As much as people here complain about the hassle of park reservations at WDW, I think they are a huge deal breaker - especially being locked out when dates fill - at DLR and has lead to much softer than historical demand for APs there. of course the dynamics at DLR have always been dramatically different than WDW in regards to number of APs vs day guests/resort guests.

Don't forget, Annual Passholders won't need to have park reservations after 2pm starting April 18th (with the exception of Magic Kingdom on the weekends).

I believe they are expecting a slower than originally expected summer. Resuming AP sales are an easy lever to increase attendance. Not sure how long they can rely on this new mechanism.
I agree. The only problem I see is by Disney doing this they will eventually get back to the unfavorable mix they wanted to fix.

It’s tied to the overall economic climate. There is a rolling credit crisis expanding each day/

So we’ll see

I am glad Iger is around for this: he should be the one to see if all his “theories” about park customers are true

Hmmm…do yuh remember people “wondering out loud” on forums why their “free dining” was going up?…but then pivoting a second later?

And then like 7 years of begging for “fee dining”?

…you were saying?

It’s Merica…aren’t all commercial products marketed attempting to use gimmicks and misdirection?

Ok…guess we disagree. Want to talk about Star Wars instead? I’m so disappointed in Doc Brown today ☹️
Yeah, 'free dining', in most cases, was worse for the consumer than getting a discounted room. But people just love that word 'free'.

As for Doc Brown - I've seen enough Law and Order to know he... Because that was 95% a Law and Order episode.

Hmm. Maybe that new DVC membership program is coming?

Regarding restrictions, remember that APs will be able to enter most parks most days after 2pm without a reservation. Combined with fact that no park has been closed to hopping after 2pm, it's expected that APs are essentially free to roam unrestricted after 2pm, except MK on Saturday and Sundays. This begins April 18, two days before new sales resume. Imperfect compared to no reservations before 2pm, but it still gets APs most of the way there to pre-covid freedom.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but at all levels, NEW WDW APs have blackout dates.

The ONLY APs with no blackouts were folks who kept renewing their platinum passes throughout the pandemic closures.

I was thinking this was more for special events, but you may be correct. And I hope you aren't correct. If they really want to alienate a sizeable portion of DVC members, just implement some kind of paid "membership" program. Guaranteed to p**s a lot of DVC people off.

Anybody who kept an AP could switch to any level they wanted IIRC. I was plat through covid and moved down to sorcerer. Others in my party were gold and I could have renewed them as Incredipass or Sorcerer when their terms came up.

And I didn't think Incredipass had blackouts at WDW.

I am not a DVC owner but come on Disney, GIVE AN AP DISCOUNT TO DVC members!!!
These folks are literally invested in WDW!

Supposedly, “DVC Sorcerer” may also get its own park reservation allocation to ensure DVC members are able to visit the parks they want to. So, I guess you’d technically have a better shot at getting a reservation with Sorcerer than Incredipass in this scenario since they aren’t checking affiliation.

Yup. Blue Ocean my Lampwick. There is a reason they started selling AP in the first place, Iger sought to find the maximum amount of money he could extract from the consumer and found it.

The problem now is, the consumer has lost purchasing power over the last 2 years and can no longer afford what they used to. Couple that with the company cutting costs to the bone such that they know any further cuts will impact revenue further. Disney is now too costly for that family from Denver. Now Mr Iger needs to somehow explain to Wall Street why net revenue is about to fall in the park division and why they need to spend more cap ex in order to maintain that revenue. All at the same time that the studio is floundering and D+ is sinking under its weight.

New Blood is desperately needed.

I think the key to keeping "no blackouts" was to keep renewing?

Here's the DVC email since I didn't see it posted yet:

We’ve received a lot of Member feedback about one topic in particular: Annual Passes. We’ve been listening and understand that for many Members, Annual Passes enhance their Disney experience. Today I’m pleased to share great news with you: new sales of all Walt Disney World Resort Annual Passes will resume on April 20.

That alone is good news. But we have even better news to share. I don’t see why they don’t just lump them and anyone staying at a resort in the same bucket.
