During Irma , the 72 year old manager of the Ernest H home in Key West refused to evacuate. She, some staff and all the cats rode out the horrific hurricane hunkered down in the house.
Yes, we heard that story during the tour the other day. At 14’ elevation, it’s the only home in KW with a basement. Also, if I recall, the docent said the walls were 18” thick.

Even so, we rode out Irma at Coronado Springs. That was an event in itself. I can’t imagine hunkering down in KW.

So how was it sleeping in the hotel convention center with many other fellow guests?

We weren’t moved into the convention Centre. We were ordered to remain in our room - second floor of Casitas Building 3. We had a room facing Lago Dorado.

I was actually posting live in a trip report as it was all unfolding. We had some water blow in under our door. I lifted all the shoes off the floor, and put down half a dozen pool towels to block the wind and rain from coming in.

This is what happened when I opened the door to look outside. Standing on a covered walkway, nowhere near the railing, for 31 seconds ….

The parks were closed for two days, so Disney converted those two lost days to two each single day PH passes that don’t expire until 2030. We used one when we were doing a Tampa NYE trip a few years ago. We’ll be using the last ones in a few weeks.

The like is for the undated passes good for a good amount of time

I am assuming the water they're referring to in this message does not include the water that is coming from under the door?

I’d have to go back and check the trip report, but I think we filled the tub, in case we needed it to flush the toilet.

I do remember that we had tons of bottled water to drink, plus all the fixings for my WDW-exclusive café mocha.

Ha! (My TR reminded me that we did not get a refurbed room, and they wouldn’t let us voluntarily “downgrade” from a premium King to get one.)
I just Googled the old CS rooms. Honestly, I think I like the old rooms better. Just replace the carpeting. I think it's the headboards. The newer bathrooms are by far nicer, though. Having stayed in one for a single night, it was nice having the shower.

I’m cheap. And my 8 works perfectly fine, aside from needing a $60 battery replacement in February.

Plus, I’m a Luddite. I need a home button!
Sorry to tell you this but just owning an iPhone, regardless of the number after it, gets you completely expelled from the Luddite club. You are deep, deep, deep into technology. Admitting that is the first step in healing. There is plenty of time to accept it, since you are 6 layers of obsession behind in technology and have saved thousands of dollars of compulsive spending. The problem is they will find a way, in the near future, to force you to move higher up the ladder. Hell, when I think of it, someone in Chicago monitors my heart/pacemaker through my phone every three months and I don't even know when they are actually doing that. And that is with an iPhone 8, so I may claim that I am not "into" technology, however, technology is literally "into" me.
