I almost went during that time, but then we decided on October instead due to the fact it's still pretty hot (and still hurricane season, as we all know well) in September. What was it like that day? I did hear that the Red Cross began having blood drives in the hotels soon afterward.

I was there the following week.
It was surreal.
Soldiers armed with M-16's at all the airports.
The parks were almost empty.
Almost everyone had on an I Love America T -Shirt.

My friend and I went to Universal the days after - we had planned the weekend out beforehand.

We were seemingly the only Americans in the park, which the friendly folks working there kept reminding us. "Oh, wow, you're American." because everyone else was a foreign tourist and very few spoke english.

There are (maybe were, I don't know if they are still around) a few members that were there. They closed the parks after the events started, I think around 10:45, so that day there wasn't much to see, in the parks anyway.

Just as a sidenote, it's still hurricane season in October as well.

We were there less than 2 weeks after.

Probably the most empty I've EVER seen the parks...we walked on to every ride and never had to wait for anything...like has been said there were more people wearing America shirts than weren't.

I was working at MK that day... I was given the option of not coming in to work, but I did, and we were shifted to the resorts to provide entertainment there.

We in NJ where the family and I are located, could see more than we would ever want to , but, the state paper ran a story about what happened at least in MK, during the morning the music suddenly changed to alert the CM's that something had happened, and to start shutting down the park, some kind of classical music that you would not normally hear. The guests would not know what was going on, but it would keep the calm and everyone could be escorted out of the parks without any hysteria, and in an orderly fashion.

My aunt, uncle, and cousin were there that day. They said everyone was sent to their hotels, and the staf did their best to keep them entertained. They weren't able to get home for a week after they were susposed to because it was hard to get a flight.

I was there that week. On Sept 11th, we were at the Animal Kingdom. I remember waiting for the tram from the parking lot right at the time the first plane hit. At that time there was alot of confusion as to what was going on. People were on cel phones taking about a small plane that hit the tower and that a bomb went off. The park remained open at that time and we went over to the safari. I didn't have a cel phone with me at the time so I had no idea what was going on. When the safari was over, it was clear something bad happened as we were told the park was closed. Disney did everything they could to ease the tensions of the guests. Everyone was given park passes to be used at anytime when we left the parks. Everything on property was shut down including the AMC movie theaters, and shops in Downtown Disney. The cast members did a great job at the resorts trying to comfort the adults and keep the kids busy. They had games and character greets in the lobbies of the resorts. Once it became clear of what happened, we noticed that Disney wasted no time in stepping up security. Even though I had the resort ID on my car I still had to show personal ID in order for them to check on my reservation every time I drove back to the resort. My wife and I drove off property and went into Kissimmee. The police were everywhere, and people were in shock. It was my worst time at Disney, one I will never forget, even the magic of Disney could not stop that horror from entering it's gates. After the parks reopened Florida had a tropical storm to deal with. Getting back home sucked as well. I stood in line for 3hrs for security. I am not that good at story telling so I am sorry that it may be vague. Anyways, I have been back 3 times since with another trip in April 2006 because it still is the best place to escape from everyday life.

I was there also.

We were staying at the poly and was headed for Blizzard Beach. It was warm and sunny. It wasn't until we got to the bus stop that we heard the news (9:45am) Once we got to the water park and was comfortable on the lazy river We heard an announcement. " Due to the incodents occuring earlier today we are closing blizzard beach until further notice". we packed up and sat at the bus stop for about 1 1/2 hours for our bus.

Everything was closed and there was no bus transportation anywhere.

Thank you for the post. Can you please use the default color in the future? It makes it easier to read.

i bet if you do a search you can find the threads that were around on that day... i know a lot of us were talking all day and sharing stories and making sure everyone was alright.

I think we also had accounts of what was going on down in *The World* that day.

At first, we all thought it was a fluke. I got a phone call from my friend right after the first plane hit telling me what was going on...I thought he was joking, then I turned on the TV just in time to watch the second plane hit live :(
scary day.

we were there 1 year after the event happened, being from england and seeing lots of horible things we realy felt for you americans. myself and my partner have been though it all inc the bomings of the london home show in which my partner was on the floor below when the bomb went off.

i have to say i thought the way the locals all came out to show american pride did make me look at the americans with big respect beacuse of the way you all stick together, but i also felt angry that the news in your country realy scared lots of your locals and the the visitors us inc at the time. myself and donna are strong belivers that if your times up its up but the news we felt encouredged people to dig them selves into there own graves.

we were at mgm on our last day and this was to be your first year to remember. there were flags everywhere and your american anthem was playing where ever we went especially when we went to beauty and the beast and everyone sung there guts out and cheared and claped at they end. To this day i will always remeber this

God bless all of you who lost your lives that day and may you also remember that some of us still might lose out lives for what we all belive in.
