Of course we all would love for WDW to be open 24/7.

How well do you think business would be? The world does operate 24/7 now and there are ALOT of people that are night owls.

It would never work. When would they do maintainence? When would they rehearse for shows?

Well, just like any other 24 hr place, certain sections/attractions would close at a certain time for maintainence.

ie: if Haunted Mansion needed maintainence, then at 12:00 they would close it to do their work, and re open it the next morning.

Yet the problem with this is... the maintainence schedule would run into the daylight hours and many things would not get cleaned up. You'd have to close main street at some point to effectively sweep it up or do any kind of touch-up painting. If daily cleanup runs longer... then some of the magic of the park is lost when people come in and still see maintenance people sweeping the walks and repairs.

I think 24/7 would ruin the magic... who wants to watch them replant plants, paint, restock items or just other general mantinance. Yes you do have some of it now but i can only imagine the work force that is done at night. I have seen some videos of the maintinance done at night and it would be impossible to do it on a spread out time.

Pretty sure they do a wash down at all the Parks at night. Can you hear the complaints when they would have to shut down a section at a time to do a wash down (even if they curtailed the number they did it wouldn't work). And if they stopped the wash down completely the parks would soon look dirty.

Not to mention the cost of manning the parks for a third shift. The little extra revenue would doubtfully be recouped during those times.

Disney's not too shy about their innate desire to reach into your wallet and take every last dollar in exchange for their "once in a lifetime memories" (remember, you're allowed to harshly judge that which you love. :D ) If the suits that run WDW thought they could turn in a profit by having the parks open 24/7, they'd do it. As it is, they supposedly lose money by having the park stay open for extra magic hours, but it's a loss-leader, and they use it as an incentive to get people to stay in WDW resorts and do more eating and shopping on-property.

A theme park like WDW isn't exactly the same thing as a 24-hour supermarket or pharmacy or diner or drive-in movie theater. ALL the attractions and restaurants & theaters and kiosks need time and (I would think) a large staff of people to make sure everything is up and running for the next day. It's not like there's a list for maintenance that says

1-2: Clean up Tomorrowland
2-2:45-Toontown
2:45-3:30-Fantasyland
and so on. There's stuff that is getting done in all of the lands, all of the time. I would guess that overnight cleanup is run almost like a military operation, to ensure things are done on time. And having tourists in the park is bound to get in the way of that operation. I'm sure, as extensive as the underground tunnels are, they need the walkways overnight to get people and items where they need to go.

In short, I'm sure the time that it takes to adequately clean and prepare the parks are already factored in to the schedules, especially when it comes to peak times where extra mgic hours might mean that there's only 4 hours or so to do everything. Having it open 24/7 means that visitors are constantly exposed to the nuts-and-bolts side of the business, where the "magic" such as it is, is lost. No grand ceremony to announce the opening each day. More security to make sure an all-night WDW doesn't attract the wrong kind of element (or that tempers frayed by being up all night doesn't wind up into fights). It's all far more trouble than it's worth, and I'm sure, if WDW thought there was an upside to being open 24/7 they'd have done it by now. Sorry to whizz on your parade, but it sure doesn't sound logical, or magical, to me.

There wouldn't be large sums of people in the parks during the wee hours of the morning anyway, say 3 - 5 a.m. , so most maintenence can be done then. I'm being partially imaginative, but if Disney really wanted this to happen for any reason at all, I'm sure they could.

All theme park attractions MUST undergo a 4 hour inspection before being premitted to open the next day, having one area closed for 4 hours would not be a wise decision. And main street could take forever to clean, then where would you enter the MK?

The Tech. crew also has much to do at night, as well as other crews who are painting, washing, polishing, and repairing. It would not be such a good idea.

Plus, what would stop people from just staying in the parks? If they bought a 1-day ticket, technically they could just stick around forever.

People on different time zones that just flew in, besides, 3:30 is a really cool time to see how some onstage maitnance magic happens! But really, PI doesn't close until 1 or 2 am, so it could very well be returning guests.

I think it might be a great idea on occasion. Maybe periodically have a magical all-nighter. However I do agree all the maintenance, even if it still went on strategically, would be difficult to perform.

One thing no-one has mentioned is that they may just get too many complaints from guests about the maintenance spoiling their enjoyment of the park.

Imagine standing in line for Peter Pan's Magic Flight and having to trudge through a bunch of puddles because water is suddenly gushing out of the sides of the buildings to wash down the streets. This actually happened to me during some previously unscheduled extra magic hours. I guess even though they decided to exted the 10pm EMH to 1am they didn't want to reprogram some of the automated stuff. So at midnight water came pouring out into the streets all around. It was a dry day. I thought is was great fun to see some of what happened after dark, but I saw more than one sour puss because their shoes and feet got wet.

Having some special real late EMH is good enough for me.

It would be really nice if they would stay open 24/7, but I doubt that will ever happen.

They could instead have extended EMH evenings that run until 5am or so. The park could then stay closed until 9 or 10 the next morning.
That would be cool.
