Weird hand gestures

A couple years ago, we visited WDW and, when riding Thunder Mountain, we sat behind a couple high school punks. These kids spent about the whole ride holding up the middle fingers on each hand. We weren't sure if they were flying the bird at the ride as an indication that they thought it sucked, or if it was an indication that they thought the ride was totally awesome. The wife and I are obviously "old" and unhip and totally out of touch with the hand gestures of today's youth. Can someone clarify for this 31 year old geezer what the meaning of this gesture is?

They were just being idiots

Ya, that much was obvious. Nevertheless, there has to be some kind of meaning to that gesture. And we figured it had to either mean that they were "flipping off the ride" because it wasn't cool enough for them, or that they thought the ride was great and they indicated that by that weird hand gesture.

It definitely means they thought the ride was "totally sweet" or "@$%#in' awesome"

*eta* do you know how metal music crowds make the "metal hands?" It's about the same thing IMO

I Googled "metal hands" and this charming guy came up

They probrally thought the the ride had on-ride photo. So they would give the finger to the camera and see if they could pass the cenor. :hammer:

Actually, that thought did cross my mind.

I just have a feeling they were at that age where Disney is NOT cool, at least to their peers, so they were trying very hard to NOT show that they were having a good time!

I think I might have been tempted to spit on the back of their heads and say "its how my generation shows we are enjoying an attraction except for the punks in front of us flipping the bird to everything...."

We get that a lot over at Dueling Dragons. They come off the ride and ask us where do they pick up their pictures and I tell them that we don't have one.

That is absolutely a juvenile thing to do when kids think they can be "cool" and get their on-ride photo taken flipping the bird...what they don't know is the Cast Members operating the on-ride photo sales board are trained to block any of those photos from showing up on the screens.

12-year olds do this all day long on rides at Cedar Point and Great Adventures parks...apparently going on the ride itself is not entertaining enough. Makes you really appreciate spending all that money on their ride tickets if you are one of 47-year old types.

Alright, that answers my question I guess. I figured it had to be one or the other. But at any rate, it seems a pretty crude and juvenille way to express enjoyment of something. :lookaroun
