weather question for Orlando residents

What is a reliable website for checking the weather. We're coming 10-14 jan to wdw. The yahoo weather for 10-15 day forcast says rain on 11,12 and 13. It's worrying me a bit. I'll have 4 and 5 yrs old kids with me so hope don't end up staying in hotel all day during my trip. Should I even hold on buying the park tickets for now until I'm sure about the weather?? We're gonna be staying at poly though. Thanks

I am not an Orlando resident but I use weatherchannel.com and find it accurate.

I would not let the rain (forcast or actual) stop you from going to the parks. While it does literally put a damper on things, it makes for lighter crowds. It is rare to rain all day.

Hi! We'll be at the Polynesian the same time with a 3 year old. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for good weather right along with you. Thinking positive, Kris:)

Also, do not rely on the FLorida Residents to give you ideas on what type of clothing you will need for what type of weather they are having. My mom lives there, and her blood is so thin that she needs a sweater when it is 80 degrees. Look at the temperatures and make you decision based on that, or ask another person who recently went there from the NORTH what type of clothing they wore for what type of weather. Being in the north, we tend to forget what 60, 70 or 80 feels like in regards to what type of clothing we need.

Weather is very unpredictable in Florida. You can look at three different forecasts and get three different answers. I would highly recommend that if rain is in the forecast pick up a few mini-umbrellas at Wal-Mart or Target before your trip. They cost about $5 each and are about the size of a can of Red Bull so several of them pack away in a stroller quite easily. If there is a shower while every one else is scrambling for the exit you will be high and dry and can enjoy an empty park. When it comes to temperature the numbers you see in Florida aren't necessarily the same as you feel elsewhere due to Florida's high humidity. Increased humidity will make the hot feel hotter and the cold feel colder. I have been in Dallas when it is 100 degrees and been quite comfortable however 90 in central Florida with 85% humidity borders on unbearable so again plan accordingly.

That's toooo funny:lol:
I grew up in Minnesota and know what cold is. Been here for 17 years now.
I see locals with parkas and hoods up in 50 degree weather.

Weather is VERY unpredictable in Florida. I checked before my last trip and it showed rain Thurs, Fri, Sat. I was kind of bummed. Brought my umbrella and poncho's and guess what. NO rain - instead it was sunny and 82 each day. My advice - look at the temp, pack clothes accordingly and pack rain gear for the just in case.

I will be keeping my fingers crossed as well! We can handle any weather that comes our way, but traveling with young children, it would just be better if it didn't rain all day!

 All good ideas but I would not get the umbrellas, specially with kids, and get ponchos for the whole family at the dollar store or somewhere before you leave. the Mickey ponchos are very expensive, which we found out recently!! An umbrella doesnt keep all your clothes dry. also, if you can stay in the parks when it rains, its kinda neat cause a lot of people will leave and you have it to yourself, including the indoor rides!! have a magical trip.:sohappy:

YES on the ponchos ahead of time....TARGET is my source...think they are 89 or 99 cents from COLEMAN and come in red, blue and green. We usually bring enough for each of us to have four for a weeks trip. They are lightweight and about 5 inches by 3 and flat in pack. We use them in case of rain or if cold we use them on Kali River Rapids/Splash Mountain. We usually just pack 4 in our pack each day.....if we do not use them I save for a future trip.:king:

That's an absurd myth. Blood doesn't thin because you live in a warmer climate. There are valid biological reasons why people get acclimated to warmer weather, but it's not because of "thin blood." Check out the straight dope for more specifics.

By the way, I might add that tolerance for temperature and clothing recommendations are entirely personal and have nothing to do with whether you're Floridian or not. Love was born here and will wear shorts in cold whether whereas I've been here over 20 years and will wear jackets in cold weather. It's not like every Florida resident is going to have the same opinion on weather.

Geez, forgive me, it was a just a term that we (people in my family and friends circle) always used as we had moved from the north to Florida. When this took place, I lost my tolerance for cold. Albeit, I have since moved back to the North, and I have once again gotten used to it.

I agree, not all people are alike when it comes to temperaturs and clothing, I was just suggesting to think about that, cuz if someone had asked my mom right now (who lives in Orlando) what to wear tomorrow, she would tell ya to pack a parka. So, I apologize, as I had based my suggestion on personal experience only. Forgive me for giving some personal experiences to try to help people out - gesh!

Just to let you know, it was almost 85 here in Otown today. It's supposed to be hotter tomorrow. It's only going to be 70 next week.

It can be 80 one day and 50 the next. I would check the following news station websites for local weather. Remember, 30% chance of rain doesn't mean much.

wesh.com
local6.com
wftv.com
cfn13.com

If it rains, bring a poncho and dry socks. The parks aren't as crowded when it's raining. We always have a lot more fun when it's cool and raining! Think about it, it's better in cool rain than in the August heat with the crazy storms at 3!
