I remember when the MK would simply be open until 1AM throughout the summer, and you didn't need to pay for an extra ticket on top of your ticket to ride any ride as often as you wished after the last fireworks.

And MGM to midnight and Epcot to 11...

My pic is not a photo of a map I own, but from the interwebz. E-ride Nights lasted from 1997 to 2004, so from that period.

I couldn't remember how long past 2001 it went. 2004 seems long, but you're probably right. Just seems like after 9/11 they got rid of all the perks. Remember when there was no "early entry" at all, and they thought sending a bus of characters to each hotel would make up for it?

Alien Encounter closed in 2003, so 2003 or earlier.
Wait, no Carpets, so 2001 or earlier.

Now to find something that opened during the 1997-2001 period, and we can date the map.
Hmm...Martin's map offers Buzz, mine doesn't. Maybe Buzz wasn't around yet. This would date my map all the way to 1998 or 1997, so the first year of E-ride Nights. And earlier than Martin's map. Unless Buzz was later taken of the roster. (When the newness wore off and guests discovered Buzz sucks?)

Marni's map also doesn't offer Pirates, and mine does. But I have no idea why or when this change happened. Assuming my map is older, E-Ride Nights may have been subject to the decline by degrees management style of WDW - Pirates was at one point replaced by Buzz.

Characters also declined by degrees. In the earlier map, they are present in FL and TL, absent in Martin's map. Tsk.

I was fortunate enough to go for a week and was able to do two nights in one stay. I don't remember which, but some rides were swapped out. One constant is that FL was not open.

I remember e-ride nights. I fact, I still ocassionally call EMH e-ride nights!

I don't think they're identical at all, actually. I've become so used to Extra Magic Hour the posts of the old E-Ride maps reminded me just how few attractions were actually open. In comparison almost everything is open for EMH now.

This is quite incorrect. You obviously have not experienced both E-Ride night AND EMH.

E-Ride Night had a fixed number of tickets sold, and was only for the MK. The place was almost literally empty.

Now, it happens at all parks (except AK at night) and is open to ALL guests staying at on-property hotels. Getting to stay on and ride something over and over is extremely rare these days. I've experienced EMH at all times of the year, and the shortest line has been no shorter than a long Fastpass wait. With E-Ride, you entered a queue and didn't stop walking until you were at the load gate.
