We won a dream at MGM and other news

My bad! Shame on me!

I was hoping to start a thread where we can keep a running list of dreams granted to WDW people or just some that we've witnessed... I'd like to hear about all the different things... Never caught on though...

I'd love to see a thread like that.

What did I miss?...for the record

RE: Mulch, Sweat and Shears...thanks for getting this right for me, I just couldn't remember what gardening slang they changed Blood into.
RE: Credit...I think I'm ok, but thanks for the warning anyway
When you've lived 16+ years in your own 70K financed house now worth about 300K.
When you've worked the same job 24+ years and earn 65K+ money
When you've financed 9 new cars over your lifetime and can walk into a new car lot at any time and buy a new car with no money down and no increase in car payments
When you already have about half a dozen OTHER visa/mc/discover cards
When Disney still gives you a 5th Disney Visa (soon I imagine a 6th),
then I don't really think I have to worry about my credit at this time.
But thanks for the advise which IS generally true.
RE: My Life...
First off I doubt whats-his-name has ever been to the Grand Canyon...he's just jealous that I can go to WDW every other week.
Most people do nothing with their weekends, just because I decide to go to WDW on my weekends doesn't mean I don't have a life.
First of all, WDW is quite a wholesome, varied, diverse life to live and I hope to retire near there and spend my days there.
Second of all, I have spent many vacations hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway in my life,
and during the many vacations visited many other amusement parks (like Kings Island) and many caves including Mammoth Caves National Parks (and Elvis' homes)
I have returned to my birthplace on Long Island New York visiting relatives there and up in Saranac Lake in up-state NY. I've investigated my geneology, been married twice and have one 'model' darling daughter (you couldn't ask for a more perfect child, she is simply a joy).
I've run the local Star Trek fan club in the area for the last decade and a half (that's how I met my last wife) and have met (talked with eye to eye, shook hands, gotten autographs) with many stars at many science fiction conventions over the last decade and a half, including Patrick Stewart, Willam Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Bruce Boxlightner, Avery Brooks (and pretty much any Star Trek, Babylon 5, Stargate, Lost in Space star you can think of).
We also frequent the movies, all the Disney On Ice shows, Cirque du Soleil shows, MOSI, the local planetarium, the local zoo, the beach (rarely, we're Norweigian after all),
We've also been to Busch Gardens, Cypress Gardens, Universal, Sea World a few times.

I have no desire to go overseas, learning the languages to visit 'historic' sites (the World Showcase is much simplier, cleaner and friendlier), although I may someday visit other Disney parks in other parts of the world.

I think my life has been quite full, diverse and full of adventure and joy...
I hope you approve, now.
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH YOUR LIFE?

oh, and we did have a great time (as we ALWAYS do at WDW).
Even thought the dream itself was no big deal (we'd already done everything we normally do in the park that day, and we STARTED the day playing and dining with JoJo, Goliath, and the Einstines at Hollywood and Vine), just the principal that we had won a dream, had exclusive access to the park, and got to attend an exclusive dance party right down my daughter's alley made this last weekend MORE special than every other weekend that we spend there.

Disney is a major part of our lives and I am very proud of it, every wonderful positive aspect of it:)

Opening and Closing cards can be worse than not paying your bills.

I work at a credit union and while I wouldn't go around suggesting not paying your bills. It's better to have more open/balance free lines of credit than closing them, or keeping super high almost maxed balances on them. That's not to say, "Don't close them" but if you do, just don't do it all at once.

JeffH---

There is no need to be defensive about your life. I have lurked for so many years on WDWMagic for this very reason....rudeness. I always figured if I became a member that I'd be kicked off anyway because sometimes people on here just really trip my trigger and I have a hard time keeping quiet.

That being said, be comfortable in your own skin. I find that if I get too defensive about something that I show my own insecurities. If I could go to WDW every weekend I would too.

JeffH-you have nothing to explain to anyone. I defended you in an earlier post (it was deemed argumentative :D and I apologize for that) but I now know that you don't need defending at all because you can do that all by yourself:king: . If I could go to Disney every weekend, I certainly would. Thank you for sharing the "Dream" you won!

Ditto to Raven, SherryBaby, and Pluto. Thanks for sharing your dream experience. As I said above - I would like to hear more about people's "Dreams!"

I hope you did not take offense to my advice. Doing the work I do, I've just seen too many people get burned by credit card companies b/c they just didn't know any better. Hopefully my advice helped someone else - even if you didn't need it, as you say. :king: :)

It's all cool...

No offense taken, it's still good advice for most people.
I keep applying for the cards for the $10 gift card that my daughter then gets to turn into yet another dream of her own (she really looks forward to the 'free' money to spend).
Virtually all my extra money goes to Disney in one form or another (DVDs, movies, Ice Shows, WDW, WDW dining, Disney toys), this is just one way of rewarding myself.
I've heard that if they flat out recognize you, that they might give you an exclusive pin instead (of letting you sign up). And the bags they give away (when they don't have any $10 gift cards) are really excellent (see through netting for passing through security check points, an affective thermal pouch for keeping your water ice cold, and a handy little zipper pocket...we got 2).

Why I love to go to WDW all the time:
The food (and theming, service, variety...)
The unusually friendly and helpful attitude of the guests and cast members
The landscaping (expecially lush at AK)
The architecture (theming, attention to detail)
The little extras (talking water fountains, trash cans, fiber optics in walkways, I can't begin to list everything)
The ambiance (the music each area 'features')
The live entertainment (both planned and spontaneous)
The happiness of others/kids (meeting characters, playing in fountains)
The diversity (lavish hotels, jungles in AK, cultures in WS, future views, fantasy, I can't begin to list everything)
The pace...rush to do everything, or just relax on a bench and enjoy the world go by or anywhere in between.
Special events and parties (Flower and Garden, Food and Wine, MVMXP, MNSSHP...)
Fireworks
Shopping, in the parks and Downtown Disney and at the Character Outlet
Just being there
Staying at the fun family themed value resorts (Pop Century is our favorite)
Being recognized by the characters (we 'knew' several Mulans)
oh, and the attractions (and especially FastPass) are great, too.

JeffH or anyone what is Character Outlet? Forgive my lack of knowledge but I am not familiar with it.

My husband and I have become Disney addicts these last few years with my dear daughter - we would love to won the powerball to live in Disney not all year - but a second home would be WONDERFUL :ROFLOL: :ROFLOL:

Character Outlet is the official Disney outlet store. They sell all kinds of theme park souvenirs (lots of t-shirts, polos, and kids' stuff, plus a variety of other items) from the past year or two at big savings. Usually, you'll see last year's $25-30 tees starting between 5 and 9 dollars.

There's one store at the outlet mall next to Dixie Stampede (on the other side of I4 from Downtown Disney) and one (or maybe still two) at the Premier Outlets (used to be Belz) at the north end of I Drive. There's about 200 other outlets at Premier (including a Universal outlet), and not quite as many (but still a USF outlet) at Dixie Stampede.

They're definitely worth checking out (no damaged/seconds, just last year's stuff). Have a great time!

JeffH -

I hope you don't mind me inserting this in your thread, but I thought it would be fun. Here is my in-laws, wife, and 2 children all wearing our dreams that were handed out after we got off of Peter Pan's flight.

That is great! I wouldn't mind winning Mickey ears, but I doubt my husband or 13 year old would wear them.

My father in law took them off first chance he got and note-I'm taking the picture, so I can relate. It is a really cool vacation memory. Also, I forgot to mention that it was near the end of our trip and occurred about 5 minutes after my wife complained about not winning any YOMD stuff.

thanks

Thanks "toadh63" for the great description of where the Character Outlet was for shelbysmom, I couldn't have done any better...
We usually park around the back right of the center for the easiest in to the Character Outlet which is located at the southwest corner of the food court.
This last Sunday they were almost devoid of toys for some reason, whereas 2 weeks previous they had the normal back left section (and back wall) filled with them. When I asked someone about it, their answer didn't make much sense so I dismissed it. Yeh, we've picked up a lot of great things at great prices here.
And thanks, ASJHLJ, for sharing...loved the hats.
I (49yo) wore my pirate mickey ears hat at the Princess and Pirate party all night (I do not embarass easily), along with a pirate T-shirt and pirate gun.
