Walt Disney World Free Wi-Fi

I can't stand any form of tablet being used in the parks, people are becoming so arrogant with them, Muppet Vision 3D for example there was a couple a few rows in front of me just to the right with two tablets recording the entire film. Not even slightly discrete, not a single cast member said anything to them.

During fireworks and parades, the issue used to be people standing in front of you with kids on shoulders, now its look at me I have a tablet and I am going to show it off! Not thinking about the 30 people standing behind that have now been blocked out!

The amount of tablets that I see get smashed as well, they are not designed for a theme park, they have their use, I have a tablet myself, but a Theme Park is not one of them! Enjoy your selves people! Your on holiday.

When we were there this past summer we never had any issues with it at all. My Disney apps worked great in the parks and we never had problems in the resort. Hubby has an android and my son and I have iphones.

Just remembered, the only day we had issues was New Years Eve at Epcot, the Wifi had been completely saturated so we couldn't connect. Who knows how the system holds out when Next Gen rolls out and everyone will be using it.

While I do think its ridiculous that people use the iPads to take photos (they are terrible, they look like the photos we used to have in cameras 15 years ago, but I suppose they are good enough for Facebook which is what 95% of the users want), I do think you need to get used to it -- they are here to stay. You are not going to see them disappear from the parks, or anywhere else, anytime soon. They have become a part of people's entertainment experience -- and Disney even has apps directly on the iPad for use INSIDE the parks...as do most other theme parks now.

Though I have to agree that it annoys me no end when people record the shows, with ipads, iphones, blackberrys or anything else -- I do not think that any cast members remain inside the theater at most of the shows anymore -- they used to station one inside to deal with stuff like this, but I don't think they do anymore. Also, I don't think any cast member is going to jump in and tell anyone to stop anything as long as a) they are not using flash, and b) nobody has complained to them about it. What would you do for 8.35 an hour, get into a loud verbal hassle with a Brazillian in a crowded theater?

As to the parades -- you won't have to worry about that much longer -- once the reservation system for places to watch begins in the next few months via My Disney Experience, you will have other issues to deal with.

I am not a slave of my phone when I am on vacation. I don't take millions of pics and then stop every ten feet to post them online and tag my location. I am on vacation to enjoy it. Maybe I will post a pic at the end of an evening but not while I am in the middle of trying to enjoy myself. I think it is sad when some people are like that.

I remember being all excited about the free wifi...hoping to use all of the lines apps and other Disney tools. The free wifi was fine in the hotel, but we found it to be totally useless in the parks.

I had my phone (Android) and my iPod touch (since there are some apps that I couldn't find for my phone). I gave up on the iPod. It's normally great with WIFI, but not at WDW. I turned off the WDW wifi on my phone while in the parks as well since it worked so infrequently and would stop just when you needed it most.

I don't do tons of updates on Facebook or anything like that, but I used my phone enough to say that I was thankful for my data plan.

The only reason we use internet on the phones in the parks is for Skype IM and WhatsApp, coming from the UK it costs us a fortune to send a text message to each other for places / times to meet. Skype IM or WhatsApp is completely free, don't use it for much else as we are on holiday.
Now that makes complete sense.

I have seen too many that keep their face buried into their phone for so long that it has become their new reality.

On slower days there is no problem with the in park wifi, now on new years eve the network refused further connections and may have crashed for all I know. I tried it on other peak days and it worked but slow, so if you want to use the in park wifi rather than data the slower periods are for you. I would imagine this holiday season was the real stress test for them, not to mention new years eve.

My niece and I used our phones (Samsung Galaxy 3 and iPhone5) quite a bit Nov. 9-18. As Canadians, we pay the worst cell rates in the world, so we shut off our Roaming and used WiFi exclusively.
Reception was pretty good (for the most part) out in the open, but not so great deep within the bowels of some of the rides. It was best at the resort.
We had zero service at DTD, only to find out that the WiFi hadn't been rolled out there yet.

My experience with wifi (in my room with my laptop) was less than stellar but acceptable; it was definitely better with the old Ethernet cable plug-in (it replaced). If I'm not in my room, I don't do phones or any other devices (except a camera, sometimes); when I'm between park visits (during my stay on-site), I think that the internet connection should be top-notch and also the cable t.v. selection. I like my 'Parks' decompression time too.

I found myself falling into that trap. I was looking at half of my trips through an LCD screen. I have gotten to the point where I do not even bring anything greater than my phone into the parks.

At Pop I could only get a good signal at night after 10pm on my tablet. My ATT phone never got signal in my room. I had to walk to the front of the resort to use it. I was in the 50's building!

The other week it was hit or miss. We had times where we would only be able to maintain a connection for a few page loads, and other times where we would browse for hours with no issues. Experienced it on the hotel guest WiFi, public space WiFi, and the parks WiFi. Trying to scale out a system for that many people is a nightmare. Access points get saturated pretty fast, so you would need tons of infrastructure to support it.

This past week wifi worked well for us at AoA, which was nice since AT&T reception in our room (Nemo) was terrible unless I leaned out the window. I actually resorted to using FaceTime to talk to my wife who was back home. Netflix on my iPad worked great in the evenings before bed. In the parks it worked well on my iPhone, but would lose the connection every so often, but I was able to get back on quickly by hitting "renew lease" in the wifi settings on my iPhone.
