Figures, doesn't it? :(

She's the kid who's illnesses typically last a week - and very rarely does the rest of the family catch her bugs. She's got a great talent for getting sick - she catches the bugs no one else seems to want. LOL

Anyhow, I'm such a bad parent that I'm going to definitely keep her out of school to rest on Monday & Tuesday - even if her fever goes away. (She also has been known to get rid of a fever only for it to spike back up again a few days later.)

So ... here's the question ... I'm doing some preventive medicine for the rest of the clan. Any suggestions? I'm going to go load up on some Vitamin C pills at the store since I can't think of anything else to get. Any suggestions?

SIZE=1]P.S. I just realized I should've posted this in the General Forum ... whoops.[/SIZE]

Bummer news Holly. My best suggestion is for everyone to WASH THEIR HANDS. That is the best way to aviod getting sick. Make sure they wash their hands long enough too with soap and water.

Vit. C is a good idea and plenty of sleep. You still have 4 days to get her well.

Hope she gets better...soon.

Plenty of hand washing, Vitamin C, and plenty of rest. I also go through a can of Lysol spray (it makes me feel better). When I feel the scratchies start in my throat, I load up on the orange juice, Vitamin C and B-12. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Have a Great Trip!

Try doing a thread search on "Zicam". Recently there was an extensive discussion on Zicam, Cold Eeze & other holistic remedies that really work! I'm a user of these products & they work!

Whoops - so sorry, It was on another board that we discussed the holistic cold remedies. Try www.disboards.com and do a search on the word Zicam. You can also go to www.zicam.com to learn more. It's great stuff.

It's strange ... right after reading your post, I saw a t.v. ad for Zicam.

ZICAM ROCKS!!!

I use it a LOT during the colder months here in the midwest.
Sure its like $10 at Walgreens ..... but it does work...

A few years ago... I had such a bad cold... and sore throat.. I was loosing my voice... and at the time... I had an on air reporter posistion... I finished my last report for the night...and lost my voice completly right after I went off the air :( Anywhoo... I started ZICAM... and less than 2 days later.. I got most of my voice back...and the cold was gone :)

Hey there sorry to hear your daughter feels poorly!!! Give her a kiss and hug for me!!! Also note on your guidemaps, there are first aid stations in every park. I myself have used the services of the one in MK which is right between Casey's and the Crystal palace (Walled off for rehab right now) they were VERY good about giving me chewable tylenol, advil whatever it was when I had a headache that wouldnt leave. I had chewable aspirin but back at the resort. They are very good in there so dont be afraid to check it out!!! Good luck and have a great time!!! Belle

Thanks for the info! Hopefully I won't have to use it!

Her fever was gone when I tucked her into bed tonight, so I'm crossing my fingers. You just never know with my oldest though ... she could be fine all day tomorrow and then BAM! up to 104.

We'll just have to wait and see!

Remember
-Water
-Rest
-Constant temperature (as in, don't move in and out of the AC a lot)

If you keep those things high, that means that she'll stay ok. KEEP UP THE WATER! Also, I was sick at WDW last time and the Cold Alacelzer (sp?) works VERY well.

Add little bleach to your dishawater when washing the dishes. This will work to prevent her illness from passing to others in the family.

Also, lysol or otherwise disinfect the telephone receiver. That is another great mechanism for spreading illness.

I hope she feels better before the trip. Good Luck!

Holly, I don't have a great suggestion for you that they others haven't already mentioned (like Zicam), but I did want to wish her well. I am sorry to hear she is getting sick right before a trip to Disney :( , I know how that can be. I was sick for a week in December a few years back...not fun at all. I hope she gets plenty of rest and gets well before she goes... some extra strength PIXIE DUST being sent her way.

Update ...

Thanks for all the advice everyone!

She actually hasn't *looked* sick the past couple of days ... which is totally NOT normal for her when she has a fever. A simple fever of 100 can leave her looking limp and pale and extremely tired.

She's been acting pretty much okay since late yesterday - and pretty darn normal today ... fighting with her sister and everything. :animwink:

I just took her temp and it's at 99 ... so hopefully, HOPEFULLY, by Wednesday she'll be totally recovered. But I'm still keeping her out of school Monday and Tuesday.

Don't know about your school, Holly, but you just mention the word "fever" and our school nurse freaks out. They will have no problem excusing the absence if you mention one of the magic words.

(the other two are vomiting and diarrhea )

And you are right--fighting with the sister is a good sign of recovery.
