I have made an ADR for Teppan Edo, I was looking for a bit of a different dining experience as I find restaurants quite boring. I was hoping to dine at San Angel but after looking at the menu I changed my mind!

Anyway! Anyone dined at Teppan Edo? What do you think of it? I watched one of the chefs on a video, I noticed they used the same utensils for turning the raw chicken and tossing the veg, any chance of food poisoning! :hurl:

I LOVE Teppan Edo and I always go there at least once while I'm there. We have never had a bad meal there. We just love it. Ive never noticed about the utensils. I will be watching more carefully when I am there next in May.

Teppan Edo is really good. The desserts are super weird though. This upcoming trip will be my first not eating there. No real reason why I did not book it other than we eat a ton of hibachi around our house. I def say go if you have never been.

no, food poisoning is not a problem. hibachi grills heat to about 500 degrees, which by the way, they will tell you no short of seven times.

teppan edo is great. only disappointment most people have when they go there is there is no fried rice. most people don't know fried rice is traditional CHINESE fare, and especially get confused since a lot of other hibachi places around the country do offer it. it's perfect for a nice, light lunch that won't sit in your stomach for the rest of the day.

as blackthidot said, dessert is odd. do yourself a favor and walk down to beaches and cream or seashore sweets on the boardwalk if you want to finish with a treat (at least, that's what i do). also be advised if you have a TIW card, it's not accepted at teppan edo, but an AP discount is.

The Green Tea Pudding is DEF eatable but it is still weird. NOTHING is worse than the Chocolate Ginger Cake though. Yikes!

i feel like both here and at the san angel inn, if you're eating dessert, it's really just because you absolutely have made up your mind you want to eat dessert or you're on the dining plan and don't want to lose the credit.

Have you ever been to a Japanese Steak House? (which also does Teppan style cooking.) If so expect the same experience but a tad bit more expensive. I like this place but I'm just saying there is not much of a difference between Teppan Edo and a Japanese Steakhouse.

We are doing San Angel Inn for the first time this trip and I was looking at the dessert menu and was thinking the SAME thing...

No I haven't. This will be my 1st time at anywhere like this. Will be on the DDP so not too fussed about the price, I probably wouldn't bother otherwise!

Thanks for the replies, I am a bit disappointed with the dessert list, no way am trying the Green tea thing and I can't bear ginger, so just plain old ice cream!

I'm looking forward to the onion volcano! Will decide on the Green tea pudding once I'm there!

Another question, does your tip go to the servers or the chef? or do you tip the chef seperately? :dazzle:

That is the BIG BIG question with these types of places. You can ask the hostess or even the chef. They will tell you.

But it is all lumped in on the bill.

not sure, but i tip usual rates and let them figure it out. have to say the service there is impeccable. if you have a soft drink, you'll never reach the bottom of the glass before i new one is brought to you. guaranteed.

If you have done other teppan style dining, and you are expecting a onion volcano with fire - you will be disappointed.

At Teppan Edo, they do not use oil/alcohol and light it on fire. Our chef said "Mickey says no". All you get is a steaming volcano.

To me, it is the same as most any other teppan style place.

Of course a lot depends on the personality of your chef. We went once, and ours was about as much excitment as a bowl of white rice. Maybe she was new. She mumbled, talked to the grill, did not make eye contact, and was pretty much going through the motions. She also did something that I found to be a bit weired seeing as the place is in WDW. She made a Mickey head out of three onion rings, then proceeded to slice it peices says "Oh no, Mickey died ..... dont cry, dont cry". Like I said, maybe she was new and was still working on her "act".

I will just tip as normal then, I didn't want to make a mistake and walk out while other diners are stuffing bills in the chefs hat,:)

I love the look and feel of San Angel but there is nothing on the menu I like the look of, a fajita would have been nice!

Teppan Edo isn't much different from your typical hibachi place, but it's still a lot of fun and the food is great. I sure can't wait to eat there again. :king:

Well.. its like every other Japanese steak house we've been too, perhaps smaller rooms even. I feel like they are packing us in. Had a chef do a similar thing with minnie ears but she said "bye bye minnie!" and then sliced the poor mouse into bits..
