Waterparks in January

Has anybody been to the water parks in January? We're debating on whether or not to get the water park option. Thanks & sorry if this question has already been posted before.

I think it depends a lot on where you're coming from. We go from Ottawa and love the water parks in late January/February. The water is heated, but depending on the temps at home, you may or may not find it cool when you get out.

it just depends. We've had some years where it was 80 and we were at water parks in December and January and other years where we were in scarves and gloves (and we're from Illinois and used to the cold). The weather is very unpredictable at that time of year.

Also, they usually have one of the water parks closed at that time for refurbishment at that time, don't they? I think I remember the last couple times we were down there one of them was not open.

According to Disneys main website both water parks with be closed for refurb from January to April. But going to the water parks in the winter months isn't really fun. While being in the water is kind of warm as soon as you step out you are freezing. I remember going once and it wasn't all that fun.

I'm not sure where you're looking but I don't see that. The schedule I see shows at least one water park open at all times.

I know that you can change and add things once you arrive at WDW. I wonder if this holds true for the "water parks & more" feature on the MYW tickets. If it does, why not wait until you get there, see what the weather forcasts are like for that week, and then add it if you think you'll use it. I've been in January/February 4 times now. I've got pics of us in shorts and t-shirts and also layered with sweatshirts and jackets. Temps can swing from one extreme to another overnight. I wouldn't want to spend the money if I wasn't going to use it.

We've been to the water parks every single January that we have gone, which is many. There is always one day at least, or more, that is plenty nice enough to visit the water parks. Sure it can be a little cool in the earlier and later hours, but it is still tons of fun and worth doing. Honestly, we just went this last August for the first time, and I enjoyed the parks LESS in the ridiculous heat than when it is just pleasant. You're sweaty and the sand sticks and is too hot to walk on....just ick. I would not pass up going unless you know you are the kind of person who hates to get even the slightest chill. And for anyone who didn't know, the toddler play area is heated even higher than the rest of the park, so hang out in that water if you get cold. :)

One park is always open and one park is always closed Jan-Mar. I've never been to WDW in January, but coming from South Carolina, I'm thinking it's probably a little cool. On the other hand, I have visited inlaws nearby on Christmas Day and it's been 80. But I've also been there when it was 50.

According to Disney's website, TL is closed for refurb from 1/1/08-1/5/08 and BB is closed from 1/6/08-1/31/08 for refurb. Living in Fl all my life, I'll tell you Jan. is usually the coldest month of the year and I'd die outside in my bathing suit......but like I said I've lived in Fl all my life!

We went in january once right when they were crossing over the rehabs. So the first week we went to bb and the 2nd tl. It was a couple years ago but we still enjoyed it. It was warm enough, the water was just right and we kept warm enough scampering around.

The only thing to watch out for is the shark tank. The water is kept cool on purpose and the kids were freezing when they got out.

I went to BB last January (TL was closed). I thought it was fine, a little chilly when in a queue but generally ok. My GF found it to cold though.

I dont think its the kind of thing you can plan for, if it looks like it will be a nice day then go.

:ROFLOL:Ah, spoken like a true Canadian! I use to go to the corner store in shorts and sandals in the middle of winter up here and no one would even bat an eye. Anything above 30 is balmy up here around that time of year.
