Wall-E Living Character

I really like Wall-E, but I think the Living Characters initiative is a complete waste of time and money.

Foo.

This sounds a little short sighted to me... I would imagine that the technology they're learning and perfecting with the living character initiative can and will be used down the road for more permanent park applications (see Mr. Potato Head in TSM).

You've gotta walk before you can run.

If you're talking about what I posted, then yes as far as I know he's still going to be at WDW. I haven't heard anything else specific about dates, times etc. Hopefully they'll still Wall E out.

I don't know what you posted (which is odd, since I read all the threads you start since I like character news...maybe I just forgot?)...do you have a link?

Wall E's size would prove to be somewhat of an issue. He less than a foot tall to my understanding, so the Character Attendent will have to be very careful people don't trample him!

Yes but then again chi and dale are about 50 times their real size (but they're CM's)

CM's? Nah, it's Tinker Bell's pixie dust...she makes Chip and Dale bigger so we can interact with them and not step on them by mistake. I would think Tinker Bell would use her dust on Wall*E to make him bigger too. :animwink:

I really can not wait to meet wall-e. I would imagine Wall-e will be where Ratatouille was located with in the Animation Building. The only way I will be disapointed with meeting wall-e is if he is taller than my knee.

My understanding is the torso of Wall-E is about a square meter. If you watch the preview where he covers his eyes/camera with the bra, and assuming about 18 cm between the center of each cup, it works out that standing upright with eyes up, the eyes would be about 1.2 meters or between 3 1/2 to 4 feet tall. For a time our local cineplex had a standup of Wall-E that was apparently full sized and the above dimensions work out. Watch the latest trailer and look at him compared to know objects, like the fire extinguisher, shopping carts and the exit doors. Oooo, that was fun to figure! So, it should not be hard to build a full sized tracked Wall-E to interact with guest.

And one more about the voice - Ben Burtt, who designed the sound of and is considered the 'voice' of R2-D2 is also the artist behind the Wall-E vocalizations. He slyly referenced his upcoming work with Pixar at last years Star Wars Celebration in LA.

I hope this happens because I'm really psyched for Wall-e and would love to see the character around the same time I can see the film (mostly because I suspect I will want to hug him after, heck I want to now, hes so darn cute~)

They should really build a defense system in him. That way if a drunken excuse for a guest tries to get stupid with him, Wall-e can just cattle prod the offender, R2D2 style. ;)

Do they sell alcohol in DHS?

Some people don't need the excuse of drunkenness to get stupid...:lookaroun

I think the defence system is a great idea, and would like to see some stupid guests get what they deserve!! :ROFLOL:

Of course, it will never happen.

I'm interested to see it because I missed Lucky and the Mobile Labs as well but all in all I don't find these living characters to be that exciting....interesting concept but not my cup o' tea.

I heard he would be at Animation as well.
This causes me to pause and think about how they will do this character. If he is indeed a living Character he could need up to five or six operators. I know the Muppet Mobile labs had a ton of people that walked around with it to bring it to life. How is Disney going to hide these individuals if they don't have a large number of people gathered to watch Wall-E interact with guest. Even if Wall-E is nothing more than a "push" style robot they still need to conceal one operator which will be a challenge as I have seen the animation meet and greet with only two people around. However maybe this will change once they put VIP Mickey in there.

You could always move the Incredibles down the stairs, build a wall, and viola, instant control center with tinted windows for Wall E in the former Ratatouille spot.

It depends how things get re-arranged. VIP Mickey will likely go to the left of Voice Studio, with Wall E in Rat's old spot, and Incredibles either in thier current spot, in a room past Animation Academy, or perhaps even outside in that central courtyard.

Thats an idea however I feel it would be too much work for a temp. Character meet and greet. VIP Mickey's meet and greet is currently under construction to the left of Rat's space. It will be interesting to see this character. Maybe they will suprise us and have Wall-E outside in the animation courtyard.
