Walt Disney World Park Exclusive Books

It is a fantastic book. Best I've seen of its type for any park. Bought mine in 2002 at DLP and actually sat outside the Newport Bay to read instead of going to Disneyland Parc as planned!

I'd even consider buying the updated version as well.

Like I said, I'm on the fence about it. It seems like a really awesome book, and everyone I've talked to speaks very highly of it, I'm just not sure if I'm willing to spend $150 on a book.

You should ask Eddie Sotto on his WDWMagic thread what he thinks about the book. Eddie was the show-producer of Main Street at DLP, so he is probably the best person to tell you if the book is good or not...and if this collector's edition worth the 100€ price.

I just recieved an old copy of "Disney Wars' by James R Stewart. Can anyone give me a review of the book ? Should I put the time into reading it?

I just finished reading that one fairly recently and I enjoyed it quite a bit, good read. I really liked hearing the backstory on how some of the Disney films of that period got made, and some that they passed on, and things like that. Also great insight on people like Eisner and Katzenberg.

Thanks for the heads up! I saw this yesterday and am debating whether to purchase.

Alain seems very trustworthy, so I don't have an issue with placing a preorder with him, but my concerns are that they will receive 300 preorders in the first place and also that the book is still expensive at $150 (although worth it, I'm sure).

Despite what the website says, this book is not selling for $500-$1,300 on Amazon or eBay. Now, it's listed for those prices on eBay and Amazon, but actual completed auction prices on eBay for the last few months have been $190-255 shipped, with one outlier at $100 shipped (I think it was a under-priced buy-it-now). I mean, I could list the book for $300,000, but that doesn't mean it's worth $300,000.

I have the book and it is phenomenal, but I got it when it first came out and paid much less (can't recall off-hand what it was originally priced at).

I have no idea whether it would be worth $150 to you. But people spend that on pins ... and Duffy plush ... and all sorts of things that I think is akin to burning the cash.

I can say I love the book!:xmas:

You leave Duffy alone!

Oh, I have no reservations about the quality. Everyone with whom I've spoken who owns the book says it's the best Disney book they own--even better than Nickel Tour.

I'm just not sure that any book is worth $150 to me. Nickel Tour is the most expensive book I've ever purchased, and I paid around 1/3rd that price for it.

I don't buy either of those things (or anything directly from Disney, really, unless I can get a 40% off CM discount--even then I buy very little).

I did receive a most-excellent book today titled Gardens of Walt Disney World Resort from 1988. Features some really beautiful photography. Actually sad to flip through, though. Some much of the lush greenery and water features in the book are now gone!

I wouldn't say it's better than Nickel Tour (although to be fair I knew Bruce and a good friend was very close to David, so I may be biased a bit). But it is absolutely the best book ever put out on DLP (and as a photo guy, I think it would appeal to you even more because it lets the pics tell much of the story). ... But I didn't pay $150 for both books together ... so ...

Yep. I have that book somewhere (bought when it came out).

And one HUGE issue I have with WDW is all the greenery that has gone away ... and water features as well. MK is so much hotter and blander than it used to be because so many trees have been removed (no, you shouldn't see the castle towering over everything like it now does ... no, you shouldn't swelter in the Hub because people decided to put on a pyro show that has a few cheap projections on the castle etc).

But who wants to get negative on Boxing Day, right? :xmas:

I strangled a Duffy a few days ago (the large one) at a Disney outlet store ... man, did it make me feel good.:xmas:

Aww, man. I actually like Duffy. And pins. And vinylmation. Pretty much everything I'm not supposed to like as an informed, jaded Disney fanboi. :lookaroun

I'm just starting out my book collection, and it'd be really helpful as a reference if someone who has or knows of all the "must have" and rare Disney books could make up a checklist. I'd certainly appreciate it if done, and I'm sure many others would as well.

Just know that you are contributing to the Walmarting of the BRAND.

If you can handle that and still sleep at night, then all is well.:ROFLOL:

The closest you'll find, and sadly can't match the DLP Book, is 1996s Since the World Began.

Lousy, overrated publication.

I could have done soooo much better, but no one asked me (and back then everyone I knew at WDW either liked me or faked it!):D
