Walt Disney loses Winnie the pooh copyright case!

The $2 billion is money that is supposed owed to the parties involved over a number of years. It's not the amount that Disney would have to pay in order to secure Winnie the Pooh. Is Pooh worth that much? If disney loses..then apparently he was.

With the document shredding that occurred a couple years ago of Pooh financial documents it's very hard for anyone to prove what Pooh made over the course of years that this first came about. Problem for is, they can't prove that Pooh didn't make more since the documents now have gone the way of the garbage. The 2 billion may be an estimate...one that could hurt Disney very badly.

No...Disney still has the right to play with him...they, if they lose, will just have to pay royalties that were not paid to the partial owners...that's all.

They aren't trying to revoke Pooh from Disney, they are just trying to get what they are owed.

Thank you. You had me worried there, which is actually saying something because I don't really care for Pooh; it's just that he's been with the company for so long that to lose the case would mean they'd forfeit the franchise for good. Thanks for proving me wrong here, even though I'm not a big fan of the Pooh franchise.

Latest news story on this at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18028469/.

And as an FYI, the story HAS changed - "We will be proceeding in the federal court asking for money damages and asking that all the rights licensed to Disney by our clients be terminated," Slesinger attorney Barry Slotnick said Monday.

I would think that potentially, yes, the characters and any sign of them could be pulled from the parks if the family wins this case.....especially with recent developments. I can't say that I understand why Disney would walk away unless they have something that they know will win the case for them.

In any scenario it is going to be a long time before anything gets decided as this has been going on for a very, very long time now.

Not true. The company would simply need to pay the family more $$$

Just answer if Pooh will or will not be seen again at Disney?

The lawsuit wasn't over whether Disney has a write to make products or have Pooh and Co. be on display at Disney, it was about unpaid royalties. Disney is still allowed to do what they have been doing with Pooh.

Disney owes money to the people who own partial rights to the characters...just because they do doesn't mean that Disney can't continue to utilize the characters in it's themeparks. Just that they need to pay some people and pay a little more attention to how much Pooh makes (ie. not destroying documents regarding how much he makes....go figure on that one).

Another thing is...I don't think that their is anyone on this forum that can't honestly answer that question. I'm just telling you what the case was about...if someone, somewhere decides no more Pooh for Disney...then he gone, but I don't believe that anyone has that power to do. Disney has it's own pre-arranged deals with the other rights holders which does not actually have anything to do with this lawsuit.

Well, I hope you're right. I do hope that Pooh's existence at Disney is safe... which is acutally kind of ironic, considering that I myself don't care too much for Pooh. They do kinda tend to run this franchise into the ground sometimes.

What will become of everything Pooh?

I have heard of some plans of what Slesinger will do with Pooh:

Slesinger plans to win back the rights for Pooh, then transform The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh into a brand new thrill ride. In this new attraction only at WDW, Winnie the Pooh and friends team up with Chuck Norris and Mr.T to get Pooh's honey back from the Mafia, all while jammin to the music of The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Winnie the pooh is said to close on 4/1 2008, and the new attraction is said to open on 4/1 2009.
