I hope everything comes together soon. When you get back from your trip, can you report in about how the app behaved while in Orlando?
Just got back, great trip and lots of lasting memories (in spite of the pervasive nickel and diming, but that’s another conversation).
The app performed miserably for both my wife and me for 98% of our stay. Here’s a few highlights:
1) Consistent crashing when opened/ general instability. For the majority of the time we used the app it would crash 2-3 times nearly every single time we would try and open/access it. By the last two days the app began logging me out of my account (this did not happen with my wife’s device) upon attempted opening, every time. Couple these issues with random crashing while using the app and you’ve got the makings of a very frustrating experience that forces you to spend more focus on trying to get the app to simply be operational and detracts from enjoying the parks.
2) Massive load times while trying to navigate through sections of the app. It is not an exaggeration when I say that we both experienced 15-20 seconds of load time (if not a flat out failure) with nearly every attempt to access the various sections (fast pass, photos, wait times map, mobile dining). This issue occurred while on WiFi (at varying speeds) and on our carrier network consistently. In fact the in park WiFi network was mainly too saturated for us to use with any success so I mostly toured on my carrier data network. (ATT, the official wireless provider for WDW lol).
3) Photo pass (memory maker) photos not showing up. We had a few instances of photos not syncing properly depending on whose magic band we used to scan. I have not checked our account through a web browser and I expect that those photos will all be there (I hope). The annoyance here was that we wanted to share some of those with the grandparents back home and obviously could not share photos that weren’t in the app.
4) Mobile dining ordering was mostly a fail for us. We only used this feature 3 times, and 2 out of 3 of those were lost/dropped at the counter service end. Between that and the ridiculous load times between the steps of the ordering screens it would have been quicker for me to stand in line.
If it’s any solace for those worried about ADR’s or fast passes dropping off of the app, we never experienced that. We did experience that before we left, they would float on and off of our app and definitely led to some heartburn going in to the trip.
