We stayed @ Boardwalk w/DVC points in December…they emptied the trash every other day and cleaned once during the week. We’re not pigs and clean up after ourselves so it was fine.

Although it's pleasing to see something positive,

Let's not forget the elephant in the room,

Genie+ charging per person per ticket big bucks in the coffers- 1000 times what parking fees give them.

They needed a positive spin; this news is really the bottom feeder of all the "fees" they could give up, lesser of all evils.
At least you have a choice in paying for Genie+ or not.

I dont see how you can put that toothpaste back in the tube even if you wanted. turning it off entirely gives them new problems similar in magnitude to the current ones and also nets then no money. maybe If bookings get dire, they will start bundling it with deluxe non discounted reservations. if you even see something like that in the short to medium term, assume there is a 4 alarm fire at TDO.

Current state of Genie+- my question would be, are folks paying for it because it greatly enhances the ride experience? or do folks think they are obligated to pay for it in fear of waiting too long for ride times? I don't know, but I would love to hear your take. :)

Agreed

But-Harmonious failed on many levels, enough to where they pulled the plug on it's future.

IMO it's that guests feel obligated to buy it to avoid long lines.
Of course, folks will say this is wrong, too late, irrelevant etc., but in my opinion, this is a GREAT SIGN that Disney is trying to do better for their guests.
They are doing small things and it's good for PR, it doesn't fix Genie+ or the biggest issue in lack of capacity.

I don't think there is any disagreement that it is a great sign for Resort guests. But it also affects so little of the folks whom have ever used parking.

people are paying for it because they feel the have to in order to get a similar experience to what they once did with FP+ to later be frustrated with living in the phone, no way to plan your day (navigation/locations/etc) and playing the 7am lottery each day

They are addressing all of the short term issues plaguing the park.

Question is, will they continue to invest in the parks to improve and increase capacity? Probably not, Genie+ makes a boatload of money.

The theory behind it…is “it costs so much…I gotta keep paying”

In essence

I did expect them to do easy fixes for publicity:

The one they are likely itching to do but haven’t is a new pass/membership program…

But they can’t because the numbers won’t work…which is the “longterm” issue and they can’t fix it.

They need $10-$15,000,000,000 in expedited park investment - without fanfare - in the US. Which will increase operational costs drastically…just to handle what they’ve got.

Think that will fly?

I thought Disney only makes decisions on getting as much money as possible and doesn’t care at all about the guest experience. How can this be possible?

Oh I don't know... having the ceo ran out of town over the weekend by surprise seems like a pretty big disrupter...

My understanding is that he directed his Parks and Resorts team to present a list of potential changes that could be made to build goodwill among guests and he then approved the final set of updates. Today sees the first wave of changes since these could be implemented quickly. More to come.

THIS...

I'm sure it will mean more of the classic Disney "we'll just put the $$ into room and ticket increases" but nix'ing these nickle and dime kind of moves are easy customer sat wins they can take with speed and very little overhead.

And that at least shows a demonstrable difference in PR savvy between Iger and Slaphead…

…it’s also an indictment of why Iger should be fired - without much debate - for failing in his duty as ceo and retaining/allowing Slaphead to exist at TWDC

I do struggle to see how he thought Chapek was qualified. He obviously was not. Poor judgment call. Let’s see how take 2 goes…I presume the lady who called us all fat and stabbed Chapek in the back is the front runner. What could go wrong, there?

Chapek was better at his various jobs over time than she was/is

Well I’m just gonna say it until everyone believes it:
He never intended to retire…he got scared about the world shutting down and quit like a coward…chapek would have been pushed out.

My theory has the benefits of fitting all facts/events/reasonable adult thought patterns available

That’s the deal 🫢
