WDI Layoffs

On a smaller level I guess, the Disney store is in the middle of a bit of a reorg. And some did get let go here at well. Although not related to parks, they got rid of some of the extra layers of magament they found unnecessary.

Bet it was middle-management. They're usually the first to go. You know, the glue that holds everything together. :(

Walt Disney World will become Disney IP World

That is kinda a slap in the face if he won't stay around long enough to see AK land open. :(

You guys are exemplifying everything that's wrong with WDI culture and why this is necessary.

Fans treat WDI like rock stars so WDI starts thinking they're rock stars, acting like rock starts, and demanding to be treated like rock stars. That's a problem. Disney was fine before Joe Rohde and Disney will be fine after Joe Rohde.

I know when my company has made redundancies there is normally a 24-48 hour 'embargo' about talking about it publicly so that everyone can be notified if they are on holiday, off sick etc. so they hear it first hand and can seek any personal support they require before it is public knowledge.

I think a statement would help clear up any rumour and stop peoples jobs being gossiped about.

HE PROMISED TO FIX THE YETI. THE YETI REMAINS BROKEN. THIS IS NOT OKAY.

It would be kind of shocking if Joe is out especially after the GotG announcement (as people have stated). For someone as high up as him, I think it would be an "early retirement" (retire or we're firing you) situation so he can leave on his own accord and kind of on his own terms.

I met Joe once randomly at Coronado Springs. He was extremely nice and seemed very appreciative of fans of Disney and his work. It was the sincerity in his voice that really surprised me. Not a semblance of arrogance or cockiness to him (when I met him at least).

Lets face facts - do you really need someone like a Rohde to slap a hatchet job on the Tower? Thats like asking if you want to be punched in the face or kicked in the **** - end result is gonna hurt either way.

Politely disagree.

It's giving recognition for someone who has added many positives to the company and AK over the years. I think we're allowed to be a bit devastated over this.

Remember the outrage when Mr Baxter ...departed from WDI? Some of us (ok, a lot) are still peeved over it.

I don't have a problem with the fan reaction. I'm using the fan reaction to shed light on some of the problems that have existed within WDI for years. Many folks within WDI have adopted a mentality that they're the elite of the elite and they're above such petty things as "budgets" and "operational viability."

Let's face it the Disney we grew up with is DEAD, To be replaced with cheap merchandising of the current 'hot' IP, future projects will look like The (Failure To) Launch Bay, Just cheap set dressing done by contractors out of LA, Imagineering to create immersive environments is now considered 'wasteful excess'.

But in my knowledge of failed companies Disney is now on stage 2 'Firing the people responsible for your product pipeline' at this point Disney is now on the path to inevitable extinction.

Congratulations on an all-time terrible post, even by your lofty standards.
