Was Magic Kingdom's POTC damaged by the movie refurb?

Oh! I'm a maniac now. Wow, you people are hilarious!

Jesus christ. I'm sorry I used the "r word" to explain what's actually happening in your favorite ride. Did you never realize what pirates do with women they steal from towns they're pillaging? Haha! Wow! Amazing!

By the way: the ghosts in Haunted Mansion are meant to be dead people who died. Sorry if that's a shock too!
It's not depicting rape though. That's a leap you have to make.

However, if we are going to use that logic, then I'm glad they removed Maelstrom. Vikings weren't exactly Avon ladies.

I'm only one person.

It's not what's happening. It's what you interpret as happening off stage. Which to me is nutso.

I'm sure you have some convoluted theories on the grotesque fates they must have suffered off stage in order to end up dead and on stage.

Not really. It's about buying a bride. You can take it to that far if you want, but if you did that with every scene across WDW, you end up with some pretty morbid messages.

Have you ever considered you just look too far into things instead of enjoying them for what they are?

Because it's not the same thing you maniac. Holy moly.
It is the same. That's why its not called hiring a servant. It's a forced marriage and in most parts of the world a forced marriage is considered a sex crime. Forced sexual activity being the primary purpose is what separates a purchased bride from a slave. Just because the rape itself is not depicted does not make being aware of the obvious implication ridiculous.

Their fates are nicely detailed on the gravestones out front and in the ride itself, which is wonderfully gruesome. No theories necessary!

I think it's adorable that you think pirates are stealing women so that they can have a pizza party off stage or something. Sorry to bring historical reality into a ride about pirate pillaging :)
Are we riding through a documentary about the real pirates of the Caribbean?

Or is it a somewhat campy ride through a movie set style pirates story?

You are imagining things happening between robots, off stage, when no one else is around. That doesn't seem wacky to you?

It kind of does make it ridiculous.

In the tone and spirit of the ride itself can you really say the ride and that scene is indicating immanent off stage rape?

You make it sound like you think I'm writing adult fan-fic about AA pirate rape or something. I'm not imagining things happening between robots. I'm telling you what parts of the story of the ride are explicitly about, but if you want to pretend there isn't actually a Bride Auction in the ride, or that it didn't once depict pirates chasing women to steal them, that's fine. No problem. The ride is supposed to be cartoony and campy, which is why they toned down the dialog and action in those scenes, and I understand that.

"Take a Wench for a Bride" Taking has connotations of rape. Buying a bride is all about rape. Kidnapping women during a pillage, as referenced in the song, is about rape. The whole point of introducing the food was to try to imply a different motive. There is no other meaning to buying a bride. It is a master-slave relationship focused around nonconsentual sexual acts, the so-called "wifely duties." Then there is the desired Redhead, a long standing stereotype being that redheads are sexually promiscuous, who is lifting her skirt and showing some leg.

Um... Ok... Soooooo.... :bored:

I sure do love that mist curtain projection.

I saw it years ago at a haunted-attraction trade show (I was on a production team).

The company that makes these even had touch-reactive screens and they were hella-expensive. $$$$ only the the big parks could afford to spend at the time.

I wish these touch reactive and 3D projection screens would be on display in innoventions at Epcot - because it's so "futuristic" and all...

Wow, okay. You are super serious about this. I'd laugh if it wasn't so sad.

You are reading too much into it. Again, if you took every scene at WDW to it's logic conclusion and divorced it from the fantasy aspect that is an inherent given then WDW is an extremely morbid place.

^^^ yes the most offensive thing at WDW are the moonshine-swiggin' alcoholic singing bears that employ cub-slave labor just to entertain us. They are SO "he-haw" redneck... They are probably racist bears. ;)

...and Belle - don't get me started on that psycho. She has Stolkholm Syndrome and is into beastiality. She's freakin' nuts. o_O

You keep trying to paint this as some sort of drawn out progression, but once again, there is only ONE meaning to buying a bride. Morbid undertones are nothing new or unusual to Disney. You know the Ghost Host suggests the audience commit suicide, right?

What progression? You're the one that is continually asserting something is happen off stage.

I'm saying take the scene for what it is in the context and the place that it is presented. You are the one extending the scene beyond the confines of the ride. You are the one drawing out the progression of events.

The dialogue of purchasing a bride is right there in the scene. That act alone is a sex crime, no progression needed.
