VIDEO - New additions for 2011 make the Osborne Lights better than ever

If the budget to do this came from eliminating the LoW then I think it is a resonable trade off. Not that it wouldn't be bad to have the LoW too but I see the thinking here.

Anyway, that is just amazing so congradulations to whoever made it happen.

Cutting something is not an excuse for adding or plussing something.

Well now I am convinced that WDW CAN actually do something similar to what TDL can do! :)

Now if they could just put this in parade form... :D

VERY awesome, that dancing canopy light effect is absolutely gorgeous! Most impressive, i'd say i'm stunned actually.

And no this is NOT a tradeoff for Lights of Winter, it's just a very well done plus to something, which is always nice. And for that it should be appreciated. LoW is a separate issue altogether, should probably just be left out of this topic (it has its own).

Not old, just vintage.
I am so excited about the upgraded canopy. To me that was always the least impressive part of the dancing. Limited colors and patterns just weren't that exciting. I can't wait to see what some of the other sequences are. I am not sure how I feel about the angels flashing along with the dancing. I'm looking forward to cramming myself shoulder to shoulder with strangers on the street to see it after Christmas.

Any reason not to mention that Brad and Annie was live (not tape) on opening night?
Mickey and Goofy was present at the same opening with small sparkler firework as goofy plug the switch.
After Brad and Annie went backstage they switch to a tape recording and call Prep and Landing.
A few new song was added to the mix.
Not part of the lights but one of the street band play half hour before they turn the lights on.

Oh I forgot to mention the Prep and Landing feature.

THAT is amazing. I think that technology has a bright future in all the parks. Pretty much unlimited magic and possibilities!

Wow. :xmas:

I understand what you are saying but I really think there is a connection. They may want TOL to drive people to the Studios and they may not want to confuse guests with the LoW. At least in the short term.

Maybe Mickey Mouse should only do meet and greets at Magic Kingdom. Wouldn't want Epcot guests thinking they were in Magic Kingdom when they saw Mickey.

You do win most creative TDO defense ever.

The Osborne Lights never had trouble drawing a crowd while the Lights of Winter were running. The cancellation of LOW is a simply a cut - one that, unfortunately, diminishes the Epcot Christmas experience.

Who's technology is it using?

I was down there and the new LED canopy is spectacular. I am a lighting geek and took a picture of the backside (facing the buildings) of one of the control boxes hanging on the lower edge of the net which had the name of the manufacturer plus the green display giving a web site and software version, sadly that pic turned out too blurry to read. If anyone is down there who could take a peek and post that or IM me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I have a closeup of it in the video at http://www.wdwmagic.com/Attractions...-make-the-Osborne-Lights-better-than-ever.htm

I understand that there's a "show" quality to a lot of what appears in the parks, and that sometimes information is fudged, or otherwise completely untrue, but I don't like being lied to when it comes to matter-of-fact information. For example, if there's a replica of a costume on display, tell me it's a replica, but don't tell me that it's the actual costume worn by the actor when it's not.

Doesn't an area audio loop (and other promo info) explain something along the lines of "these are the lights that the Osborne family..."? Well, with so many updates and changes since the first generation show, these really aren't "the Osborne family's lights" anymore. Color changing LEDs are Disney's, not the Osborne's. Additional programming and lighting arrangements are Disney's, not the Osborne's. Etc.

So, why doesn't Disney just take ownership of what has become very much their own?

Surely they could rename the display to something more Disney-esque.

The Osborne brand has run its course. Let's return to the Disney brand - they're the ones who deserve the credit anyway. :sohappy:
