Trip Report We took the Wish for a spin! COMPLETE

Hello, everyone,

You may remember us from previous TRs including:

Land & Sea - Baja Style!
We kept in on the DL...the DCL
It’s not about Ryan Gosling, but there is a Gosling involved

Once again, it's time for another DCL adventure with @lostpro9het and @imahistorygeek.

We are doing a WDW/DCL/WDW sandwich and hopefully this isn't a bologna sandwich with miracle whip. Let's hope it's a fancy Italian Boars Head sub from Kroger with all the fixins.

I should preempt this by saying we still have to pass a covid test because our cruise is the last one to require testing if you're vaccinated. Boo on you DCL. So this entire TR could be scrapped on Wednesday morning.

When: We fly out on the evening of September 15.
Where: Our first night is the Poly. Got to get our rest in before at sea funtivities.
What are we doing: We're sailing on the Wish, back to back! This is a first for us.

We've combined a 3-night and 4-night with a Halloween party ticket when we return. This is a Halloween on the High Seas cruise which means costumes! I've made them and they're ready to go!

After we fly in, we will pick up our one-way rental from National. We have no park plans for arrival day and really no dinner plans either.
Embarkation day - we will drive to National Car rental at the port and get a shuttle to the port. We will do this same thing after debarkation and head back to the Poly. Our Halloween party tickets are for that evening and we fly home the next day.

We have found it very hard to get excited about our cruises. There are several reasons:
  • We still have to test. We will not pack until we pass the test. I still have some eMed tests left over from Celebrity (which no longer tests), so we will use them for our cruise.
  • Negative feedback regarding the Wish. We are trying to stay away from it. We know the ships aren't the same. We're not really researching anything, just looking at the food and drink menus. The only thing we will familiarize ourselves with is the deck plan, because it will be different and we don't want to waste our time trying to find things.
  • We are trying to buy a house. If things go well, we will close next Monday.
  • We are trying to sell our house. It's currently on the market and open for viewing and it will be while we are gone.
  • Our previous cruise (on the Wonder) was fine, but nothing spectacular, except for the BREACHING OF A WHALE!
However, there are some things we are looking forward to experiencing on the ship:
  • New ship and venues.
  • New drinks and food. There look to be some interesting food and drink choices, especially the drink that is in the ice ball at Nightingales.
With all this said, wish us luck for a negative test next Wednesday!

Goooooood morning!

Our standard view Poly room turned out to be a little less standard. About to get our SH77 on for breakfast before heading to port.

Day 1 thoughts - Marvel may be the worst DCL restaurant. If you're not into Marvel, you're left with the food as your entertainment and it is mediocre. Thus is the first place I've really felt packed in. No room to move.

The bars have been really nice with unique drinks. Signature drinks run abt $20 each. Thus is what you get in Nightingale's for $20. You do not keep the glass.

Good news. There is real scooped ice cream on board that doesn't cost extra!

Marceline Market is so nice and the layout is great. Again, such a beautiful ship.

I mentioned the pool before. There is zero point zero shade for the loungers. We are pool all day people and had to call it quits around noon because you can't really cool off in the pool and there is no shade.

The location of the pool is nice, but the lack of any shade is just crazy.

We are in the pub now and it's probably my favorite of all the ship pubs.

My goal is to try all the old fashioned drinks on the ship.

I loved Keg & Compass! Did you notice the Maelstrom tribute?

Did not, but we will be on the lookout for next time.
First leg is under the belt. The b2b process has been fairly smooth. We forgot the documents with QR codes for checkin, but nowhere on the instructions does it say bring it. Just added an extra few minutes to the checking back in, but not a big deal. Port employees thought we still tested and kept trying to send us to the tent outside to test. We are now waiting in the terminal to get back on the ship.

The good so far:
- We didn't have to pack up our bags for b2b
- Debarkation was a smooth process. Customs was a bit backed up, but the line moved quickly.
- Ship navigation is easier than reports of being lost and dead ends.
- Luna is a really good venue and Match Your Mate has been updated with 2 hosts. It was a fun time.
- Nightingale Lounge is the piano bar and is a great atmosphere. The pub is also great.
- AC works wonderfully in the room.
- Aft room vibration is almost non-existent
- Seas the Adventure and The Little Mermaid are great shows.
- 1923 has the best food of the three rotational.
- BBQ, tacos, and pizza are the best pool food of all the ships.
- Staterooms are very nice.
- Castaway Cay - Serenity Bay is back to two rows of chairs. The beach and water was some of the best we've ever seen. Food was still good. Brisket was on the menu.
- DVC gatherings are back and they've been revamped. The sales pitch is mostly gone, but you do see a feel good video in the beginning. There's a game in the middle, and a character comes out for pictures at the end. It was a fun event. No more trying to win $500 obc.
- Everything has a new car smell.

What needs improvement or is just plain bad design:
- Marvel - if you're a Marvel fan, you may like it, but it's the same video over and over, nothing really interactive. The tables are packed in there tight. Servers can barely move between them.
- The adult area - Listening to other conversations and reflecting on our own - NO ONE liked this area. It's too small. The pool is not ADA accessible in any way. No steps into the pool, just a ladder. Loungers are nice, but zero shade.
- Cove Cafe - This place is a trek to get to and if you want coffee, just go somewhere else. A press pot of regular coffee for one person is $10.
- There are 2 banks of elevators, which is fine, but they could be spread out a bit more. It's a LONG walk from midship to aft.

That's it for right now. We're having a good time and are excited for our 2nd leg.
