I was on a cruise last week (had a great time) that was headed for Bermuda, BUT a hurricane is a hurricane and that was cancelled and they re-routed. As a result, one of those new port days excitedly brought me to WDW!!! I had not been since October 2008 and craving to go back soon, so it all worked out great that we were given the opportunity to go. Unfortunately due to time constraints, we only had around 6 hours to do what we wanted and show some around who had never been, so we stuck to resort visiting and Downtown Disney over the Parks.
Now as much as I love it there and always will, I've been going there my whole life since the 80's, for the first time it also made me kinda sad. Not in a good way. Yes, it is still "magical", but what I was viewing was not the Disney I knew even back in 2008.
Those "little" details that make all the difference seemed gone. Grand Floridian had overgrown plants and weeds all in the front. This is a FLAGSHIP resort. The front Parking area looked abandoned and a wreck. Inside had a complete lack of fresh flowers, far less than I have ever seen before, almost none at all. A few other resorts we went too also did not seem to be up to par in their usual tip top shape, notably animal Kingdom Lodge.
Downtown Disney, while I know work is going on, I just seemed like a complete mess and not in order. World of Disney seemed to have removed many props, most shockingly the awesome URSULA statue in the jewellery area coming through the glass. The pets section had been removed and it just seemed like the same merchandise cluttered and jammed over and over again into every corner possible. By the remarks of some of the cast members working, they also did not seem all too thrilled with how things were looking and were just shaiking their heads. Even Days of Christmas, it almost looked like parts were ransacked. Garlands were a mess....hanging, drooping....even patially on the floor. The other half looked to just be missing all the holiday cheer and theming, hardly any decor.
The monorail system…..oooh that poor monorail system. What in the world is happening here? As if it wasn't bad enough that the rubber trim on the doors were hanging off and dangling on the inside, I could rarely hear the famous recordings as it kept being interrupted with how the monorail does not run its usual hours anymore.
I wont go on much more, but to go there unexpectedly and see it in a condition I NEVER thought I'd ever see, just really left me sad and wondering what the hell happened and really took me by surprise. Maybe I'm overreacting and sorry if I am, but it just really hit me to see it in a condition I never thought pssible. I was not expecting it to be this bad. I always defend how perfect it is.
Hopefully, this is not the case and I just caught WDW at the wrong time. However, I see many on here talking about it, especially lately and with all the apparent malfunctioned attractions. More now then ever before. But usually I always shrug it off as I have never noticed it enough to impact me. I only wish had had more time there than 6 hours so I could really see more of its current shape. We were planning a trip there next September or October, but now I'm wondering if maybe that is just too soon…..!
