Trip Report We took the Wish for a spin! COMPLETE

Hello, everyone,

You may remember us from previous TRs including:

Land & Sea - Baja Style!
We kept in on the DL...the DCL
It’s not about Ryan Gosling, but there is a Gosling involved

Once again, it's time for another DCL adventure with @lostpro9het and @imahistorygeek.

We are doing a WDW/DCL/WDW sandwich and hopefully this isn't a bologna sandwich with miracle whip. Let's hope it's a fancy Italian Boars Head sub from Kroger with all the fixins.

I should preempt this by saying we still have to pass a covid test because our cruise is the last one to require testing if you're vaccinated. Boo on you DCL. So this entire TR could be scrapped on Wednesday morning.

When: We fly out on the evening of September 15.
Where: Our first night is the Poly. Got to get our rest in before at sea funtivities.
What are we doing: We're sailing on the Wish, back to back! This is a first for us.

We've combined a 3-night and 4-night with a Halloween party ticket when we return. This is a Halloween on the High Seas cruise which means costumes! I've made them and they're ready to go!

After we fly in, we will pick up our one-way rental from National. We have no park plans for arrival day and really no dinner plans either.
Embarkation day - we will drive to National Car rental at the port and get a shuttle to the port. We will do this same thing after debarkation and head back to the Poly. Our Halloween party tickets are for that evening and we fly home the next day.

We have found it very hard to get excited about our cruises. There are several reasons:
  • We still have to test. We will not pack until we pass the test. I still have some eMed tests left over from Celebrity (which no longer tests), so we will use them for our cruise.
  • Negative feedback regarding the Wish. We are trying to stay away from it. We know the ships aren't the same. We're not really researching anything, just looking at the food and drink menus. The only thing we will familiarize ourselves with is the deck plan, because it will be different and we don't want to waste our time trying to find things.
  • We are trying to buy a house. If things go well, we will close next Monday.
  • We are trying to sell our house. It's currently on the market and open for viewing and it will be while we are gone.
  • Our previous cruise (on the Wonder) was fine, but nothing spectacular, except for the BREACHING OF A WHALE!
However, there are some things we are looking forward to experiencing on the ship:
  • New ship and venues.
  • New drinks and food. There look to be some interesting food and drink choices, especially the drink that is in the ice ball at Nightingales.
With all this said, wish us luck for a negative test next Wednesday!

We are back at the Poly for our last night of vacation and the Halloween party!

It was a good 7 days on the Wish. There's some good, some bad, and some what were they thinking.

Embarkation process was standard and there were no surprises. It was our first time doing a one-way rental to Port Canaveral and the folks at National/Enterprise were super nice. We had a VW Atlas for this leg of the trip. Good experience with the shuttle as well. We arrived about 30 minutes before our PAT and were checked in. We were boarding group 10, so that meant we didn't actually board until a little after 12.

The decor on the Wish is completely different than the other 4 ships. It's beautiful, but if you're used to the other 4, it def doesn't have that DCL feel. The atrium is nice and the tree is different on this ship. The pumpkins are already out, but do change throughout the cruise. One thing we noticed was the new ship smell. It's everywhere.

We were greeted by Flynn and Rapunzel when we entered the atrium. The tree was up and decorated with pumpkins.

The atrium is where you find the entrances to 1923 and some shopping.

After hanging out at the postage stamp adult pool (more on that later), it was time to head to the room. Rooms are beautiful. We were all the way aft and it's a trek from the aft elevators.

There are a ton of usb ports and plug ins, plus a bathroom nightlight. The TV is now on the wall in front of the bed which is pretty much useless for any other people in the room. It doesn't not move off of the wall. Also, if you are used to the lights on the wall on the outside of the split bath, it'll take some time to get used to because the lights are now inside the room. The AC in the room is magnificent.

Beds were comfortable and we thought the rooms were just as spacious as on the other 4 ships. We did take a look at an inside stateroom. It was pretty massive. If, and that's a really big IF, we book this ship again, we would stay in one of these rooms close to an elevator bank.

I can't understand the TV placement in some of the rooms I've seen. From the inside room where the TV is on the wall next to the bed but doesn't move or tilt makes no sense. Why have the TV on a wall where it can't be seen from the bed? And if the adult places are so small on the ship, why put the TV directly across from the bed like it's a room built for couples? It's really weird decision making on the Wish.

Sorry for the delay! While we were on the cruise our own house went under contract, so that added a tiny bit of stress because we had to find phone service and internet (which we did not pay for). It was moot because they backed out and our house is under contract again. We did close on the house we had under contract. So back to work and all the business that goes along with it. We also have to move the weekend after next.

Back to it.

It was raining outside on embarkation day, so sail away was inside the atrium. It was packed.

I LOVED seeing the kids get excited about the characters. There were quite a few adults on the cruise that I guessed were influencers or self-proclaimed influencers and I would see them recording themselves watching a show with a dumb head tilt and one finger touching the side of the month. I don't get it.

This is what the stage looks like without a show. There are character meet and greets here as well.

The ship is supposed to look like a floating castle. Disney did a good job with this. The walls of the main areas do look like a castle and the lights are flickering sconces. There are also hanging tapestries in two sort of hidden stairwells.

There are quite a few mosaics. They're really nice. Look, I'm not a fan of the original Pinocchio, but I don't dislike it. It's OG Disney. However, the Tom Hanks version is garbage. Tom Hanks is great in many things, but he should have never agreed to this movie. Let's face it, this movie shouldn't have been remade. With that said, here are some really great Pinocchio mosaics.

There are two small theatres on board.

They are on each side of the ship, directly across from each other. A snack location is in the middle.

I have a water fountain photo that I took around the same time, so it must be close by on an outside deck. Don't hold me to that.

One place we didn't stop by and didn't experience was Hook's Barbery.
20220916_172921.jpg

It was busy almost all the time. Either people were drinking or getting a shave. It's a pretty cool space.

One of my favorite lounges was Nightingale's. It's basically the piano bar on the ship. It's located right off the atrium, so it can get loud if the doors are open. It's busy pretty much all the time it's open. They host a lot of drink seminars in here.

This is one of the entrances. It's another mosaic.

The signature drink is Sweet Nightingale. IT IS SWEET.

Hendricks Amazonia, Passion Fruit, Rosemary, Mint -$20
You do not get to keep the glass. Almost all the signature drinks in the lounges are $20.

It's pretty and good, but too sweet. It was a one and done.

My next drink at some point was the chocolate frozen bubbles. The drink was poured into an ice ball that you break open. Fun, but also sweet. It's definitely a dessert drink. Baileys Salted Caramel, Absolut Vanilia, Chocolate

This was another sweet drink (the menu has a lot of these) was Lucifer's Punch.

SelvaRey White, Fumè Blanc, Orange, Moët & Chandon Impérial

@lostpro9het has more photos including Nightingale's version of an old fashioned.

For the first leg, Marvel was our first dining room.

These are on both sides of the entrance to the dining room, which by the way, is right outside the elevators.

The theming for the dining rooms on the Wish is how many tables can we squeeze into a small space. You are inches away from the next table and even the servers had trouble making it between the tables. They hated it.

For my appetizer, I chose the Crispy Breaded Fried Shrimp with White Cheddar and Corn Grits, Bell Peppers, Collard Greens, Smokehouse Barbecue Sauce.
20220916_205318.jpg

Presentation was nice. The shrimp was super jumbo and a little tough, but tasted fine. The grits were flavorless and needed salt. There were salt and pepper shakers on the table, which I don't remember seeing on the other ships.

My soup course was the Cream of Porcini Mushroom Soup with Sour Cream, Red Beet, Lemon
309403150_6213864461975441_3358027179626730229_n.jpg

It was pretty good. I'm always on the hunt for the same mushroom soup that was served ages ago at Artist's Point at Wilderness Lodge. RIP Taste of the Pacific

My main dish was Seared Turbot Filet with Sweet Pea Purée, Roasted Heirloom Carrots, Romanesco, Pancetta, Tarragon Sandefjord Sauce.
20220916_212331.jpg

I've had turbot before and should know better. It's a STRONG fish. Again, needed salt and was fine.

Dessert was standard DCL gold-leaf dessert.
Nano Dobos Torta - Layered Cake, Rich Chocolate Truffle Cream, Caramel

I'll post Sean's next, but so far, Avengers isn't winning any awards.
