Hmmm... I'm still not getting the "Dropbox" idea... Maybe when I start playing, I'll get used to it. Thanks for the info!Just so everyone knows, there are things that will be different at least in the beginning. I've been keeping up with the forums and livestreams, so I'll share some info. Not all of this is confirmed, though, so keep that in mind.
- Rare items will be distributed via "dropboxes" or "crates." These crates will appear at random times in you inventory and will cost credits to open. You'll have a small % chance of getting super rare, a slightly better chance of getting rare, and a large chance of getting a non-rare item. This will keep item value while kick starting the economy ASAP.
- Not all games will be working when the game first opens on September 6, 2013. The Main Street Music Mixer is expected to be the only working game on Day 1. The other games should all come later.
- As of now, not all rooms are working 100%. Most of them are, but some still need some work. Open Beta does not mean the game has officially opened 100%, it just means you are allowed to start gameplay so that the developers can find bugs and glitches within the game.
- There will be items that were not in the original VMK. One example is the Angel Hat or Pink Stitch Hat.
- Holiday decorations for both Halloween and Christmas will be working. I don't know when each layout will start, but they have been confirmed to work.
- Holiday clothing and furniture will likely be released around their respective holiday. However, rare holiday items could be available via dropbox.
- There is currently no answer as to what items will be available to purchase on Day 1. I think it's safe to assume that all of the items that were purchasable normally in VMK will also be purchasable in OVMK. I would believe that they would release certain rare items for people to purchase in stores for a limited period of time.
- There will most likely be a limit on how many account each person can have. Limitations are not currently known, but they would like to make it so people can make dummy accounts in order to get richer faster. I believe each person will be allowed at least two account (one boy, one girl). How these account are restricted is unknown, but a limit of 2 per IP address has been talked about, but there are problems with people having more than one player per IP address.
Again, not all of this has been 100% confirmed. Just wanted to give everyone a bit of a rundown. If I think of anything else, or if any other news comes out I'll try to keep you posted.
This is an idea I had for Coke, that I think could work well in VMK as well. We don't know if we're going to do this or not. I'm just posting it to see if the people here like it. I'll be speaking as if it's been implemented already though, just ignore that!
Basically, the idea is ripping off TF2's drop system. Just by playing the game you get items. The better the quality of your playing (as in, the more things you do), the better the items you get. Sometimes you'll get credits as well. The items will be tradeable (unless the game thinks you're idling in which case you'll get the worst low value items imaginable that are untradable!).
In the drops there will also be crates, just like TF2. Not the crates VMK players are used to though. These crates can be opened to reveal a prize. To open them you need to spend a large amount of credits. You can get almost anything in these crates, from the rarest item in the game to the worst item in the game. Of course, there'll be a good chance of breaking even, and a good chance of getting something worse, but also a chance of profiting and getting something amazing.
This solves the issue of distributing rares into the game. A system like this can be controlled so I can tell it how much of a specific item to let out. It also gives people a reason to play more, and adds a kind of addictive aspect. You won't be able to get rare items in the drop system, those will come from the crates. Of course, staff will give out some rares and items as well, but most of them will come from this system if it's used.
So, what do you think?
EDIT: Should probably note the main point is to get rares into the game and to jump start the game economy. If we don't do something like this people will be waiting around for ages before anyone has an items. Of course, at first the drop system will be... enhanced, so better things drop and more often. There'll also be drop limits, so you'll only get a certain maximum number per week.
I guess that dropbox idea seems okay... I'm just excited for testing! Thanks againHere is what Amy (the only person actually creating the game) had to say about drop boxes:
Here is a picture of what the drop boxes will look like. They're the big boxes on the right side of the picture. Also in this picture you can see the Angel/pink stitch hat. Obviously some of these kinks have to be worked out yet (such as guys wearing girl clothes)
Lol I've noticed that registration hasn't opened yet. I hope it gets underway soon. Thanks again for the update! It was said that OVMK registration was going to open early this week, but that obviously hasn't happened. I don't know when it will be open, but I'm assuming tomorrow at the latest since it's only a day before it officially opens.
Oh and I can't remember if I said this or not, but it opens at 5PM Eastern time.
Bummer, I know! Hopefully it will be up and running for Beta testing tomorrow. I'll be waiting at 5:00Supposedly we can't sign up until tomorrow now. It'd be nice if they'd open it when they said they would.
So apparently they had a confusion with times zones with the opening. Amy (the person working on the game) lives in the UK, and there was a time zone mix up or something.
The game is planned to open at 6PM Eastern time now.
These guys really don't seem prepared to run this game. I hope they are prepared for the amount of people who will want on...
