I'm a local and I can understand the appeal.. There are plenty of medians with shrubs in Florida... There aren't many unique 3 dimensional billboards..

I get the appeal.I get people are sad to see it go But really to be saying this is going to ruin the magic of WDW is ridiculous. And actually Universal has had multiple 3d billboards on I4 thru the years. ET. King Kong etc.

I never said its going to ruin anyone's vacation. I simply implied the replacement for what was seemingly a cool promotion that was in good shape, is a let down.

Again, this is going to be replaced with shrubs...

Maybe this has to do with the rights $$$ Disney has to pay out to CBS for Twilight Zone? That’s one of the rumors for it’s expected reskin, to get away from having to pay $$ for the rights to “Twilight Zone”

What "expected reskin"?

And the rights to Twilight Zone are a drop in the bucket for a corporation like Disney. Chapek is a cheapass money-grubbing tool, but I don't think paying for the rights is much concern to him.

My guess is that the sign will be replaced by one hyping the Guardians of the Galaxy ride. But that's just a guess.

Anyway, this sucks.

As it was mentioned before, removal of special and unique things like this billboard add up after time and it's death of a thousand cuts. Some will scoff at others who feel sadness for the many little, special things that Disney has been taking away, but the decline is noticeable and sadly, there's more to come. I remember seeing this billboard for the very first time on our 1st family trip in 2002 with my twin 5 year olds and grandparents, driving in from the Chicagoland area and it was one of those special moments that signaled you had arrived. We all were taken back at the special details we were seeing as we made our way onto WDW property. There's just no room or tolerance in the budget that currently exists in the corporate mindset for that type of uniqueness in the WDW of today.
The dismissiveness as to the loss of these things is pretty egotistical too. There are tons of little things I never experienced and don’t have an emotional attachment to - like Yehaa Bob, Polynesian Aloha show, etc - that I can feel sad are/were gone because they meant so much to so many other people. “Boo hoo who cares about the loss of this sign/tv channel because it doesn’t matter to *me*” is a pretty juvenile and self-absorbed response and reaction to the loss of these things, especially when they are part of the overall nostalgic feel so many have to these parks.

it is when it's a competitor's product - and it won't be as easy as disney buying paramount like they did fox

A site which shall not be named noted that last month new pins for TOT omitted any reference to Twilight Zone, replacing it with a new, never to be seen before font. And the studios are developing a new IP based on/inspired by the ride. It’s clear they’re trying to get away from the Twilight Zone name

I also recall hearing on the Disney Dish podcast last year that the engines powering the elevators are reaching the end of their 30 year lifespan. Not sure if the phased closure of each side addressed that, but a hefty remake of the ride (removing TZ references) could be in the foreseeable future.

There's been rumblings that the Twilight Zone theme would get tossed for years. It's a tradition at this point. I read an article that The Jordan Peele series was going to cause the rights price to skyrocket and Disney would drop the license. After that series let's say underperformed people are looking at that Scarjo movie in the works.

Disney-MGM Studios was referred to as "Disney Studios" in various media because Disney didn't have the license to use the MGM name in those instances - did that mean a name change for the park was imminent? Only took 20 years!

Thx for the reply Sorry I wasn’t referring to you I was referring to other post on how this takes away from WDWs specialness in some way. Again it’s a sign an advert for a ride nothin more in my opinion. I am a lifetime local and I’ve seen a lot of changes at the parks. I was at the Magic Kingdom on opening day and have been a passholder all my life. Some changes I like some I don’t but come on be realistic things change and if they didn’t people would about that. WDW will always be special even if they change or delete signage.

I'm telling you, Universal is the place to be these days. I can't wait to eat at the Super Nintendo World Kinipio's Cafe when Epic Universe opens. I watched a video that explored the one in Japan - the decor AND the food looked amazing. And Volcano Bay is better than Blizzard Beach etc. any day of the week. Plus, there's Universal Monsters, How To Train Your Dragon, etc. coming up. I can't wait to see what Universal does with them.

As for WDW? We get to look forward to a classic ride being replaced with characters from a mediocre movie ("The Princess and the Frog" was not that great, frankly, aside from the "Almost There" scene, and the movie was an underachiever at the box office. We all know why it's being pushed as a replacement for Splash. And the reason is not a good reason).

So nuts to WDW until it's under better management (and I pray every day that happens, agnostic though I be). My next trip to Florida will be to Universal. I won't be setting foot on WDW property, even though there are new attractions I haven't experienced, because Chapek and his goons have turned me off completely on it. Just the idea of dealing with Lightning Lane and Genie Plus turns me off. Who needs the grief, the potential disappointment, the stress, and the expense?

Im currently sitting less than a mile from the construction site... There is already track in the ground for a couple attractions and it is so exciting!

This.....is rubbish..... can't wait for all the die hards to swoop in and defend disney by telling us how trivial this sign is and how it has zero impact on ones vacation so why should anyone care.

Stuff like this made disney unique and god there on a record pace to be as plain and normal as possible.
By itself it isn't going to ruin anyone's vacation, however, when you start to add up all the are no longers together it does start to be harmful to many of the memories of past guests but it appears that Disney is currently only looking for the one time, big spender guest and none of those will even know it existed.
