More evidence they'll be limiting bibs for the 1st year back. No TA or charity bibs, no early registration for DVC or APs.

Hey, at least races are back! It’ll be crazy for the first few events and will settle after. If you followed the trends in 17 and 18, spots were pretty easy to get. I hope that those who want to race will be able to. From the looks of the rest of the endurance world, races are happening ( NYC, Chicago, Ironman events, etc).

It’s true, I’m really only concerned about the 2021-2022 year. I remember there still being openings for Star Wars the week leading up to the event (possibly even at the Expo?) in 2018 or 2019. Trends were running downward prior to the shutdown.

I’m just thankful I don’t run Princess - that’s a whole other level of crazy!

I remember that. Sadly, that race declined in popularity over the years.

Princess registration will be a nightmare. Glad I decided to do the Platinum level. Didn't ever think it would really come in handy.

I'm hoping 🤞 that no early registration for APs/DVC and no TA bib packages is just a one off, until rD gets things back to pre-COVID normal.

So are we thinking Marathon Weekend will be easier to register than Princess?
I'm about to change my reservation for Marathon Weekend as I'm afraid not getting a bib for it.

Marathon and Princess are the two biggest race weekends. I think you'll find more hard core runners at Marathon as the Full is a qualifier for Boston. Princess is more fun and the 5K is HUGE.

If you really want to do Marathon weekend, make that your priority.

I'm sticking with my race plan, I'll skip Marathon 22 and do it 23.

Reservations are having a rough day today.

Having never registered for Princess and just going off what I’ve seen posted on social media, I think Marathon Weekend is easier *if* you’re not thinking of doing Dopey or the 5K. Those two I see as equal, since they are more limited in entries (with Dopey pulling spots from the standalone 5K).

I’ve seen years where they’ve split Goofy to add more half and marathon spots. Most people are either looking for a shorter distance to do something fun as a family, or are going “all-in” for Dopey.

I have done the full WDW Marathon twice and will be doing this one as well (my 11th full marathon overall). Can't wait. I have some family coming with me that want to run the 10K. I guess that one is going to be tough to get into?

So here is where I am in terms of this race weekend (will be doing a post for every weekend).

I am very happy to see they have added a virtual option. I find it weird they don’t have the designs for the individual races which makes it hard for me to decide what I want to register for in terms of events. I plan to register for at least one VIRTUAL event. Similar to Wine & Dine this could change depending on designs.

I think this race is out of the question in terms of in person for me. It’s probably wiser to wait it out a little more in the year for more additions to open. This can change though.

So do you only run the Full marathon or will you try to get a 10k too?

Im in doubt if I should even go for a marathon bib.

Princess is less likely for me, but W&D 2022 is stil a solid option to experience the 50th and get a C&C medal.

For the one's who have been following the 'what did you do' topic:I might have to take a possible +1 into account :)
Honestly, like I have said many times it really is between the Spring Surprise and Wine & Dine for me. If Spring Surprise is really parks themed I may think about that more strongly.

Waiting a little more into the year is also probably wise given the 50th additions.

Some very good points.

Not so sure if this means they are limiting bibs, but rather they don't anticipate having any issues selling them all out normally. TAs would be tough if resorts still aren't back at 100%, I can see that being a nightmare if a TA has a bib, but can't get a corresponding room or vice versa. And by lowering TA demand, Disney has to pay less commissions... (yes my tin foil hat is on) No charities is a bit more surprising as that doesn't hurt runDisney/WDW in any way, I'm pretty sure those bibs are still full valued, and if anything would wonder if runDisney loses a bit of money by not getting paid (prob a trivial amount) for the tents that some charities have. I'm assuming there is a cost involved with that as not all charities elect to have them.
And I'm surprised at the lack of DVC & AP early reg. It's not like there are many APs left. Unless they are concerned about DVC availability issues with so many people trying to use their points up.

Excellent points.

Even before the announcement yesterday, it was hard to get a DVC room for the usual weekend for W&D, given the combination of both the 50th AND Food and Wine. And people trying to use their points.

My personal opinion? I don't think no early registration for APs/DVC/Golden Oak is permanent. I think they are trying to operate in the current climate of staffing and room availability. Most of the resorts will have re-opened several months before W&D. APs should be available again by then.

Not being able to obtain a bib except through runDisney unfortunately will hurt those charities that have a long standing relationship with rD. That I hate to see.

Charities are a go for Marathon and Princess Weekend, it appears they are currently working on updating their information -the ones I've checked out for Marathon Weekend. Listed under the travel providers for Marathon and Princess have many charities to run and raise $$$ for.
