I heard somewhere that most of the fountains were deactivated due to the water shortage and then removed/filled in when new water measures were put into place by FL. That's why you only see fountains at MK gone/filled in yet all, if not most, of the Epcot fountains are still in place.

The lost fountains occurred in the 90's long after EPCOT was opened. The excuse may be true but the reality is they cheaped out on taking care of these fountains to save a buck. Modern fountains have a pool pump and filter system and use only a limited amount of water. My guess is they didn't want to spend the money back in the cheap-o Eisner days to upgrade to a modern system. My optimist side says they are waiting for an Adventureland overhaul to fix the fountains.

ALSO none of the fountains are filled in! All the plants are in pots sitting in the fountains

Was this fountain here before?

Yes this fountain has been there since the 70's just outside Exhibition Hall/Old Disney Story. Currently it's behind walls during the building of the Mickey/Minnie meet and greet. Soooo. Today's status is unknown until the area reopens.

Great shot!!!

Does anyone remember when the outer Spitting Camel's head used to turn left and right making it kind of random, where and when it would spit?

Did you know the camels are recycled from an old Aladdin parade float.

Here's another recent image. I've never seen this area of the park before. Has the fountain always been dry?

Sorry I've personally only checked on the Adventureland fountains. It's been like forever since I was in that Exhibition Hall area.

those tomorrow land fountains look absolutally amazing. why they got rid of them is beyond me! even just leaving the structures in place would look better than the rocks now.

and i was wondering where all the fountains had gone. i wonder if it had anything to do with the risk of 'drowning' or something stupid.

The sturctures looked quite forlorn without water. They were switched off originally due to spray and the hub bridge becoming slippery.

The most frequent reason given, especially for the Adventureland fountains was to conserve water. The older fountains constantly drew new water and the rest went down the drain. New fountains operate similar to pools with pumps, filters and chlorine in a closed loop. They only draw fresh water when needed. For some reason there was never money budgeted to rebuild the 6-7 fountains in Adventureland.

The Tomorrowland fountains used to have blue tiled side wing falls. Unfortunately these were the maintenance nightmare, algae build up, loose tiles and they used to drip onto the walkway to the current TLand Terrace and the exit to the current Stitch ride. The main tall towers aren't the big problem.

Don't forget we still have the Muppet fountain! And it finally got a refurbishment to return it to it's former glory with the spinning features back in action! It looks AWESOME when it's working!

Not a tree hugger, but fresh water has been an issue in the southeast. Georgia, Florida, and I think Alabama are battling over water rights. Georgia was storing water during the last drought and Florida was hurting.

The Alabama/Georgia/Florida water issue would not affect Orlando. It is all about metro Atlanta holding back water in Lake Lanier for drinking water (and the good people of Atlanta to water their yards and wash their cars) and not letting enough water through the dam to keep the Chattahoochee river flowing enough to supply cities, towns, and communities enough water to survive. This is also about ecological damage done to the flora and fauna of Alabama and the Florida panhandle.

Another fountain bites the dust

The fountain in the side garden at Expo Hall is flower filled. After an extensive facility remodel the fountain found no love and has been stuffed with flowers. Very sad.

The flower filled fountain in the courtyard at El Pirata also was not restored during another extensive remodel.
