A friend just got back and mentioned that her neice and nephew (14 and 16) wanted to go rent the water mice on the 7 seas lagoon...(after accedent)
The CM said that the rules had changed and now you must be at least 16 and have a driver's liscense to opperate by yourself!

is this official...or was my firend lied to?
is it only the 7 seas lagoon or all resorts...

I read on another site that the same happened to another family!
tried to do research on this site...but had no luck?

Wow, I hope that isn't true. I'm 18 but I don't have a driver's license (I'm just going for my learner's permit today). That would suck majorly. I never had a problem driving the water mice and that's a lot different than driving a car (it's easier, I'm sure; the car scares me).

 I hope this isn't true!!

I heard about this on another thread (the one about the recent crash), so it's probably true.

maelstrom: I carted around a learner's permit for years, and in many cases, was able to use it as a "license" in situations where I was asked for one (other than driving, of course). It might just be because my state really doesn't make them look too different, but you might be able to rent a water mouse with a learner's.

if you want a license, swing by the Florida DMV before you go to WDW... they're notorious for exchanging out of state/country learners permits for full licenses... :lookaroun :zipit:

Good luck on your permit test. When you take the driving test do it it Middletown NOT Goshen. (its easier)

Personally I'm glad they tightened up the rules for these, I've seen too many kids out there by themselves who were in over their heads.

The florida DMV hmmm? What city would that be in?

Yes, this is true!!! You must have a valid drivers license to operate Sea Raycers or Watermouse boats. Not even a certificate to operate watercraft is sufficient. :(

WOW...I guess that has its +/-

I think that decision, though a safer one, will hurt the money intake...but what can you do!

GO TERRIERS! :D

Frankly, I'm shocked that this is a change in policy. I would have thought that you would have always required some sort of license to operate a motored watercraft before Disney would let you rent one. It seems to me they've made the right decision belatedly.

Its probably a good idea. I'm also surprised there wasn't more strict guidelines on who can drive a boat before an accident happened.

I'm ticked off about this. Maybe if I hadn't been able to drive it in December when I was 17 and didn't have even a permit, I would've been okay with this. But now I'm just ticked off. I'm going to WDW at the end of May and there is no way I'll have a driver's license by then. And posessing a driver's license does not mean you know how to drive a boat any better than those who don't.. heck, having a driver's license doesn't even mean you drive a car that well. :fork:

Mad- thanks. I passed my permit test (got 18/20 correct). So now I can learn how to drive.

Please don't take this the wrong way but:
1. You're over 18
2. You have more than a month before your trip
3. It's not that hard to pass the drivers test (shoot, you got 18/20 on the learners, the actual driving test isn't vary hard)

So, my advice would be to get out there and spend the next 2-3 weeks sharpening up for the driver's test.

Good luck.

I don't know how to drive at all. I've never been behind the wheel of a car. And I'm terrified of learning to drive.

Just curious if you are 17 with a driver's liscense do you have to have a parent sign something like a waiver? If so is there a way to be able to have it faxed, then have my parent sign it and fax it back if this is the case?

My family and I rented Water Mice from the Wildnerness Lodge on March 13th....maybe this was before the rule change??? Anyway, my brother is 16 and only has his restricted permit thing, and he got to ride by himself. The sign said you had to be over 12 and taller than "this line".......I guess they've changed it since then, as this is all new to me. Good then we went when we did.
