Water: Should I buy it, ship it, or use fountains?

All of my previous stays I have always bought my water with snack credits. This year I would actually like to try some snacks with my credits so I am looking for some advice on what other people do to get their drinking water during their stay. I really do not like how the tap water tastes. I was thinking of bringing an extra suitcase and filling it with a case of water. Do you think that would be under the weight restrictions for the plane? I don’t mind paying the $10 to check the bag, but I do not want to pay over weight fees. Is there something better that I could do? Suggestions please.

There is a grocery store very close by. We pass it on our way in. Its near those off property resorts near DTD. You don't really want to pay for an overweight fee on an airplane...can be up to $50.00.

I have to say the tap water in Florida is nasty!:hurl: The weight limit on baggage is 50 pounds (I think) so a case of water will not be over the weight limit ( just to be sure, buy a case and weigh it at home if you own a scale.) I know that you can buy a personal water bottle with a filter, I think Brita makes one and I have heard these bottles work quite well at Disney. I hope this helps.

You could buy the bigger bottles of water at the resort and then fill up your own water bottle in the morning - we do this!

You could also order water from a site like gardengrocer.com and have it delivered to your resort!

I do not like the taste of Florida water either and it does not "agree" with us as well!

I couldn't find one on the Brita site but, I did find a site called purewater2go.com and it has a personal water bottle with a filter it is a 20 oz bottle and the filter is in the sport top. It comes in a blue or black cap and it is $7.95 . The site says the filter is good for approx 2 months, which is about 40 gallons of water.

Thank you for such quick replies. NewieFan how does shipping from gardengrocer.com work? Do they need a room number? Can I do this before I arrive or do I have to order after I arrive?

Mousebymarriage the water bottle idea with a filter is a good idea too. I was thinking about this until I saw these on target.com and they had some pretty negative reviews so it kind of made me nervous. The last thing I want is a leaking water bottle in my purse. This was the biggest complaint of the filtered bottles so I do not know. Have you had any experience with a particular brand that has been good?

At gardengrocer.com I believe you place your order and schedule a day and time for it to arrive before you leave home. I believe you have to be there to pick it up. Not sure if they deliver it to your room or just to the lobby/luggage area. I'd think your room since a lot of things you can order from there are parishable. You can find out more by going ot their website. It cost $10 to deliver up to $199, after that, it's free. I'd recommend buying a couple gallons of water and maybe just one case of bottled water and just refill it yourself. You can also purchase lots of other things you may need, whether it be baby items, snacks, drinks, steaks or whatever!

Those are the ones we use and they're great. They take that nasty Florida taste out of the water  And my boyfriend carries them in his pockets and he's never complained about them leaking.

I take a refillable water bottle. I fill it up with tap water (I've never found it to be nasty ) and use those Kool-Aid and lemonade single packets to add flavoring.

Just to add onto what's already been said... I don't think you "have" to be there. They leave it with the front desk and yes the front desk does have a fridge for your perishables! I think they give you a time frame in which they will be dropping your items off so if you want to be there to get it, you won't have to wait around all day for them!

We have done brought our own, bought in the parks and have tried the fountains, but the best solution is to get a filter bottle as its cheaper in the long run

Ditto. More eco friendly and cost effective. I used to have a Brita bottle with a filter and that worked well too, I just don't know if they make them anymore? If they did I would be tempted to use one again.

We used Garden Grocer last trip. You don't have to be there when they deliver. They leave your groceries with Bell Services and you can either go and get the groceries yourself or have Bell Services bring them up to your room (which is what we did). Oh and when Garden Grocer does deliver your groceries to the hotel they will call you to let you know it has been delivered. I thought Garden Grocer was wonderful!

Last time we were there, we shipped a case of water from Costco. Worked out great, but was glad I kept the tracking numbers. I'm not a member, and I think it was 7 or just under 7 including shipping. Totally will do that again!

Those Brita and Brita-type bottles with the filter inside of them others have discussed? You may be able to find them at your local supermarket or Target store. It's where we found ours, and use them all the time. It also results in far less waste than buying many bottles of water.

Another possibility, if you can't locatethe portable bottles, is to buy one of the Brita pitchers and bring it with you/ship it to you. Filter your water in your room, fill up your own water bottles to bring with you each day.

Many, but not all of the fountains in all 4 parks are now filtered AND ice cold. It's a hit or miss situation. Some are still nasty and warm. Once you find their locations, just fill your bottles there. No nasty taste, and ice cold. The exact location of one at Epcot is to the left of the main entrance as you approach the turnstiles, between the Restrooms and the Cast Only entrance door. There is usually a Security CM standing there.

Yeah, go to the grocery store. You could get 24 packs for 3.99......Get to the grocery near DTD and keep em in your room. You can even buy a styrofoam ice chest for about 5 bucks and ice to keep them in. Much cheaper than shipping them and way cheaper than buying them or using those valuable snack credits.......Buy em at a store..

I would not drink out of a water fountain. I am a germ-a-phobe and no way do i touch those things.

We always go in August so alot of water is needed. I agree that the water from the fountains tastes nasty so we buy water bottles with filters before we leave to go down. They are like 16.00 and its a bottle with a filter built in so we can refill them at the fountains or put ice in them and it takes all the nasty taste completely out. The water tasted fine using them. I think its called waterfilters.net that we used and it has been a big moneysaver.
