We Survived Ian … in an RV. Another JenniferS Live Trip Report

Nope. Thanks to the words “Traffic ahead is delayed One Hour and Twen-ty-five minutes. You are still on the fastest route”, we didn’t make it far enough south. Tomorrow for sure.

There is a brand new Buc-ee’s 30 miles from here, so that will be our coffee and gas up spot before we start driving in earnest tomorrow.

It’s approximately 7 hours (driving time, so maybe 9 hours RV travel time) before we hit our final layover tomorrow night before arriving in the Keys on Thursday.

Today was a bit of a stressful day. The weather was ick; the traffic was disgusting; our electronics did NOT want to co-operate, so there may have been a little back and forth sniping; but certainly no yelling or mean comments. Canadians get passive aggressive/snarky, but not generally nasty. We leave that to our hockey players.

We should try to be out of here by 8:00, but who knows? If it gets hot as heck with no A/C - earlier. If we’re zonked right out - maybe later. We do not want to hit the KOA after dark though. That’s no fun.

Good night Peeps.
Where is the new Buc-ee's? We stopped at a new one on the way back from FL, but it was so crazy busy we got back in our car and went to another one a ways up the road that was still crazy busy, but not as crazy busy.

Don't know what's worse, rush hour Northern VA/DC , Atlanta or downtown Los Angeles.
I drive on North America’s busiest highway daily when I’m working, including the 18 lane wide stretch by Pearson Airport. Last night was as bad as I’ve ever seen it. Add in towing a 33’ trailer that we’re still getting used to, spectacular lightning, heavy rain, being in a foreign country, and a full bladder … and yeah, it kind of sucked for a bit.

We decided that sleep was important. We were the first ones here, and looks like we’ll be the last to leave.

In the past when we’ve driven to FL, we almost always drove straight through, but with the trailer and the dog, we have to take our time.

We went for the 3-night trifecta - hotel, boondock, KOA campsite. Our bingo card will be full before we even reach our true destination.

Mike is going to walk the pup while I pack up and secure everything loose, and we hit the road again.

I. Need. Coffee. And Apple juice. (I chose fan over phone last night.)

And to make it worse... You had a bathroom not 20 feet behind you.

I once could not believe my eyes. I was at a truck stop using the facilities and I saw a trucker get out of his big rig to check his engine. He was wearing nothing except an adult diaper.
