In three weeks we will be at Disney World. Yippee!!! My wife and I are taking our 5 year old daughter on her first trip to the parks. My daughter really wants to meet Mickey and the gang before we do anything else. I was thinking on our first day of going to the MK and heading right for Toontown Fair. Should we walk, keeping in mind she is only 5 with short legs, or should we take the train? Which would get us there faster?

at five years old i would say that its not a bad idea to rent a stroller for your child and just push her to toontown. Its faster than the train.

Take the Train!

Sure, it would be faster to walk but do you intend to visit the MK as a Fed Ex delivery person? Take your time and go slow. The heat, crowds and long waits in line are bad enough. Don't punish yourself and your family by "speed walking" through the MK.

My 5 year old wouldn't be caught dead in a stroller ... she's got a reputation to protect. ;)

The stroller is the way to go, it's especially helpful late in the day when little legs are getting tired. But if she doesn't go for riding in strollers, I would throw her up on your shoulders and give her a great view of Main Street and the Castle on the way to Mickey's Toontown. I'm excited for you. You'll have a great time. There's nothing like watching your kids experiencing Disney for the first time.

Definitely take the TRAIN. It takes about 15 minutes to get to ToonTown Fair by train from Main Street USA but your daughter won't be tired when you get there.

TAKE THE TRAIN!!!

It gives a great OVERVIEW of the park!!! And when you leave Toontown...hop the train back to Main Street and then start your day!

The train is more magical than walking through Fantasyland with all it's crying, screaming kids and grumpy parents...I'd rather listen to the "Colors of the Wind" and get an inside view of Splash Mountain. However, since it is your daughter's first trip, perhaps a trip through Cinderella Castle would be appropriate?

If this weren't a first trip I'd say take the train. But nothing beats the look on your child's face the first time that get a good look at the castle. That's one of my favorite Disney memories, and I'd hate for you to miss out on it by taking the train.

The train will give her a nice tour of the park and let her see the other things that the Magic Kingdom offers.

But aside from that you should definately get a stroller for her. Later in the day she will definately want one.

I would walk it the first time. As was stated in another post, you need to walk up Main Street to the Castle the first time to get that Disney feeling!!

Thanks for the replies. I think we are going to walk and then maybe take the train later since she wants to do that too.

Hey gjpjtj, I used to your neighbor(almost) I used to live in the Pocono Mountains. I sure miss it there.

If you arrive at park opening time or a few minutes before, there's no need to rush towards Toontown Fair. People will be hurrying to the mountains and other E-ticket attractions... less so to Toontown Fair.

You might be able to pick up a FastPass to an E-ticket along the way.

Magic Kingdom remains fairly quiet through most of the morning. When it gets busy around 2 or 3:00... that's maybe a good time for a midday break from the attractions.

...just to add to this, if I'm not mistaken, Toontown doesn't open until 10am...so let your daughter experience MainStreet USA with a horse/trolley ride, give her the experience of walking thru Cinderella Castle, go on the Pooh ride (no wait early in the morning) and maybe even do the Teacups (don't spin too much this early) and, by then, Toontown will be opening and you'll be right there at the entrance.

Also remember that Toontown opens at 10am (an hour after the park opens) so that means you can go do other things before heading to Toontown
