Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend

Excellent points.

Even before the announcement yesterday, it was hard to get a DVC room for the usual weekend for W&D, given the combination of both the 50th AND Food and Wine. And people trying to use their points.

My personal opinion? I don't think no early registration for APs/DVC/Golden Oak is permanent. I think they are trying to operate in the current climate of staffing and room availability. Most of the resorts will have re-opened several months before W&D. APs should be available again by then.

Not being able to obtain a bib except through runDisney unfortunately will hurt those charities that have a long standing relationship with rD. That I hate to see.
Club rD membership!
Just another thing for AP or DVC to buy.

Charities are a go for Marathon and Princess Weekend, it appears they are currently working on updating their information -the ones I've checked out for Marathon Weekend. Listed under the travel providers for Marathon and Princess have many charities to run and raise $$$ for.

That's good news. Hopefully rD will update their FAQ.

I got a bib for my son-in-law for the not-yet-cancelled 2020 W&D 5k through Give Kids the World. Would hate to see that organization not be able to raise funds for the children they serve.

I emailed AACR to run for them, they're listed as one (I've run for them before) and my contact said they are in the process of getting approval for entries and will have more information by next week.

Yeah hopefully they update the FAQ

Marathon and Princess are the two biggest race weekends. I think you'll find more hard core runners at Marathon as the Full is a qualifier for Boston. Princess is more fun and the 5K is HUGE.

If you really want to do Marathon weekend, make that your priority.
I changed our resort reservation today for Marathon weekend.

Goal is to run 10K with the DH and then run the Half or Full marathon for a charity.

I received an email from the team who runs the Hogwarts Running Club. They made it sound like they were already approved as a charity, but were only allotted a possible 250 bibs per weekend (not each race, the entire event 😳). They had a Google form set up to gauge interest and would find out how bibs they’ll actually receive from rD tomorrow or early next week. I’m not sure how many bibs is typical for a charity group, but that seemed rather low.

As much as Dopey is on my bucket list I don't think I'm going to do it this time around. I MAY sign up for the 5k or 10k in-person but we'll see. Also - I don't see the Castaway Cay challenge - is that not happening this year?

It's currently not listed. Could be waiting to see what happens with DCL this fall.

runDisney took down the charities and their site links for the races.
I suppose after approval they'll put the list up... maybe even after the charities have reached out to their repeat runners.

Between not doing Dopey and this. I'm canceling my cruise for January

I'm not. If my cruise in September gets cancelled, I'll need the one in January to hit Platinum. I've had 6 cruises cancelled since March of 2020.

Not a huge surprise. Heck, when I did the full for GKTW 5 or so years ago, I think there were 4 runners that day. And when you consider that there is normally what, 10-20 different organizations, that has the potential of being 2,500 - 5,000 bibs just for charities (spitballing numbers here, don't have a screenshot handy of past charities). I'd imagine the number allocated differs if it's a small charity vs say TnT, but still. That ends up being alot of charity runners.

That’s very true, good point! I tend to think of a group the size of TnT when I picture the charity teams, but there are so many smaller (but still amazing) groups participating.
