VMK is back!?

Glitches should be kept to a minimum. Evidently, they brought in someone who knows how to reverse engineer the original game. Before, they were working from scratch in HTML5, which could have been a nightmare.

As for the game's legitimacy, it's being worked on. Whether a cease and desist letter will be sent their way, it's possible, but I'd bet that Disney ignores it. The media backlash that could come out of a cease and desist is probably not worth the gain of pretty much nothing that comes with closing the game down.

Meanwhile, Club Penguin remakes run rampant while the game could still be collecting subscription money...
What media backlash would there be?
I don't think VMK is well known outside the hardcore Disney fan base, so it's hard to believe Disney trying to protect their IP would make any waves at all.

Wouldn't be huge, but I'm sure the developers could get a hold of some media outlets. It wouldn't look great for Disney if people found out that they closed a fan-made tribute to a game they decided didn't matter anymore.

Meanwhile, there's very little that OVMK could do to damage Disney if it stays open.

Agreed, unless it gets big enough and they decide they want it. It should be considered a near certainty that they at the very least know of its existence. Story time: I work online and there was a guy in my social circle that was setting up a website to sell Disney Infinity toys. Within a week he had a cease and desist for trademark infringement (he was using a trademarked name in the domain and Disney logos/other materials on the site. We all warned him but he didn't listen). They're currently letting him rework the site as more of a community place, and will probably keep a close eye on him in the future.

We can't say with any certainty that the same type of thing is going on here; but it might be. Having an open source VMK gives Disney a ton of free publicity, and as long as their earnings aren't being eaten they have other legal battles to fight.

Now if only I could have all my old clothes and items back. I was downright rich in the game when it closed. :p
