News WDW Resorts to add fees for parking

Oh, the horror of it all. I just hate having to pay money for things on my luxury vacation. Seriously, I could have sworn that Disney already charged resort fees.

I don't see the big deal and the other resorts do this for a reason. So, why not Disney?

It wouldn't be such a blow to the pocket book if Disney would start doing the right thing when it comes to adding new attractions, refurbs, and maintenance so attractions don't breakdown all the time! So is Disney charging RESORT FEES or just charging for resort parking? I would think Disney will come up with a value parking for those who are going to be at the resorts for 7+ days...a flat parking fee!

They could have raised the room prices by $2 more than the parking fees, and I would grumble and pay it, and enjoy my time there. I expect prices to go up, it happens all the time.

Charge me for something that was free for the last 20 years that I have been visiting, and I feel ripped off.

It’s kind of funny to step back and realize everyone’s complaining about a $25 on a $400+ PER NIGHT ROOM. I mean I get it I don’t stay at the resorts anymore it’s just too expensive. By contrast though the parking fee is negligible. The problem isn’t the parking fee but the room rate. The fact is though Disney will still fill the rooms and it won’t matter if people are upset.

I'm not much of a letter writer and I doubt it will do any good but I sent them a letter saying Parking Fees (and Resort Fees) are the bridge I most likely won't cross when it comes to staying onsite. I've already booked 2 offsite upcoming trips because the values & moderates were full for the days I wanted to go. I was willing to pay a little bit more for the "Disney Bubble", because I like the theming, and the convenience of onsite free parking/no resort fees. Yeah everyone else in Orlando charges them but often times their rates are a lot lower than Disney rates. Now Disney will have the highest rates AND parking fees?! Add to the fact the values & moderates are basically beautifully landscaped motel courts. I mean you can't really leave your windows open and enjoy the moderate views unless you like the parade of folks walking by all the outdoor hallways. It kills me to give up Disney Transportation though. I hate how boxed in by shuttle schedules you get at other hotels.

I saw a different few schedule...but still. Jeeze. The rates are already climbing higher and higher and ticket prices...

This will most likely have guests seeking off property accommodations! There are a few hotels that do not charge resort fees or parking fees! It is bad enough they charge $22 for theme park parking! But in a way I understand a little...everyone was wanting $15 hour pay to make a decent living, but we never thought it would impact things we enjoy that were included in our vacation prices! In order to get to the $15 an hour pay increase, prices have to be raised! I see them inventing a Parking package of some type! The OP mentioned that DL has been charging for years...there is a difference in DL and WDW...DL has no land and therefore makes space at a premium...WDW has space! Oh well like I said in another post, this will most likely be my last trip because of the costs! If they would compensate for the higher costs in SOME way, it would make it a little easier to handle! A spoonful of sugar...

So, to clarify some disparities between my understanding from more than a year ago about the plans and what was released today, here’s what I believe is happening:

What was announced today is a temporary measure. That doesn’t mean the parking fees will ever go away, it’s just temporary in how the fees will be assessed.

Eventually you will see the hardware installed at all the parking lots in the resorts to track parking. Once that happens, day guests will be charged as well, but have a validation system in place to keep it free if you are dining.

As for the price disparity, well, all I can say there is that my original information was either wrong or they had some MBAs do more research into what the fees are that people would be willing to pay for each resort category.

Anyway, I still believe resort fees are coming down the road. So there’s something for you to look forward to.
I think the pricing has been very fluid. I was told different (higher) numbers earlier this week.

I’d be interested in how they are going to police this. Seriously doubtful that security is going to check every individual car every night, every resort. Heck on Halloween we were told we didn’t have to move car when we parked at Poly for our Kona ADR before Halloween party! We specifically said we were planning on going to the party too.

Scan your magic band/vehicle tag on the way in and out... pretty simple really. Car parks where we live are done on scanning the vehicle number plate all the time..

I save up my Chase Disney Visa rewards for years so I can stay at a Deluxe instead of a Value. Now, I'm just going to blow all my savings... ON PARKING... at a hotel that's already over priced!?!?! Bonk that! I'm done! It's "off campus" for me from now on. And I NEVER thought I'd say that.

With all the complaints here, I would suspect Disney to do something else! If you oppose this new fee, YOU NEED TO CALL OR SEND AN EMAIL expressing your displeasure! THERE IS STRENGTH IN NUMBERS>>>WE CAN CHANGE THIS! Petition writers anyone!? Someone needs to write and online petition that we can click on and then have the results sent to WDW!

Why not organize a protest or march?!
