We have some GREAT photographers and I LOVE to see the pictures in the contests each week.

That's why I would like to see everyone back off Nibbs and quit complaining. I'll admit freely that I NEVER vote for a picture that wasn't posted correctly and I NEVER vote for a picture that I don't think fits the contest.

Bravo!

PS: I learned a lot from Photo Dave... I usually judge a photo by it's composition. Don Sullivan has a terrific eye for that. Laura's recent Adventureland photo was well composed and perfectly exposed. I think we have some "professional amateurs" in our group. There are a few photos in the most recent 'ride' contest that are top-notch photos. I don't know if I have a 'ride' photo that could compete but I'll submit one with the hopes of finishing third. And if I don't, there's always the next contest.

I agree with this post in that seeing the pictures from all these contests have taught me a lot. First, I learned I don't take nearly enough pictures of everything, overlooking such obvious things as the monorail . I also have made an effort to take better pictures, and have actually tried to learn all the features from my camera :hammer:

So with that rambling, nibs, sorry people have complained to you. It really shouldn't be a big deal so don't sweat it. If some people think this is all a popularity contest, well so be it. It's pretty pathetic that we have to keep reiterating that this is all for fun, but I guess you need to make the font bigger

Thanks nibs

I've placed in the top three more than I deserved and I would hate to think that other people think that the only reason why was because my friends voted for me and not my picture....of course, it may be presumptious of me to assume I have any friends at all.
Tramp, wasn't it you who took the incredible photo of Goofy playing the xylophone (sp?)? It was amazing!!!! Don't sell yourself short!!!!!

I have never entered one of the contests. Mainly because all of my pictures are about 7 or 8 years old and taken with an older film camera. The scanner I use is also old. SO my pictures look like crap on the computer....much better on the actual photo. I have really enjoyed voting in these contests, but get most of my enjoyment just from seeing the wonderful, inventive, creative, funny, or sentimental photos all of you take. I also get great ideas from photos on here. I always vote for the one I think is best. I guess what I am trying to say is, just let it be fun! I think Nibbles is trying to the best she can to please everyone. I, for one, am grateful she does this for us to enjoy. So, THANK YOU, NIBBLES!!!

Yep, I took that photo. Thank you, hon, for your kind words.

Some of the best photos ever taken were by sheer accident. Joe Rosenthal didn't even know he had a masterpiece when he took that photo of the Marines raising the flag on Iwo Jima. I wonder what the chances are of seeing that Goofy photo on the cover of TIME next week?

Wow.....

I am not sure if any of this really needed to be said....nibblesandbits was obviously just trying to point out an issue (which has been an issue since day 1) and she gets jumped on.

Whatever happened to turning the other cheek......if someone says something that you do not agree with, can you not just let it go? I guess in the American culture of self-entitlement, the attitude is "Don't you dare tell me what to do"

It is not as if nibbles is being paid to run these contests, and they are a lot of work.

The "contests" are a bit of fun. The key word is "fun". There's no prizes involved so it's pointless to get wound up over it.

Thanks for the work Nibs.

I think it's more of this should be a democracy instead of being dictated to. It takes everyone to make this contest successful not one person. Yes nibbles is coordinating the contest and should be commended for working so hard.

I know I have lost interest over the past few months. So Brad, I think it's okay for to people express themselves. Otherwise people will just disapear from the contest and noone knows why. The passion shows how much people enjoy the contest and want to be part of the decision making. You work with people, so you understand "Buy-in", being part of decision making, and acceptance from people is everything.

You don't have to like every idea Nibs has, but you should respect her for her efforts on your behalf.
I think she's doing an amazing job!

But you are not being dictated to......as no matter what Nibs says, you still have the ability to do as you please.

Oh lord what did I start...

The issue of NOT voting for the 'best' photo was NOT raised by her...it was raised by another member in another thread who admitted that he sometimes votes by name and not by photo.

OK, "another member" was me. Here's exactly what I said, so everyone is on the same page...

Regarding anonymity and favoritism: OK, I admit it, I vote by the names some times. Why? Because I want the non-regulars to have a chance too. There are some really good folks who basically live here, and many really creative and occasionally good visitors. I like to see new names in the top ranks, so I vote accordingly. It certainly cheers me up when my pictures get 2 or 3 votes. I've impressed someone, even if it wasn't nearly enough to make a top-3.

If I've stepped on anyones toes by admitting that, then for pity sake come yell at me, not at Nibbles. I've got a thick skin, and I'll feel free to ignore you without adding to her stress.

I vote for what I like. If a contest contains a single picture that makes me go "wow", then it gets my vote. If it contains 5 of them (and it often does), then I'm going to support newcomers over regulars. If no photos make me "wow", then I'm going to vote for whoever had the most creative presentation of the theme. That's my method. Deal with it. It's my interpretation, and my vote to do with as I please.

And I usually categorically deny my vote to: tigers, slow-shutter night shots, and cute babies, unless those are specific to the theme. They win enough contests on cute factor, I'd rather see more variety. Again, my opinion, my vote. You don't have to agree with me, and I don't have to agree with you.
