We Want the Poly!

Hi all

We have quite a predicament on our hands!
We are basically desperate to stay at the Poly for our next trip (January 12-20, 2010) but we are currently booked at ASSports.
The problem is that we are currently being quoted about $4,500 which is out of our price range.
The rate might go down a little since there are not solidified 2010 rates yet, and an AAA rate will help us out but it's still so expensive!

Are there any other deals I'm forgetting about, or other ways to get discounts? Some input from Kingdom Konsultants would be helpful if possible.

Thanks!

The rate will more than likely come down once 2010 rates are released. When you get a quote during a time where rates are not posted you will typically be quoted current peak or holiday rates. In the case of the Poly that can be a difference of as much as $220 per night. Recompute your quote using a factor of $350 per night and see what you come up with for your room. That will be much closer to what it will actually be at rack rate.

If you're lucky we'll still be in a terrible recession and they'll still be running the pay-for-4-get-3-nights-free promo then.

What everyone else said.

And also, as a longtime Poly fan but also one that is aware that money does not grow on trees, there's also the fact that it just plain is pretty expensive. :-\

Thanks for the suggestions everyone...much appreciated.
We have thought about buying annual passes and getting a passholder rate (which is subject to availability keep in mind), but we're not sure if it would actually save us money, considering the actual cost of the APs.
But we will keep trying!

If you are going to spend more than 10 days in the parks during the year you buy them it is cost effective. Judging by the dates you posted it looks like you will be in the parks at least 7 days. All you would need is another 3+ day trip within the next year for the AP to be worth it. The AP room discounts can be pretty decent. Plus, there are a few other discounts and perks too.

A couple of things....You will only need one AP per room to get the AP rates. Quite frequently the AP discount will range from 20%-40% which will allow you pay for your AP with only 2 or 3 nights worth of a stay at the Poly after that you are putting money in your pocket. Second the AP allows you to get the Tables in Wonderland card which will give you a 20% discount on nearly every TS restaurant on property as well as a few CS ones. Lastly there are a few other perks such as discounts on water park and DQ tickets, a 10% discount at WoD, etc.

Hey there, I agree with everything that Richard said, however there are a few other things to consider ( BTW I Am an AP holder) Some of the discounts that were offerred this year thus far are as good if not better than the AP rate given!!!! In a lot of cases ( Look over the Free Dining thread and the Buy 4 get 3 free thread) Some AP holders ended up getting these packages as they were a better deal than the AP discounts!!! As Tiggerific said, if you are going to spend over 10 days in the parks ( like I do) the AP is certainly most cost effective. As far as discounts you may be able to do better with other offers that come out and wouldnt require you to commit to an AP out of the gate. Just something to think about!!! Belle

and......you don't need an AP to book an AP rate you will just need it at check in. You can keep your options open almost up until your day of arrival.

Just to add my 2 cents... AP rates have been very steep as of late for the deluxe resorts. I considered booking 2 nights at the Poly later this month (adding nights to our existing reservation at AKL) and the AP rate for a garden view room at the Poly was $289/night plus tax. Rack rate is $415/night plus tax. I'm not very good at math, but I would bet that is just as good, if not better, than the buy 4, get 3 free deal. Especially if you have AP's and don't want to buy a one day base ticket. Hope this helps!

Also dont forget you can book a package with a park ticket and then if you get there and decide you want the AP for next time, you can always upgrade your ticket to the AP at any Guest Relations window at the parks. I believe the one in DTD does this as well. Belle

You are correct but.......you need to stay 7 days to make it worth it with an AP rate you ca stay as little as one night with around a 30% discount.

Hey there,

I believe that they use the "rack rate" aka highest current price, when booking before the new prices come out. Our trip for this November (at the Poly) was at a very high price when I booked it in September of '08, but once the 2009 prices came out my awesome KK agent Elizabeth was able to apply our AAA, etc. and the rate came down.

Hope that is helpful.

It's official...we changed our reservation to the Polynesian! So happy and excited!!!
It is pricey, but thank you Master Yoda for reminding us that the actual rate will go down and that we can use AAA or an AP rate as well.
It is worth it because we love it so much and kind of have a hard time imagining going without staying there!
Thanks everyone
