OK- I know the last few posts sounded very doom & gloom, but fear not! Great cakes are still coming out of the Disney bakeries...so, I think it's just going to be some things here and there that are going to present issues. Here are a few new ones...including something I've never seen them do before :)

Toy Story...

Snow White...

Something I've NEVER seen them do before...SPIDERMAN!!!!!!!!!! I guess this is proof that the Marvel characters are available for cakes! WOOOHOOO!!! :D My younger daughter saw this and is now sad that I got her a Mickey cake!

So, I think it's safe to say that there are still TONS of things they can do, but be prepared b/c there are now more things that they can't.

Do they have any fave characters? There's a combo Belle/Snow White cake on the first page (copied the pics below) that might lend itself well to other split cake concepts (I think it was done for twins). Obviously, concepts like Mickey/Minnie, Jessie/Woody, etc. would work really well, but they might be willing to combine other characters that wouldn't normally go together. Ex. if it were a split cake for myself and DH, I'd want one side Donald and the other Stitch.

Depending on budget and preferences, two mini cakes- two mini wedding cakes- OR- two 6" cakes "could" cost less than the split single cake idea and still allow for individual preferences.

My 12 yr old still amazes me! We asked her on the sly about what was her favorite character? I knew it wasn't going to be a princess (though she is a girly, girl).. she told me the TOYs from Toy Story! What! Well at least it will make the theme much eaiser. The ds likes everything so we are good to go, come on September!

Sharing another cake...the GF did this for a wedding...

CPS_2951.jpg

I am guessing the GF would probably charge quite a premium for this cake...but considering the tower is the most popular Rapunzel style cake from non-WDW bakeries...nice to see how the GF does it since it could probably be used as inspiration for a less involved version of the cake.

Personally, I prefer when the cake incorporates the full tower. One of my girls had asked for the Tangled tower before changing their mind...but I found this cake below in my inspiration photos I had saved just in case they changed back. Personally, I'm glad they shifted to a different idea b/c this is one highly labor intensive cake...not to mention the balancing act involved.

A couple of new cakes...

...I'm becoming quite the fan of the LED effect on the mini castle. According to the poster, this cake was from the GF and $30.

Not the greatest angle on this...but it's a 2D edible image of pirate Mickey + other pirate accents...Contemporary bakery...$77- not bad.

Also found a few more fun Disney wedding cakes...

A friend of mine just got back from WDW and shared some of her daughter's bday cake photos with me. There are a couple of interesting things to point out here...
1. They told her they couldn't do Lighting McQueen due to copyright issues, but they added him to the cake anyway
2. I have never seen any kind of chocolate molded Cars figures before this.

I don't know the particulars on the cake beyond it being made by the GF bakery.

Baffles my mind. I sent Chef Brian the quote request last night on the cake we talked about. My husband has pretty much vetoed getting one though. :(

I know. :( He was just so disappointed with the podium cake he is afraid we will pay $100 for a cake that is inedible. My mom and he just want to get her a huge cookie cake and put that book figure on it.

What does your daughter want? And would they take that into consideration?

I know it's a hard sell when someone has been burned by the podium cake. Even I've had a nasty podium cake... I think that's why I was so happy when I found out about custom cakes at WDW. Of course, there's still the chance of getting a bad one, but the odds are greatly reduced.

She had asked for a cookie cake this year. So that may be the solution. I just know that she is very picky and will be disappointed if it isn't a certain way.

Cracks me up. She caught me looking at the pics on this thread. She started saying I want a Belle, I want a Mulan, I want a Minnie, I want Ariel. Sigh. I asked if she still wanted a cookie cake. She said no, not until my non Disney birthday. Argh.
