sweating thinking he's going to stab me if we miss our flight. I tried to suggest an Uber to the airport with a horrified reaction from him. And not ride the bus?! And, I tried to cancel the breakfast reservation for a quick service but Seth was pouting about wanting to sit down to eat and see MT. So I finally confess about the change in bus time and they get on board with trying to make EMH.
We were able to hurry up and eat, ride the boat over, zip up Main Street with 10 minutes before EMH were over and get in the 7DMT standby line with a listed 45 min wait.
We even grabbed the yearly required kid growth photo on the wall by the castle.
Seth now.
IMG_0372.JPG

Seth age 3 with his sister. (I think I used this in last report for throwback pic).

Up next, we get to ride 7DMT!

Pet peeve above! I doubt this was the very first time they had ever been to an airport.
