Well, Universal may think WDW announcements are pending...

:D;)

I some respects, I am sure it is. In others, I can even compare the 1993 MK to the 2009 MK and notice the loss of the charm and feeling it had. However, there is a whole new feeling it has now. Whether it's better or not is your perspective.

Sorry to mention age, but the difference in pespective has a lot to do with your age at the time. Plus the MK was so much more unique back then. You used to see things there you saw nowhere else. But these days the Disney-esque magic has spead everywhere. Of course imitated does not quite mean duplicated.

Wait a sec, jt....You said that you first visited in 1975? CoP was around then...What gives?:lookaroun

I remember pre-CoP so maybe 74

I was young so it's a bit cloudy.

I do remember IYHW and Mission to Mars.

Trust me, as bad as Stitch is, it's still better than mars :snore:

Well, true.

But you said you were young back then, so...

You still see things there that you see no where else.:o:D And the feeling, too.

I like posts like this. Shows that we are all here for the same thing: Love of Disney.

I have a few memories of Mars. :D Wasn't my favorite, but then again, what can you actually dislike with a passion in Disney?:D

I've never understood the discussions entailing 'moving' attractions to other parks. Maybe I don't play enough Theme Park Park Tycoon, but in the real world, moving attractions is an expensive prospect that, except for some R&D savings, would be nearly as expensive as building an entirely new attraction. I guess I would rather see a new attraction than a moved attraction. Do you guys really think the gain in moving CoP to EPCOT exceeds opening an entirely new attraction? Keep in mind that the reality of financial constraints prohibit both.

I would use this same rationale to refute those suggestions that MILF needs to be replaced immediately (or other new popular attractions -- see Test Track). Certainly it's not my favorite attraction, and isn't a perfect fit for Tomorrowland, but the cost of replacing it could be put to many many far better uses.

All I'm saying is that I think sometimes a lot of people here are unrealistic with their complaints, expectations, and 'goals'. I certainly want WDW to be the best it can be, but no one can honestly expect an extreme makeover of 90% of the resort. That is a blue sky dream that could never, and will never, have any basis in reality. If you really think that many substantive changes need to be made, perhaps it's time to find another vacation destination...because you will never be satisfied with WDW. Those types of changes will never be made.

No, I just think that it would work better there, it's a fantasy.

And they did do it in 1975....

A makeover of WDW will happen. Not all at once of course, but it will at some point.

There's a new Fantasy Land coming... I've heard Disneyland will be getting a new Tomorrow Land. As time goes by there will be a big make over to each section of Disney.

And when the new blood comes into TDO, which it will, and they'll be wanting to put their own stamp on things, there's no telling how it will change.

I'm saving my response to this until after D23. Then things should make much more sense.

I do agree with your point though about Disney returning to coherent themes. They really lost their way in the late 90's and a lot of damage occured to the theme parks. It will get fixed but it will take at least 10 years.

I am looking forward to all the news out of D23...I'm just wondering how many questions will be raised due to the acquisition of Marvel. Wish I was going to be there.

I remember Mission to Mars as well or am I crazy I'm only 23 when did MTM close?

It closed in '93 I believe, so you'd have been, what, 7? Certainly possible you remember it.
I definitely remember Mission to Mars and seem to have a vague recollection of Flight to the Moon, but that's probably just from hearing my father tell me about it since I would have been 3 years old when Flight to the Moon closed. :) I was born in '72 and went every year from '72 to about '85 before we went overseas (military father), so a lot of those earlier visits bleed together. I clearly remember If You Had Wings and Mission to Mars (both of which I loved), though.
Off-topic, but I seem to remember riding the monorail through the as-yet-unopened EPCOT Center. Did they do this or am I misremembering?

Yea all I remeber is that it was very late we waited a long time and that you got to choose something!

No way, I went on Mars in 1990, I was about 6 and I thought it was a cool attraction. I was kinda confused about what was going on but I remember loving the Mission Control room with Mr.Tom Morrow and the wierd scene with the ducks. While none of those rides were AAA I would rate them as:

Alien Encounter (Best Incarnation)
Mission To Mars
Flight to The Moon
Nothing
Stitch's Great Escape

Summer of '82 the monorail was running between the Transportation & Ticket Center and the Epcot monorail station, where you got off and they did a short presentation. The monorail did not actually go around the loop through Future World, but rather ran back and forth on the same beam from the Epcot station to the TTC. I suppose it is possible on some trips, or as opening day grew closer, or maybe just not on the day I took it, the monorail might have looped through the park, but that wasn't my experience.

I would love to go back in time and see Epcot just as it was about to open but then I would have to live through 1994-2009 again:mad::(

I'd basically agree with this list. I might even put Mission to Mars in the top spot ahead of Alien Encounter if we were comparing the attractions when they were new. By the time it went away Mission to Mars was looking dated, but in the 1970's (as a child) it was a very different matter. The moon landings were still recent history, Star Wars had premiered, and the Space Shuttle was still in the future. Mission to Mars was then a fairly respectable illusion of a trip to Mars.

I don't remember Flight to the Moon, even though I was there, but I was only 3 when we first visited.

I always wondered, If we landed on Mars in real life what would have been the next destination for the ride?

The saddest part is that there actually were proposals to "scale up" the Apollo hardware for a manned journey to Mars. This would have occurred in a time frame while the Magic Kingdom Mission to Mars attraction was still in operation.
