Which park do you like better and why:shrug:

Disneyland!!!

I've been to Magic Kingdom over 100 times over the past 3 years and Disneyland only once. It has a much more intimate feel to it. There's a different aura that you feel. There's more rides, more detail, smaller walkways. All of the rides that we share between the parks are usually longer and have more detail as well. And the people in SoCal are much more laid back and friendly to the point where you can sit on the ground to watch a parade and not worry about people invading your personal space or little kids using you as a jungle jim.

We were watching this new DVD they sell at WDW entitled Imagineering The Magic, which by the way is excellent! Literally, every higher up personel at Disney and/or CM's that have been there since the beginning of both parks, agree that the MK is far superior to Disneyland. Having never been to DL, I can't judge, but I did find it interesting to hear what these people thought.

They're biased. MK has many many shortfalls. Mk does not know how to utilize space the same way DL does.

and of course they won't comment on the people that attend the parks. I'm telling you the crowds are so much more pleasant at DL!

I would think they'd be biased towards DL, as most of them were friends with Walt or the Disney's. The opinion just seems to be that the MK is a Disneyland done better. Walt disliked many things about DL, and those were all fixed with the MK.

The thread asked a preference between WDW and DLR, and so far everyone has only compared MK to DL.

I'm going to jump on that bandwagon and only compare MK to DL. On an individual attraction level, most of Disneyland's attractions blow MK's out of the box.

Examples....
Pirates - twice as long and awesome as MK's
Haunted Mansion - annual Nightmare overlay
Small World - longer, better, and annual Christmas overlay
Autopia - so much better than the Indy Speedway it's not even funny
Space Mountain - unbelievably better at DL, plus the Halloween overlay!

Then as far as "lands" go, Fantasyland at DL is a real, true fantasyland with tons more attractions than MK and it's beautiful. Toontown at DL is phenomenal...the attention to detail and theming are on par with Marvel Superhero Island at Islands of Adventure.

DL has tons more attractions than MK, with things like Indiana Jones (one of the best rides Disney has ever built), Finding Nemo Submarines, Mr. Toad, Pinocchio, Columbia, etc.

As someone else said, the GUESTS at Disneyland are even better than at WDW. After my first trip to DL, the main thing that hit me was how NICE everyone was. People don't generally fight over spots for parades and fireworks (even though it's tight as toast at DL), there's very few issues with strollers and ECVs like there are in Florida. People just behave like human beings instead of animals.

But then if you compare the resorts as a whole....Disneyland Resort to Walt Disney World....Walt Disney World wins due to the sheer size of the place and unlimited options for entertainment.

Eh...actually Walt didn't really care about MK all that much, and since he was preoccupied with EPCOT and then ended up dying, MK got a lot of mediocrity as a result.

I would agree with this statement to an extent. He is quoted to saying something along the lines of everything we didn't have room to do at Disneyland we will have all of that and more out at Disney World. Magic Kingdom was his "gateway" to get people to come to the Florida park so he could infact build EPCOT. Making MK better than DL was not his priority.

Tough to say. I love DL. It's the park I've been to the most. I do think DL is better than MK in WDW. Plus it's a lot easier/cheaper for us to visit DL.

There is so much to do in WDW though. I love the variety in parks, waterparks, hotels and restuarants.

Not sure that I would choose one clear cut winner over the other. I enjoy visiting both place and feel lucky that I've had the chance to visit each park as many time as I have to this point.

What I've always been told is I would very much enjoy Disneyland Park, but I will be disappointed in Disneyland Resort by comparison with WDW.

One thing I've read a few times online is that MK was superior to DL when it opened. It had more size (still the case), but also seemed to get the better end of attractions that were in both parks...generic Submarine Voyage became a longer 20K, Mr. Toad was a better ride than at DL, etc.

DL fans were jealous of the Florida park and felt like it was getting all the attention, while nothing ever improved at DL! Times change.

The title just said WDW and DL. I figured she was talking about just Disneyland Park and since its not really fair to compare the one park to all of WDW, I assumed she meant MK and DL. I don't know what the OP actually meant.

California Adventure is quite a nice park. Even pre-expansion and face-lift. We enjoyed both parks very much. The hotels and DTD areas are the only places that need alittle work...

I love them both for numerous reasons.

DLR: I grew up in that park. I have tons of childhood memories going to that park. It will always feel like "home" to me. IMHO, DLR is much better then MK.

WDW: While DLR is a better park then MK, there are a few things that MK has that DLR doesn't. It doesn't have a Cinderella's Castle, and more Character Dining restaurants you can eat at. Even though DLR has DCA (for the most part, it's a beautiful park, but not much structure--and they're refurbishing the entire park), WDW three more amusement parks, a much better DTD district, two water parks, DQ, and much more.

I have been to both places but it's been so long ago. When we went to Disneyland they didn't even have the other theme park built yet but they had just started building it. We been to Disney World a few times one with kids and one without. We did Disneyland without kids. Our kids are 8,5,and 1. They loved Disney World specially Magic Kingdom and Epcot. The cost to go to WDW is actually cheaper than going to Disneyland and the resort was cheaper. Does the other theme park at Disneyland have pretty much all the rides that Epcot has because our family really likes Epcot, well the kids get bored walking through the countries but for the most part everything we really like is at Magic Kingdom and Epcot.

The thing though, is Disneyland doesn't need a "resort". It's located in the midst of hundreds of vacation destinations. No one (other than a die hard Disney fan) vacationing to So Cal would want to spend their entire vacation just in Disneyland. They would most likely also want to spend time at the beaches, LA, San Diego, and so on.

Resort to resort, I adored DLR and didn't feel the least bit disappointed by it. But that's probably going to be the exception. I feel like the size of the place actually works in its favor now that Harbor Blvd. isn't the hideous, intrusive neon jungle it was in Walt's day.

As most (not all) agree, DL Park smashes MK. You also have a little of the flavor of the other 3 parks spread out across DL and DCA (DHS particularly has some version of just about everything worth seeing there)...plus DTD to walk around and hang out in. And it's all within a 5-minute walk of each other, so no hanging around bus stops. Honestly, if DLR had some place set aside for science and culture similar to Epcot, I'd say it has it all over WDW. :D

You can't really compare it to Epcot. A better comparison would be to Disney Studios....imagine Disney Studios if it was actually a GREAT park...and then you have DCA. They both have Tower of Terror, Muppets, Playhouse Disney, an Animation area (*laughs at WDW's attempt*), Midway Mania, and so on. DCA also has the same Soarin' as Epcot and the same Tough to be a Bug as Animal Kingdom.

No. Soarin' is there, but that's about it, Epcot-wise. Nothing comparable to Spaceship Earth or World Showcase is at DLR, unfortunately.
