That’s gonna be a tough sell for the players. Those guys are spoiled. I wonder if they would consider the four seasons for this? I know when teams play in Houston they usually stay at the four seasons there. I’ve stayed there a few times and seen the players come and go. They even have some rooms with larger beds for the guys who are 7 footers.
Let's see - stay at the All-Star resorts and get my millions in salary or just forget the rest of the season and not get paid? I think the All-Stars look just fine. haha

I really don't think the NBA will have any affect on the theme parks. It's not like the players are going to be wondering around the parks in-between games. They are going to fly on a private jet to the resort (probably one of the All-Stars) where they will hole up. They will bus to a practice facility or bus to a game. They will then bus back to the resort. Food will be brought to them. Eat, sleep and rinse the next day. They will be exposed to as little people as possible outside of their own team and the team they are playing that day.

Disney will have to figure out how to deal with the people who had reservations at the resort selected. There won't be anyone staying there except for the people associated with the league.
I think they will do alot of shuffling people to different resorts in order to manage transportation and guest flow into the parks. I'm sure they will allow you the option to cancel without penalty if you can't stay at your booked resort, again helping to knock down the numbers some at the beginning.

Or they still get paid and finish the season but stay somewhere a little more high end. These guys don’t think like you and I. They are spoiled and used to getting their way. I’d get in my car and start driving right now if the All Stars were open.

Four Seasons - 444 rooms with 68 suites. That's not enough. All-Star Movies and Sports - 1,920 rooms each. That's the kind of space they need to house everyone.

The rumblings have been that they would use Grand Destino and if needed Riviera
I feel like CSR would be ideal. A couple thousand rooms. Mix of various accommodations. Convention space could be utililized for support, broadcasting, practice, etc. Plus it’s completely isolated and does not connect to any other resort, park, dvc, or transit system that could be problematic when guest operations begin to resume.

I’m not saying Four Seasons for sure just that it’s a better fit for the players. 30 teams, 13 players on the bench plus 4 coaches. 17 X 30 = 510 guys that need high end rooms. The training staff, officials, tv people etc can stay anywhere. I would assume if they do this at Disney they would potentially split up into multiple locations anyway. These guys would be living on site in hotel rooms for a few months at least. They aren’t going to be real happy crammed into 260 square foot rooms. Just my opinion.

Do they have any suites there? The rooms are bigger with bigger bathrooms. Could be a better fit. AKL would work too. Removed from everything. The only problem is the DVC rooms are probably fully booked.

The training staff, officials, TV people - they all have to stay in the same place. They are trying to create a bubble so they will know exactly who each person has been in contact with in case someone tests positive. If people are staying at different locations it opens up whole new possibilities of who they could have been exposed to with the virus. Now, I'm just guessing the All-Stars based on what I've heard on national sports talk radio, but regardless of which place it is, I feel pretty certain they will all be at the same place.

The other reason I'm thinking the All-Stars is I'm guessing the money the NBA will pay for those accomodations will be many moons above what they can get from the public, and Disney needs to recoup as much of their losses as they can right now.

They have some suites and gran destino has added a more interesting assortment of options.

The DVC really makes AKL an impossibility. If it’s safe to operate the resort it really has to be available to the owners. Plus it doesn’t have the convention space that I think would beneficial in this situation.

Yeah, that could be. In fact it always made more sense to me that they would do trials in the parks first before filling up the resorts with guests.

Agreed. Never understood the resorts before parks thing. Why would people travel to Florida to stay at a WDW resort with parks closed?

Anything is possible I guess. The bubble concept won’t really be possible for months at a time though. The guys in the league have kids and wives and at least a few of them are dating Kardashians ;). They aren’t just going to give up seeing their families, wives and girlfriends for a few months. Plus the hotel staff will not be staying on site. I thought the main reason for playing all the games in one spot was more to avoid air travel and also to avoid traveling to/from hot spots like NYC or Detroit.

5th gate? Just build a new resort Bob.
I'm not sure what that means for the portions of Disney in Osceola county.
The parks were ordered to remain closed by the Governor, not the counties. Neither county has issued any guidance to the parks to remain closed, only the state has done that.

The Governor said that he wanted the OC Task Force and Mayor to approve plans before they come to him.

An analogy is maybe a CEO asking a consulting firm to create a reorg plan for his company - the consultant has no actual power because the CEO can do whatever he wants with the plan, but since the CEO asked them for advice their recommendations will probably carry a lot of weight.

The Mayor has no power in-law here. But the Governor wants him to approve plans first so the Governor doesn’t waste time looking at bad plans, so the Mayor has this de facto power.

Osceola County was not given any de facto powers, Orange County is reviewing on behalf of the state.

It is and that's why I can see Disney not opening til they are done.

No
To answer the question to when WDW will be opened to guests and that is taking into the many restrictions that will be in place I suppose, I think by sometime in August they will have some of the parks opened to a reduced amount of guests.

I don't think there's any chance WDW would delay reopening for several months just to host sporting events that they can't even sell tickets to.

It wouldn't be too hard to take a resort complex like Coronado and lock it down to NBA personnel only who must be tested whenever they decide to leave the campus on their own accord.

I think it's wise for Universal to go first as their guests are not as crazy as Disney.

City Walk had a smooth opening with minimal guests not wearing masks while Disney had a family grilling their own food in Disney Springs on their first day. By night I saw 50% not obeying the mask rule and those CMs in yellow were not even doing their job.

Universal for better or worse is also not as much of an international destination as Disney. They are generally the "add on" destination for people who fly to Florida for Disney. With so many travel restrictions, including a continued advisory from the CDC advising US citizens not to travel domestically for non-essential reasons, it is still hard to operate a resort where 90% of their guests come from out of state.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they let the MLS and NBA do their thing with no parks and just open nearly everything (no capacity restrictions, no social distancing, nighttime spectaculars, parties/food and wine, etc) the Tuesday after Labor Day. (Martin and other brits that’s the first Monday in September.)

Fine by me. I'm flying out on September 5th and that Tuesday was going to be my first Disney day. Might be a bit busy, mind.

You do realize the virus isn't just going away, right? These restrictions will basically be sticking around until there's an ample therapeutic or some kind of vaccine.
