We Survived Ian … in an RV. Another JenniferS Live Trip Report

Did you watch the whole video? A bunch of scattered comments:
1) All these rigs make that same creaking noise. Stresses me out.

2) He ain’t lying about some parking lots being uncomfortably tight. He’s bigger than us for sure, but far more seasoned, so it about equals out.

3) We have what appears to be the same Furion camera.

4) At least his “driving” weather was good. Ours has been horrendous. When we left the Keys last Saturday, it was picture postcard perfect … hit the mainland and it was storm after storm after storm. Really hoping for a nice weather haul to Pigeon Forge.

5) Everybody you meet on your travels is a “friend”. I’m not a real social person in real life, but on the road, I’m totally different.

Our friends The BB’s texted us … come back to Fiesta Key now that your Disney trip is cancelled. We thought about it, seriously for a moment, but are going to stick with getting to Pigeon Forge and enjoying that area for a few days.

Pool is closed because one of the pumps overheated, but the repairman is on his way, and hopefully we can swim tonight.
I did notice his driving weather was better. I wouldn't wish what you've driven through on anybody, well maybe I could think of a person or 2:angelic:
After everything I hope you get some pool time in and clear skies and roads up to PF

It’s been cancelled. 🙁

Was supposed to have been Sunday, but there is no re-opening date for Fort Wilderness at this time.

I just got off the phone with the call centre. They have no idea when it’s re-opening, and the CM agreed that it’s not likely to be by Sunday.

We talked about going back to the Keys, but now we’re thinking of just heading home. It will take two days to get to Pigeon Forge, and then a full day to clean it, pack everything, winterize, and then put it in storage. That would get us home by Thursday some time … just in time for Thanksgiving weekend.

Also, I have a tooth bugging me. Maybe I can get a dentist appointment for Friday before the long weekend.

Disappointed, of course, but we’ve had a pretty awesome vacation. No complaints. Disney will have to wait. Maybe Tron will be open by then.
Sorry to hear that. Guardians is also great so that's something to look forward to as well.

Mike got up early to help Mark finalize hooking up, then we went to the beach.

As usual, Daisy was not impressed by the waves. Not a bright sunny day, but a pleasant 81° degrees. The surf was coming in so rough, that even now, an hour later, I can still taste the salt on my lips.

I picked up a handful of shells. A pocketful technically. I picked a couple with perfectly placed holes.

Mike: Why are you picking ones with holes?
Me: In case I want to make a necklace.
Mike: But will you?

And now you know I HAVE to!

Now it’s time for the Jays game. We need to sweep and dust. Post Ian, sand is all of a sudden turning up everywhere! We’ve been here a whole month and just now, things are getting sandy.

We need to stow as much as we can tonight, so we can just hook up and go tomorrow. We’ve got about 6 hours of driving tomorrow, overnight somewhere (the plan is Carroll’s Sausage RV Park again, but who knows?), and then another 6 hours the next day.

We’ll stay in PF for 4 nights; winterized and store the trailer; and then another 12 hours drive straight drive home.

Dinner at Carrabba’s again tonight, because why not?!?

Do it!! Those shells would make an outstanding necklace -- and one-of-a kind.

We went back to Carrabba’s. They were having numerous Ian-induced headaches tonight. The roof was leaking, and about 1/4 of the tables were corralled off, while water was steadily dripping into large 10 gallon pails. Also there were signs at the door and at the hostess stand that one of their delivery trucks did not arrive and multiple items were not available … including their signature bread.

Apparently this bread is from Walmart. Mike said it was fine.

I didn’t even have to pretend that I was going to share.

Mike either.

No croutons, so you know it’s mine.

Mike went with their house salad with their signature parm something dressing. His salad was much smaller than mine. Also, it had gross tomatoes and olives.

This is Mike’s. There’s seafood pasta somewhere under all that cheese.

Most of this will also be Mike’s tomorrow. I ate all of the asparagus, and a couple of bites of the steak. (Pork chops were supposed to be on the second delivery that didn’t make it today.)
Potatoes on a separate plate.

We are showered and headed to bed. Tomorrow is pull out day. In case you haven't discerned, I’m not too crazy about the “travel” aspect of a travel trailer.

Doesn’t help that one of our friends was in a bit of an accident, less than 30 minutes from his destination today. Rig is fine, hitch is pooched, truck bumper is going to need to be replaced. To add insult to injury, he’s the one who got cited, even though he had two cars cut in front of him, one from each direction, in stop and go traffic. A dash cam would have backed him up, but because he hit the car ahead of him, in the absence of compelling evidence to the contrary, he was automatically at fault. He’s fine … my nerves are shot.

We had a nice stay here for 8 days, all things considered. It really was a safe port in the storm, even though we weren’t able to do much sight seeing or fun activities.

Good night Peeps. We’re aiming to be on the road by 10:00, which means we’ll just make the 11:00 checkout time by the skin of our teeth. 😂

We got on the turnpike at 11:01.

If anyone has ever wondered what the RV looks like with the slides in, here ya go. Excuse the mess, everything loose on the counter is going into the truck.

Slides out:
