Water mice rules?!?

This is a GREAT idea and i find it scary 12 year olds could operate these boats the same as anyone else. When you are in the boats there are many blind spots and some of the kids Ive seen out there are downright negligent. Congrats to disney for finially doing something that isnt motivated by the bottom line but actually makes sense. If a kid wants to use the mice he can ride with his parents and if youre 16, 17 and don't have your license you should have more things to be frustrated about besides not being able to drive a boat in WDW.

I know this is going to be unpopular, but I'm kind of glad. I remember the first time I went these things (I was almost 30) I was shocked that they gave them to kids. I am surprised that there has not been more accidents.

Now when I was 16, I am sure I wouldn't have felt this way. And for all you teenagers that are about to flame me, "Respect your elders!!"

I'm a teenager, but I'm not really mad about that. If I knew that other teenagers were driving those things, I would not go anywhere near the water. Do NOT trust any teenagers with something like that. Some may be responsible, but others can kill you doing something like that. :lookaroun

WOW, we went last year and my 5 year old wanted to drive SOOOO bad. She was told she isn't old enough. I figured the cut off would be around 7-8 w/an adult in the boat with you. Guess we won't be doing the Water Mice for another decade. She has no interest in riding, she wants to drive. Before I get a responsibility lecutre -- she would be just fine at it. She wins whenever we play Waveracer on Gamecube.

I don't know how to drive at all. I've never been behind the wheel of a car. And I'm terrified of learning to drive.

Not what you're going to want to hear - but that is something you're going to just have to get over.

I was in the same boat. I got my learners years before I got my full liscense. I ended up starting at college down in Sarasota (live in Tampa) and had to drive there daily. I literally got my liscense on friday, drove with my family once down to the school, and then started driving on my own, down i-75, daily. Was terrified. I got over it though.

Oh, and i failed my driving test the first time. I backed out of a space perfectly, but the guy wanted me to go the other way (i misheard him) and so when I was paniced and trying to go back in and out the other way quickly I flattened a poor innocent cone.

I went home, I cried a lot, and then I took the test again the next morning with a woman who told me "good, you saw the school zone, check plus for you, now go faster, there's no kids" and was passed in no time flat.

Think of it this way - get the liscense and you can goto WDW much more often.

Please don't take this the wrong way but:
1. You're over 18
2. You have more than a month before your trip
3. It's not that hard to pass the drivers test (shoot, you got 18/20 on the learners, the actual driving test isn't vary hard)

So, my advice would be to get out there and spend the next 2-3 weeks sharpening up for the driver's test.

Good luck.
It isn't that easy.:fork:

I have autism. I got my permit at 16. Following therapy, I got my license in February at age 21.

But you want to drive a boat? Something that is much harder to stop and control. Boats aren't the best at cornering. A remember most lakes are a free-for-all. There are no lanes marked, no signals and no brake lights.

I was surprised to learn that you didn't need a license. In my opinion, the new rules are good. At least someone who has a driver's license has some basic knowledge of the rules of the road. They should be able to apply that to the Water Mice.

Jimbo!! :ROFLOL:

I was wondering where this "accident" had happened that it didn't have 3 or 4 threads devoted to it right now  :lookaroun

Me too.

Also seeing maelstrom's post about being 18 years old with 'looking forward to a fiesta margarita" in her sig caused me a bit of confusion there for a minute.

HAHAHAHA.:ROFLOL:

I was about to help Maelstrom out, too, but it looks like they got their license before I even took my test. From the mention of Middletown and Goshen, I'm guessing we wer ein the same area, and was going to suggest taking the driving test in Fishkill, which was incredibly easy.

yes this is true, I forget the story on why this happend something with 2 boats I believe (correct me if I am wrong ) it's pretty much a safey issue so you can't take Disney to court. I am 22 and they always ask to see my licence and I have been going to disney for 6 years now every year I rent one and take pics of the resorts and what not. and they hold your licence till you are done. Your kids can rent them if a licenced adult goes with them but I do not know if they can drive it ( I do not have any kids ).

And that goes for all places on Disney that you can rent Mouse boats.

I don't think kids can drive AT ALL. Don't know why if I'm with the kid, but whatever... It's not like there is THAT much traffic on those lakes ever.
