What are the security checks like at Disney World now? Are they at every park? Do they check everyone or just pick people randomly?

41 days until paradise! WDW!

The past two times we went (Apr and Nov 2002) the checks were before you got in line to enter the parks. Anyone with a bag had to go through the checks and open their bags and let the security person look around. People who did not have a bag just could walk through an open space next to the tables.

if i remember correctly - when i was there last fall they were also inspecting strollers as well...

i am a firm believer in better safe than sorry... i even point out the pockets in my bags that they miss... if they miss one in my bag - they are likely to miss one "a bad guys" bag too...

Although I'm sure that the security checks do occasionally catch thing that shouldn't be going into the park, i find them hilarious. When we went to MGM the security guard looked in my purse and took out a piece of paper that had my friends address on it. Infront of the rest of the line he started questioning me if it was my boyfriends address, and was i sending him a letter or a gift..... it was funny, but highly embarrassing. I finally was just like could I please have that back.... It did put me in a good mood for the rest of the day, however, I didn't really understand the safety about the whole procedure.... BUT if makes ppl feel safer then I'm all for it.....:sohappy:

Same thing happened to me. The guard asked me what was in my Disney bag and I told him souvenirs, but he just said ok and let me thru. I wish he would have looked because that made me a little uneasy that he would just believe what I said. I could have had something else my bag besides a souvenir.
Like a "laser" bwhahahahaha:drevil:
sorry had to do it:lol:

that's my point - who's to say you didn't have something dangerous in your bag... what is the point of having security checkpoints if they aren't really going to check you out? when we went to a football game we had to go through pretty strict security where they actually patted everyone down on their way into the stadium - it took a bit longer to get in but at least i felt like they were taking security seriously - and no - i'm not suggesting that they start patting down all guests before letting them into the parks - but i am suggesting their security checks might need to be taken a bit more seriously...

I'm not gonna say it again, because I have ranted on about how ineffectual the security checks are in so many threads now.

Interesting that they are now checking strollers. Do they make you remove the child?

Yes, Disney does have security checks at every park. And they do check everybody who has bag, purse, etc.

Was he doing it in a joking sort of way or was he serious about the paper? I think that would have put me in a bad mood for the rest of the day. I don't mind some heightened security, but I feel that in some cases they are starting to go too far.

amen man...

CM parking is even worse now that they've added backstage parking restrictions. Several times I work at DAK, and there are no parking spots left for CM's, so I end up parking either at the guest lot or at the DAK lodge and take Disney transportation to my work location. I understand the need for security, but at what point does sercurity become redundant...

I got back two weeks ago. The checks at the main 4 parks were before the main turnstiles and everybody that was carrying a bag of any description was checked. The strange thing was some bags were checked more thoroughly than others ie some guards would open my camera bag and see the camera and ok it - others would ask for the camera to be removed.
The only people who aren't checked are those without bags.

Makes me kinda glad our daughters is gonna be nealry 2 1/2 this time round and we won't have to bring quite so many 'essentials' to the park each day.

It used to be a real bane having to have two bags checked, one with all her diapers and lotions and the other with the video camera and stuff.

One will be much easier. :)

I think that he just meant it as a joke... the security guard next to him was laughing so that was my assumption anyways.... you know how Wal-Mart has greeters that's what the Disney security ppl seem like to me... just an observation...

I've said this about Disney Security before, and I'll say it again:

Thank god they don't give them guns

The secruity measures currently in place are there for one reason only - to comfort the general public into thinking that Disney is doing something to combat would be 'bad guys'.

In reality, they don't do anything to deter people from bringing in dangerous items as if you really wanted to get something into the park, you could, a dog could probably figure out a way to smuggle something in.

I agree that you could probably get just about anything into the parks if you wanted to. But I wouldn't rag on Disney Security too much. I'm sure there's a lot of training that goes into it- especially in light of September 11th. I would bet that there is some "profiling" that goes into the searches too. (i.e., a young mom pushing a stroller isn't too likely to be a terrorist, while single, Arabic looking men get a much closer look).

In the months following 9/11, even the Federal Government expressed some serious concern about the security at the Disney Parks. (Check out Bob Bob Woodward's book BUSH AT WAR). Does anyone remember the plot with the crop dusters in Florida? It was pretty transparent what they were going to do with those.

If, God forbid, there was ever an attack at WDW, it would not only be a tradgedy to rival 9/11, but it would probably spell the end for the parks. I cannot believe that Disney would take that chance.

Bottom line: Security at WDW may look a little goofy (sorry, I couldn't help it) on the surface, but I bet there's a LOT more going on behind the scenes that we don't know about. Isn't this what Disney is best at doing?

Lets see, are there any CM's out there with knowledge of an emergency plan at WDW? Are you allowed to talk about it?

Good Grief! It seems like no matter how many times I proof read my posts, I wind up with spelling and gramatical errors. Sorry. Apologies to Bob Bob too.
