MK Villains Land Announced for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

I doubt they have much to announce at this point.

I also think there's a good chance they're struggling with the design in terms of making something that's interesting and doesn't feel like it's essentially just a land from one specific movie (one of the reasons I don't think a Villains land is actually a good idea). They're probably not in position to show much because they don't really know what it's going to be yet.
FWIW, Moth seems to think the plan for Villains is close to being finalized and will be showed off officially at either Destination D23 or D23 2026.

Can anyone else see this getting canceled? The lack of further information on it and it being so far out form everything else makes me think it might not even happen.

It doesn’t feel very real yet.
Disney has almost never kept us up to date on how a new attraction is going.

Don't know why people think lack of info means the ride is in trouble.

All the rides temporarily and permanently paused due to the pandemic is not an indicator of widespread cuts in scope of announced projects. There is no pandemic now. At least, not yet.

This is the wrong way to think of this:

1. I want information.
2. And you're not giving me information.
3. WHAT ARE YOU HIDING!!!!?

Rather, it should be:

1. I want information.
2. We don't normally give out updates on project.
3. Oh. OK.

I can very much promise that it is still happening. As others have said there are still a lot of details to be decided upon but if what I’ve heard about the current plans is true then it’s going to be pretty exciting.

Also I will say that there is a WDW project that we have gotten a good amount of info about that could end up being scrapped but is still moving forward at this time.

Door coaster? Indy?
I honestly don’t know. I was just told that a ride announced at D23 is already facing the chopping block.

I have a couple theories but nothing to really back them up. The door coaster seems pretty far along so I highly doubt it would be cut at this point and Indy is possible but since they can’t keep dinosaur how it is and have Tropical Americas make sense so I doubt it’s that.

Again ~ everything is happening ~ until it isn't.

Is it maybe the Cars attraction that's replacing the southern part of RoA? I mean, it kind of makes sense for it to be me most likely to be cut/scrapped because of its reception so far and I seriously doubt anything Tropical Americas or Monsters Inc related is getting cut as I think they're too developed to be cut.

I thinking maybe they will cut the smaller kid friendly cars ride and keep the main attraction.

also I could see them back tracking on the Muppets coaster.

The reason I thought villains could be the thing to get cut is that it’s the only thing with no real development yet. It’s just a blue sky painting. No ground work done, no attractions announce. It’s a nice thought but we’ve seen more concrete evidence of other things happening.

I feel like the most costly and likely thing to get axed is Villains.

On the flip side they could be canceling Villains as a land with the intention to utilize it as a 5th gate to alleviate the congestion in the parks. Based on just how positive of a reaction it got. But I really doubt it.

I get what you’re saying but they can’t really start work on it until ROA is dealt with and they just got those permits squared away a month ago. I can confidently say that even though they hadn’t fully decided much when they made they announcement they do know what the rides are going to be even if we don’t (I’m personally shocked nothing has leaked out into rumors yet) I think it would have been smarter for them to hold off announcing VL until 2026 but they probably had to so the placement of cars and destruction of ROA would make more sense to people.

no way could I see them announcing removing ROA without announcing Villainsland or whatever it would be that was "beyond big thunder"

They had a construction bid online with work imminent upon approval of the bid. It sure sounds like they’re about to start work on it.

That posting stated design-build as the project delivery method. Thats a project delivery method where the architect and contractor are hired under one contract, typically as a joint venture. That is an unusual method for Disney, but they do make use of integrated project delivery (IPD) which is similar and also involves hiring the contractor at the same time as the architect and engineers at the beginning of the traditional design phases (after Blu Sky and Concept Design).

Disney also makes use of fast-track project delivery which overlaps construction with design.

Could have been one of the DL announcements? I could see them not doing 1 of those at this point more than I see them outright canceling something for WDW

If it is WDW, I'd imagine the second cars ride might go and they might just clone the Mater ride instead of something new or just not do anything.
